6./ZG26_Loke Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 How can I avoid breaking my engine, in every single dogfight I enter? It is not the speed that cause it, nor for how long I had full throttle. It's simply the turn that cause it to get damaged, however others does not seems to have this problem, not even the ai. It is all the planes, except for the two-seaters.
=LD=Brazo Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 Can you be specific about an engine and an rpm? It may well happen on a turn but could be because it’s over revved earlier? Has it overheated?
=IRFC=Gascan Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 All planes have a maximum RPM, above which they will be damaged. It varies depending on the plane, and can happen sooner if the engine is overcooled. It is very easy to damage the engine if you don't pay attention when diving, even for a short period in the middle of combat. Another common cause of blowing the engine is opening the throttle too soon after the dive. The fixed-pitch props go faster with a higher airspeed, so they can blow more easily if you are at a higher speed than normal. Some planes really don't like negative G's, either. The SE5 (2300) and Bristol (2500) are relatively high, it is very hard to reach the damaging RPM unless you really dive hard, and even backing off throttle a little bit will prevent damage. The SPADXIII and Sopwith Dolphin max are both 2200. You can easily control the RPM in a dive by backing off the throttle. The Sopwith Camel takes damage above 1550 RPM. You can try blipping, but there's a trick if doing an extended dive: set your mixture full rich before entering the dive, and lean it out after you level off. Not sure about the Nieuport 28, I haven't flow it yet. Albatros, Fokker D.VII and D.VIIF, Pfalz D.III, Halberstadt CL.II: max RPM is 1700, but the tach only goes up to 1600. Make sure the gauge isn't stuck and you'll be fine. The Fokker Dr.1 engine takes damage above 1500 RPM. The tach is between your legs, making it awkward to check in the middle of combat, so you'll just have to practice with that one to get a feel for it. You can blip for a short bit in combat, but you'll need to figure out the right throttle when diving. 1
6./ZG26_Loke Posted April 23, 2021 Author Posted April 23, 2021 @US213_Talbot All fighters without exception. To all. It is not in the dive, and it also happen even with half throttle. Example. I cruise along the front line, level at a moderate speed. I see an enemy and bank the crate hard left or right, no dive or no sudden throttle up, engine reported damaged. Another example. In a turn dance, trying not to go full throttle all the time, but still trying to keep up with the opponent. Which is hardly impossible without full throttle. Engine gets damaged. Bare in mind, this happen very-very shortly after the fight begins, every blo**y time. I wish I could take you with me, so you could see. @gascan. Appriciate your answer.
unreasonable Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Damaging the engine by banking is very odd: I do not see how that is possible. You can take us with you, if you post a track when it happens. Try recording a few quick missions. 1
