When it’s released on iPad will it be wireless to the pc?

Hi, this is my 1st post on the forum, so I hope I don't break any rules.

I've been playing offline for about 6 months now and one of my biggest problems is

seeing the aircraft dials and buttons.

Your app is really, really helpful, especially when in the heat of battle.

One thing I would like to see is the Oil and Water temp gauges.

On all the aircraft I've tried to fly, these seem to always be stuck behind something,

or in a corner somewhere. I'm really good at burning the engines on E-7's and Spit Vb's.

If you can't do the actual gauges, maybe some kind of Red line indicator would suffice.

I'm currently using your app mirrored on an old iPad 2 via a free program: Splashtop Wired XDisplay.

It has Windows and iPad components, both available from their website, just do a search.

It's fairly easy to set-up and has several videos on YouTube. If I can make it work anyone can.

One odd issue I'm having is when I start the Dials client it starts 3 distinct instances of the program.

This happens whether the mirroring program is running or not. Annoying yes, but not a deal breaker.

Thanks for your efforts Blorg and keep up the hard work.

Welcome!

I'm fairly certain Blorg is working diligently on the Temp Gauges.. about 5 posts before this he said "Little progress report for those not on the Discord, I've managed to get access to the water temperatures finally and have unlocked some barriers that were in my way (Temps are calculated in Kelvin so that's why I struggled to find them for so long!). I just need to start modelling them." A current invite to the Discord is https://discord.gg/qWFq2Ctv

I think perhaps you have added extra screens to your client setup. Try clicking the menu button -> screen/monitor icon -> delete (red screen icon).
This will remove any extra windows and only one should load from then on.
I'm really glad you're enjoying the app, that's great to hear! And good news for you, I'm working on engine temps for the next update, but no ETA on that so far.
Let me know how you get on with deleting the extra screens. There will be a readme written and perhaps tooltips in the app once features are complete!

technically it’s already possible via apps that make ur iPad into a second screen. having a real standalone app would be way better because the “workload of the dials screen is completely handled by the iPad itself, it’s basically just reading data via wifi. with the duet workaround I mentioned before I loose around 15-20fps on the sim rig since duet is handled almost exclusively by the GPU only.

i haven’t tested the android version but I guess that’s what I does @Blorg?

this is especially interesting for people that build custom cockpits. you could do this with a Raspberry Pi and some smart watch or whatever display(s) and print almost the real thing and it would be quite responsive (input lag is what we don’t want)

i can confirm the multi dials windows bug I had up to 8. thanks for the fix! one more request: could you make some kind of auto snap for when you scaled one dial the others snap to this size.

please open a Patreon so we can send you some beers man! ?

Sorry for the late reply, Started a new job this week and was crazy.
The windows client and the android are 99% the same code so the behaviour is the same, you connect the client to the server over local wifi.
There have been a couple of people who have contacted me about the data stream my server provides to run 3d models, although I haven't seen any working examples yet, but I'm excited to see if that happens. Some fine gentlemen did get a wind generator working though.
Regarding the auto snap feature request, I will be completely redoing the layout screen because I don't like it at all so will keep the "one scale to rule them all" idea in mind, although I can't think how an icon could describe that without getting in the way or being annoying. The design process will be iterative so I will be happy to get feedback as I go.
Progress will be a bit slow for a few weeks as I get used to my new job, I have a decent amount of learning to do for it but hopefully it will calm down soon :)
"please open a Patreon so we can send you some beers man! ?" - No  ?

For a guy on the Dials Discord - Anyone who is using the Android version know how to flip the Client window to Portrait mode? The window's version you simply grab the window and resize it, no idea how the wireless Android version works..

Posted

I'll need to look in to portrait mode for the phone, the layouts won't work if I allow the phone to change from landscape. On the to do list

Awesome!  Thank you for this!  I was just watching a video on Sim-Hub for my sim racing rigs dashboard and was thinking to myself, I wonder if we have a similar app for IL-2.  And here it is.  I can't wait to try it out!  Thank you!

Blorg FYI I've noticed since the latest game update that the boost gauge is no longer working in some planes (eg. yak 1's, Mig 3, Bf 109F-4) in your app.

It still works ok in other planes (eg. P51, Yak 9)

I'm hoping there will be a simple solution to fix this issue.

Hey thanks, for the report, I've been busy lately so haven't been on top of things. I'll try and make some time in the next few days to have a look. If you haven't done already make sure you're on the latest version of the server and client :)

Great update Blorg, thank you very much! Having set the dials to individual aircraft cockpit location (as near as I can) it's great that the updates don't change anything :)

Just started flying more WW1 so it's good to see dials available. Not going to change the panel atm, quite happy to have a generic setup while I get used to them.

