There have been a number of cases where we see AI planes refusing to start engines, or requesting taxi permission but then never moving, when using the "cold start" option. This is airfield-dependent, so the workaround for this option is to switch back to runway start until your squadron next moves airfields. However, for any future analysis of this issue it could be useful to have a set of the failing cases (might help finding the common features of the taxi path definitions which don't work). So, can I ask if you hit this issue that you add a post to this thread, identifying the airfield you see the problem at, the takeoff direction (as this can happen for some runways but not others) and attach a mission file? I don't have a lot of time at the moment to look into this, but if that changes in the future having this data could help.

Hi @Murleen - Thank you for your time in working on this along the way and for debugging when you have the chance:

A/F = Davydovskiy - Takeoff to the west.

This airfield is notorious for taxi and runway starts.  I typically have to use airstarts whenever I want to fly a squadron based there.  The attached error report with mission files is actually a runway start, but a taxi will have the same result.  Basically, it seems that the flight wants to move further back on the runway from the access point, but end up running into each other or getting caught up on the windsock (or both).  Thank you!

The above confirmed, I had exactly the same experience at Davydovskiy. It was like dancing round the maypole!

Similiar experience at Anapa, where the AI taxi towards the threshold and run into a dugout that has been placed at the head of the runway.

I have the same problem on Daviydovka with Hurricane and other planes. AI planes immediatelly turning to the left and going back, sometimes hitting me or wrapping itself around flag pole. I don't know if the same happens in stock career as you can only fly U-2VS there and I do not own it

Hi @Murleen - Here is another one for the list:

A/F = Strassfeld - P-51 352nd - Takeoff to the west.

-In this case it appears the Taxi start is fine, but the runway start is bugged.

Thanks!

Bump for this thread

I have multiple missions with this bug. What files are needed for a propper bug report and where can I find them?

Short answer is that you might have to use runway takeoff.

We have effectively stopped work on taxiing issues.  The underlying code in the game is unreliable.  There is no algorithm guaranteed to work.  Since PWCG is software and not a human fiddling with a mission, we cannot guarantee success without a working algorithm.  So what you see is the best that we can do at the moment.  I have avoided completely disabling the feature in PWCG because taxiing does work more often than not, but we simply do not have the hours needed to fiddle with each airfield to try to figure out what is going wrong.

Wish I had a better answer, but I don't.  If somebody can provide a 100% working mission design for taxiing that is guaranteed to work on all airfields, we can revisit.

No problem Patrick. Thanks for the answer anyway

Most of the taxi path issues are in combination with a specific plane and airfield and most of the time the taxi feature did work correctly as it should.

And to be honest I won´t like to miss this feature, it adds a lot of immersion.

Again,thanks for your work!

Not a Taxi path issue but a takeoff one; at Gelendzhik-2 flying the 618th Ground Attack Regiment, my AI flight took off from the runway heading northeast, and the whole flight promptly flew into the Mountain.

usually due wrong waypoint settings: if  height, speed, radius, is set wrong, planes start circling ...

BACK TO THE OP: Well, i have been testing it extensively, Ju52 mission: it doesn't work ..... pity/

IL2 staff: PLEASE REPAIR TAXI-TAKEOFF !!
