Unless your pursuer is in a P-38, they'll need to have their convergence set pretty high to out-snipe your gunner. If you can keep them at a distance greater than, say, 400 yards, for a decent amount of time, your AI gunner will technically have the advantage over wing-mounted gun accuracy at those ranges. Just a few 13mm strikes to a pursuer's nose is likely to cause some engine damage. Or at least scare them a hell of a lot more than having 7mm coming at them.
