Fantastic news! But we are not in a rush, so please take your time if necessary: slow and steady wins the race...

I think it may not be accurate to call 4K cockpit.
At that time, very few actual files may be 4K (4096*4096)?
but it is true that the improved cockpit can achieve the effect of 4K files no less than the GB series.

Thank you a lot (and more) to the fabulous team !

Thanks Buzzsaw, absolutely made my day.

This is one of those situations where the AI I find very acceptable but clouds and terrain really need a seeing to , obviously the AI updates came well into the games lifespan.

Looking forward to True sky, no doubt as are many , and not really long to wait too.

Look forward to this.

The new clouds in DCS appear to a game changer, let's hope the same is true for CloD.  Would be nice to see some preview screens / footage.

One question for Buzzswaw: what about our current computer performances? Will TrueSky (and after that, VR) make we need a new video card, or more RAM, or even a new processing unit? what is about to change in terms of system requirements?

Cant wait to see some footage of TrueSky in the actual game!

Majestic skies and some sort of In-house dynamic campaign engine are all this sim needs to really shine. I appreciate the TrueSky implementation; better skyscapes are fundamental for immersion. I hope they won't bring the FPS issue on a moderate rig...
Any news about a built-in dynamic campaign engine?
Thanks!

trueSKY should actually reduce the load on the player's CPU by spreading the load to the GPU... right now the clouds and weather are all handled by the CPU, in trueSKY they are handled by the GPU.

And in regards to the other new features, some of the more demanding ones, (like view distance) will be selectable by the player... so you don't have to increase the range at which objects appear if you don't want to.

Glad that it will get a re-launch (hopefully with a spiffy named patch rather than just a version number)!

My thoughts are (1) I hope the new water will be as nice as the old water (2) I hope it solves some of the low altitude artifacts... I've found that the terrain looks good at very low altitudes and at medium-to-higher altitudes. However, there is a low altitude band where some of the textures become blocky splotches (but before the low altitude textures kick in). I originally thought these textures were meant to produce a sense of three dimensionality when viewed from higher altitudes at different times of day (but I'm not so sure). I'm also not sure whether it is intentional - but it almost perfectly replicates a famous blurry photo I used to look at as a kid (see attached).

Anyway, it is a very altitude specific problem (as I said earlier - the terrain tends to look quite good from very low down or from higher up)!

Definitely. I'm sure that the last thing they want to do is follow the same path the 1C Maddox did where a release date is more important than a good quality release.

I mean, delaying the announcement for their next module may be because they want to show off better quality WIP images of aircraft such as Fw-190, SM.79, A-36, A-20C bombardier position, Swordfish, etc.; WIP images of the new maps, or aircraft carriers with carrier-based aircraft taking off and landing on aircraft carriers.

BTW, I am not a member of TFS so save for the Fw-190, all of the above is speculative.

Could the roads/well travelled routes and areas on and surrounding the base be given a texture update to make them look a bit more lived in and travelled on? Currently it all looks very clinical but the areas certainly had tracks and signs of use as per this image.

This is Wadi Gazouza, 1941.

Great news... I'm looking forward to the changes. If all works as hoped it will be quite a game changer.

Will trueSky also have any impact on the 'Cliffs of Dover' atmosphere and weather ?

And skydome banding?

I thought banding was caused by monitor limitations (gray/lighting gradation too granular).

Excellent presentation.

will it make the game heavier to run? if so, can I switch back to how it used to look like? I don't have much confidence in my rig.

Switch back to how it used to look like? This implementation we discuss here... is not yet in the game my friend.

If you can't make it good, at least make it look good:*

Addition of 4k cockpit resolution for aircraft
Addition of 4k resolution for aircraft external models
Upgrading of all terrain tiles to 4k
Improvement of Terrain Tessellation effects.
Increase of the player view distance by up to 10 times current view distances.

The most outstanding improvemet for a 'Flight Sim':

new water

Addition of the trueSKY cloud and weather system:

'trueSky' against 'I_VelocityIAS':

Dream on.

:salute: ~V~

* (Bill Gates)

My understanding is that any or all of these upgrades might be implemented before the end of September 2021, but might not happen due to potential pandemic adverse effects on coding, plus certain unnamed factors. I don't see any reason to start fretting given these uncertainties, named or otherwise.

I'll be delighted to see these improvements and let me also say i am happy to see continued "fine tuning going on regularly with posted updates. Its gratifying to see the crew working on  all the bits and pieces that make this an involving flight sim.

I know VR is quite a ways off , but may I ask what other aircraft and/or other additions are being talked about by the creative crew at this point?

If your lucky you might get your answer this weekend ?

Unless of course mays announcement is the delaying of further announcements until June.

"RAF74_Buzzsaw  26 May @ 3:34am

We are planning a large Visual Update this summer... you will see a number of major changes there."

Tells us nothing about a potential announcement, but fingers crossed things are on track.

Added VR Implementation to the original 'Notes' post as one of the elements which we are planning to include in the Visual Update.

This would be huge Buzzsaw and could honestly save CLoD if done well. No one expects perfection at first, but GB has many core issues like DMs, radio comms, and performance issues that CLoD has never had. VR and GUI are probably the two biggest problems with CLoD currently. The actual game is excellent with only minor issues like exterior sounds for example.
