Server recommendation for beginners?

Hi, I've had IL2 for some time but have no experience in multiplayer and friend just bought BOS, he's still learning the bacics. Can anyone recommend a public server where I can fly co-op with him against AI?

Thanks for the offer. It would be cool to try that in future if it still stands, but I wanted to show him around a bit, help him with settings and mapping the rest of the functions. We would probably be to much of a burden to you guys at this point?. 

 

So are there any public PvE servers at all, or just PvP?

I dont really think there are any dedicated PVE servers. I'm sure there are only PvP servers.....but I may be wrong. What time zone are you in? We are in the Uk.

These are the steps you need:

 

1.  Go here - IL2 Great Battles Easy Mission Generator - Easy Mission Generator by Vander - IL-2 Sturmovik Forum

 

2.  Install the generator and play around with it - make some co-ops where you only have 2 fighters or something.  Or make it with extra aircraft that you can always tell to go home.  If he cannot take off yet, make sure you start in the air.

 

3.  Host from your own pc - go to multiplayer, co-op and create a server.  He can then join.  You may need to set up port-forwarding etc.  Pay attention to the host settings too - so remove the time out, and make it so the mission starts quickly.

 

4.  You can also set up a dogfight mission as the generator creates them with random AI aircraft to hunt.  This might be best because if he cannot take off he can respawn as many times as he wants.

Thank you, that's very helpful. BTW, Is it possible to play co-op with mods installed, for example Weapons mod by QB.Rails?

Having him fight AI is probably not going to endear the game to him too much though. It tends to be either hillariously bad or way too good with no in between. And even at the "too good" setting it tends to do death turns till the player blacks out or tries opens the distance (my personal experience).

 

Getting him mercilessly slaughtered by experts in proper open MP probably wouldn't be too much fun either obviously. Not saying that.
