Yeah but I heard over in Steam forums that this game is crap for solo play and it is only good in multiplayer. I play only single player so I won't be getting this game.

I completely disagree with this. I would recommend doing more research beyond the steam forums if you are remotely interested in Tank Crew.

If you want a career mode then yes I guess it’s not top notch. But it has a scripted campaign for both sides and a fair few community missions\campaigns as well as a community made quick mission generator. Its enough for me

but I would love a career mode.

Plus there are at this point many user made single player missions that are very immersive.  Worth $50 for sure!!

I play mostly single player. I don't know what is being said on the Steam forums, but I would say that SP game play is better than MP game play at the moment. And MP game play has gotten some pretty good reviews.

I know there have been complaints about the amount of scripted campaigns/missions you get with the module, but you also have access to quit a lot of material from community members, as well as anything you want to add yourself using the mission editor if so inclined.

But the most underrated feature of IL2 GBS is its Quick mission builder. You can create a lot of very interesting single player engagements on the fly. It allows you to easily mix and match the type of tanks and the ammo used up to 12 vs 12 battles. I can easily create between 16 to 20 engagements in a 4 hour session, and no 2 battles are the same. I would be interested to know what tank game/sim the Steam forums would recommend for single player game play?

There is also a private effort that I haven't gotten around to using yet, but has received great reviews from this community. You can check it out using the links below:

I use SYN_Vander' Easy Mission Generator on both the flight and tank sides of the sim.  I highly recommend it.  The downside for tanks is that for now the tank version only works on the "tank map", but it still makes for good mission building at that, and it's been a godsend on the flight side for the BlitzPigs.  I generate lots of missions with it, and then go in and add my own enhancements.

The Steam forum thread where the solo play is panned is here:

"I'd bite the bullet and get Tank Crew in the next sale from the website. Then you do not have to buy the base game. I don't think anything compares really. Only one I could suggest would be Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 with some mod that people often suggest that I forget. Tank Crew is the most modern and has multi crew coop in the same tank etc. Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 is single player only iirc and pretty old.

The real problem with tank crew is it's cost and the fact that it gets lost in il2's main focus, aircraft. The advertising for tank crew is almost non existent. For example we are here in an aircraft simulator forum trying to talk tanks amongst 99.9999% flight guys. Who will even see these posts and care?
I really do hope when normandy comes their is another tank pack though. I love tank interiors and the little details of the inner workings."

Kalnaren said April 5 2021:

"Basically, there's no AI beyond what is nearly explicitly scripted in a scenario. AI tanks have nearly zero pathfinding (they'll happily ram each other and buildings), and for movement they basically just follow predetermined routes without any real dynamic reaction to the player (there's some -if it's properly set up in the scenario, but it's exceptionally limited -a tank is never going to take cover in a village, behind buildings, in a forest or anything, nor is it going to use any kind of smart, tactical behaviour).

About the only thing that dynamically reacts to the player is the tank's turret. Multiple times I've come up behind TDs at 200 yards and they just sat there doing nothing while I blasted them in the backside.

For a $100 game, it's incredibly disappointing.

Now, a really well scripted scenario is really quite good mind you, but it's going to play out exactly the same every single time, and the game comes with exactly two single scenarios that have actually had any amount of thought put into them (not counting the campaigns).

The campaigns really aren't campaigns, just a collection of single scenarios. There's no persistence between them. You're not even in the same unit for some of them. I played through them and they were Ok, but I honestly have no desire to play through them again.

If trolling through the forums for good user made scenarios (and to be honest, there are quite a few) is good enough for you to justify the price tag, hey go for it.
But if you're looking for something where you can load up a quick battle and have a fun, dynamic tank experience, you're not getting it."

Okay so I don't want to break any forum rules here, but I honestly don't know if this is allowed. The first post is actually recommending Tank Crew, and I would agree with the recommendation, but I don't agree with his proposed problem though. As you can see by hanging around this forum, Tank Crew is the center of attention here, is well supported by the DEV team, and has no visibility issues.

The second post has missed the mark completely, because being able to create a quick battle in the Quick mission builder is exactly what I recommend you do for single player game play, and it is exactly what you will be getting with the QMB. It sounds like Kalnaren has played around in the scripted missions/campaigns for the most part. I am not really big on scripted game play of any sort, so while I played a couple of the missions, I knew it was never going to be for me. There is a lot of community content available if that is your thing, but I recommend the QMB as the better option for single player games.

It takes a little bit of trial and error to find what will work best for you, but what the Quick Mission Builder allows you to do is go from super easy to extremely hard game play. There are 3 modes in the QMB.

A "Target Practice" mode where you decide what you want to spawn into the session with you as moving targets. Aside from the usual Tanks/anti-tank batteries, and trucks, you can also have boats and trains spawn in if you are near water, or a railway. You can also have it so that nothing else spawns in with you if you want to avoid the distraction of being shoot at while you take pictures, or make a video of your favorite tank.

The second mode is called "Tank Duel" where you select your tank, and your AI opponents tank including the ammo load-outs. This is a 1 vs 1 mode, and a great place to start getting use to all the different tanks in the game.

The third mode is called "Tank Skirmish" where you select up to 3 platoons of 4 tanks on each side. This is where the fun starts. Basically you mix and match the type, number, and load out to generate different engagement scenarios with varying difficulty levels. You can put yourself alone in a very strong tank against 12 weaker opponents, or in a weaker tank and anything in between. I assure you that I can build a scenario where Kalnaren will be very luck to survive.

This is also the mode that I recommend you learn how to use the command system. You start by making the engagement scenario very easy while your getting use to giving commands, and then increase the difficulty when you feel ready for more of a challenge.

While the AI in this game could always use improvement, the QMB can generate some really interesting engagements if you are willing to work at it with a bit of trial and error. What I did to add more variation, was I bought some of the other modules on sale so that I could use the different maps with the QMB. The map that comes with Tank Crew is more than enough to get started though.

If you are into WWII armor game play, then Tank Crew is a no brainer when it is on sale.

I hope this helps broaden your perspective, and good luck with your decision.

Good post Lachen. But I have to agree with the first posts point about a fair few of the tank crew potential exposure getting caught up in the il2 aircraft games shadow. Case in point is that the forum you are looking at their is for the base game which is about aircraft. There is no steam tank crew forum or sub forum. Tank Crew posts just get caught up in the noise of the rest of the aircraft posts.

Good point, but Steam is not the focal point of either IL2, or Tank Crew. But I do see your point more clearly now, and anyone over on Steam might not even bother to look outside of that platform unless they think to ask like I believe @Azumatokyodan did.

Well. Tank Crew is 40% off in the spring sale now. Not as good a saving as the flash sale but still good value.
