Deacon352nd Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 (edited) I’ve made a 30 mission “dogfight” campaign for my group which we are “flying” now. It spans a time period from about a month before to about two weeks after D-Day. Many missions have tanks and planes that can be human “piloted”. I just wanted to announce it since we are testing it now and may release it afterwards if there is enough interest. I’ve used the Rheinland map since it has geography similar to Normandy in the northern portion. I even made another custom airfield way north to be used as if it was England. I intend to keep adding missions to encompass the events up through the Falaise pocket. Edited March 17, 2021 by Deacon352nd 8 3
Madov Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 Plenty of interest in that idea here, thank you for sharing.
Deacon352nd Posted May 17, 2021 Author Posted May 17, 2021 The 352ndVFG is flying these missions now in our regular sessions. These are made for a virtual group and they consist of over 30 missions extending from, if I remember correctly, April 1944 to July 1944 and they have plane and tank positions for players. Naturally the beginning missions are for planes only, mainly the 47, A20 and 51. There are only two missions that have TANK ONLY positions and these have the free T34 for use in addition to the Sherman in case a member of your group doesn’t have Tank Crew. These missions are fairly historical and deal mainly with American forces extending from Omaha and Utah beaches. Once we fly them all, I can zip them up and give them to whoever wants them. I’ve used the Rheinland map as the terrain since the northern extent can simulate the Channel and I’ve made an airfield for spawning along with an air spawn very very near to it in case you can’t take off from the rough area used. Right now our group is very experienced in taking off and landing on that airfield with very few “accidents”.
Deacon352nd Posted June 2, 2021 Author Posted June 2, 2021 With the newest update many new vehicles have been added that were available for the Normandy invasion. Since there are more than 30 missions in my D Day campaign, I will not, I repeat, will not be updating these missions to include these vehicles. The campaign is a series of individual missions as opposed to an ongoing mission to mission campaign. While they are in sequential order and are pretty historical in nature, since they are all dogfight missions, you can fly them in any order. I will be releasing this very soon and anyone can change these missions in any way they choose without needing my permission. 1 1 1
DD_Friar Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 Salute @Deacon352nd, I would be very interested in your missions for use over at the DangerDogz. I would also like to explore the options of adding more tank scenarios to them to combine both ground and air
Deacon352nd Posted June 14, 2021 Author Posted June 14, 2021 I’ll release it this week. Hopefully the zip will fit or I’ll need to release it in a few parts. Remember the missions are all dogfight with many tank and plane. 1
Deacon352nd Posted June 14, 2021 Author Posted June 14, 2021 OK I'm getting ready to release this campaign. Here are some things you'll need to know about the missions: I've used the Rheinland map for all the missions. It simulates the southern shore of England and the Channel along with the Normandy coast. As such, I had to make an airfield in "England". In doing so I tried to find the most level spot but it is rough and to take off from the three spawning spots (one for each of my group's fighter squadrons) you'll need to take it on the run and hold the stick back somewhat so that your propeller doesn't nose dive into the ground. After a couple of trials everyone in my group was an expert at taking off from this site. In case there is a problem during a mission I also added to the airfield a "pussy" spawn point for those who may have crashed during takeoff so that your group can all launch close together. Using this "pussy" spawn point will have you air spawn. Additionally most missions have a "secondary" spawn point far away from the base and close to the shore of the enemy which would be used in the case you were shot down or crashed during the mission. You will also air spawn at this spawn point. In this way you wouldn't need to fly all the way from "England" again. There are also jpegs and mp3 files associated with some of the missions. All these will be part of the zip files I'll load up. There are only plane, plane and tank and two only tank missions. When there are tanks included, you have your choice of a Sherman or the free Russian tank included in the sim. The planes I've used are the A20, P51 and P47D28 and P47D22. Each mission will specify which plane is to be used. READ THE BRIEF FOR EACH MISSION AS THEY WILL BE DETAILED ENOUGH TO GIVE YOU THE LOADOUT AND HEADING NECESSARY FOR THE MISSION. BUT YOU CAN CHANGE ANY OF YOUR LOADOUT AT THE SPAWNING SCREEN. Also once you have chosen your loadout and returned to the map screen before you hit the "START", the map itself will be much more detailed showing you the location and names of the towns and cities. I suggest that you all choose your loadout and wait until everyone is ready before ANYONE hit the "START" button so that any timing in any mission will be closer to what it should be as opposed to someone starting something in the mission before your squadron gets into a position to help or be effective. Some missions are easy while other are almost impossible. I said almost. My group has flown almost all of these except for the last few which we are flying now. We have a lot of ex-military guys as members and we've had to use a lot of military strategy to be successful. In any case I will be uploading these files in a series of "D-Day Campaign" zip files depending upon how many files I can put into each zip due to the size limitation here. ALL FILES ONCE UNZIPPED WILL NEED TO BE PUT INTO A D-DAY CAMPAIGN FOLDER. This folder containing all the unzipped files will go into your game thusly: root folder/data/Multiplayer/Dogfight/ Anyone can modify any of these missions in any way you choose and all of them have been re-saved and updated to the newest version of the sim. I will NOT be updating or modifying or adding to these after the release so please don't ask. Once you've downloaded them, they are yours. Do what you want with them. I have used only two mods in making them and those are the Rheinland texture and clouds mod. I don't know if these will start if you don't use those but those two mods don't affect anything except conditions. I didn't want to have anything in the missions that would influence or affect your fighting ability by making something more difficult or easier. Also while each mission is numbered and should be flown in succession, there are some numbers missing. This resulted due to missions not updating properly during the last three updates to the sim. Since there are more than 30 missions in the campaign, I didn't feel that those not included would affect anything. I can't think of anything else that you need to know and will be releasing the few zip files shortly, hopefully today. 2

These missions should work on "NoMod" servers but the clouds mod may affect the way the sky is rendered in game. This can easily be fixed by opening the mission in the editor and changing the 'Atmosphere Conditions' in the mission's "Properties" box to suit. I am REALLY looking forward to these. Thanks for all your hard work and for sharing this with everyone.
Deacon352nd Posted June 14, 2021 Author Posted June 14, 2021 (edited) Here are the three zips that need to be downloaded, unzipped and put into a folder labeled D-Day Campaign which should be placed in the data/Multiplayer/Dogfight folder. Additionally, there is a mp3 file which is too large to be attached to this post. It is a song called "Peggy the Pinup Girl" and once downloaded from the link I will give, should also be converted to an mp3 file and placed in the D-Day Campaign folder as it will be used in mission 1B, if I remember correctly. Here is the link to that song; Peggy, The Pin-up Girl (Remastered 2001) - YouTube D-Day Campaign.rar Here is the second zip file: D-Day Campaign 1A.rar Here is the last zip file D-Day Campaign 1B.rar Edited June 14, 2021 by Deacon352nd 2

GBHGaryBucey Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 I seem to have trouble playing any of these. I host a game but they do not load and go back to the multiplayer menu. Anyone else with this problem?