No dials available, he stated he "added support" for FC. It's Open Source (I think?), maybe a WWI fanatic will pick up the WWI ball!

It is open source! Any contributions welcome :) DM me ?

Also, I'm aware the mosquito manifolds aren't working, I'm on it.

Thank you very much, I did not ask for this but it is a beautiful gift which I gratefully receive!! I can now figure out why the boost dials are not working for the mosquito :)
All I can offer as a thank you are some renders of the German water temperature dial, thanks again!!! ? ? ?

First of all, many thanks for your great job.

I am using the latest version for Android.

During Bf-109 K4 flights with a DC motor, the mainfold indicator only shows up to 1.8 ata. It should exceed this value at full throttle.

I found another example of wrong mainfold indication during the Fw190D-9 flights. The indicator in your application shows overstated parameters, e.g. on full throttle plus MW50 shows us instead of 1.8 at 1.9 ata. The indications are overstated by about 0.1 ata.

Hey thanks for the report :)
I had this working (I'm sure) before the big update that broke everything so perhaps it hasn't worked since that update. I'll pop it on the to do list and hopefully I can get it sorted for the next release. I'll also look in to overstated parameters. Anything else you notice, don't hesitate to report!

edit: disregard I restarted the game and now everything is working good
android app works great too

How do you get the il2 dials to run at a high frame rate?
I have to run il2 in fullscreen mode on my main screen for vrr to work
but if I do il2 dials runs at like 10fps or something cause now its a background task
is their anyway I can get the dials app to run fast without breaking vrr?

Hi Blorg, any chance of the Android client to run on a (really) old Android 5 phone? ??

Posted (edited)

@RossMarBow Good to hear!

@jokerBR You can try this build, I checked some more checkboxes on the export options and somebody with an older Android device got it working. Unity exports support from Android 4.4
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1H9s_PwWkVS357n658HhB3lOlIBVBCbr0/view?usp=sharing
You will need to accept from unsafe sources or something. If you do not want to do this, I will be including these options in the next update :)

Hi Blorg, I tried but unfortunately it didn't work. After installing and launching it, I got a message saying "Your device does not match the hardware requirements of this application" (Abort / Continue)
Going ahead, all I got was an empty purple screen.

My current hw specs are (ASUS ZENFONE 5 A500CG - really really old, 2014!)

DISPLAY Type IPS LCD
Size 5.0 inches, 68.9 cm2 (~63.9% screen-to-body ratio)
Resolution 720 x 1280 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~294 ppi density)
Protection Corning Gorilla Glass 3
PLATFORM OS Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean), upgradable to 5.0.2 (Lollipop)
Chipset Intel Atom Z2580
CPU Dual-core 2.0 GHz
GPU PowerVR SGX544MP2

I guess the CPU (ATOM Z2580) with 2GB mem may be too weak to run the app? Anyway, thank you very much for helping me in trying it. Much appreciated. ?️

That's a shame it didn't work :( I'm at the mercy of Unity's export options so I guess they just don't support something that old. If you haven't already, I would try to update the OS to the latest you can, other than, we might need to park that device in the hangar permanently.

Unfortunately, I'm already on 5.0 Lollipop (which is the "maximum allowed" on this hw). Also, the message mentions "hardware requirements", so I'm fairly sure that it isn't software. Anyway, I'm using it for IL-2 Tactical Map, so it still has a place on my cockpit ??

If you want a new hobby you could look into upgrading it with a community OS upgrade like Lineage OS or something.
I have the very first Samsung running the latest android thanks to them.

Hi Blorg. I found one thing you can improve on your great app. In our game of P-51 B / C, when using 150 oct fuel, the boost pressure gauge changes its scale as shown in the attached picture. In the app, the scale is up to 75 inches, but it is possible to use a modification that makes the pressure 81 inches. It was rarely used, only for aircraft intended for operations related to countering V-1 flying bombs. I think that in our game such a modification will also be used very rarely, but still. As for me, the scale of the indicator may be as it is now, because every reading above 61 inches shows that you have boost on, also the indicator scaled to 75 inches as it is now in the app is more readable than the one up to 100 inches. Thanks again for what you are doing for our community. Regards.

Nice spot, I've added it to the to do list. This is similar to the bf 109 K4 issue so hopefully I can fix them together.
