Reverb G2 has Shipped, Recommended Install Order?

Recommended Posts

I just received my “shipped” notification and Reverb G2 will be here midweek. I wanted to hear your recommendations on the preferred installation order of SteamVR, WMR, IL-2, etc.

Also, I do not have, and do not expect to have, any VR applications outside of Steam, so I was wondering if one can only install WMR for SteamVR, and can get away without installing the main WMR.

I do have, but not yet installed the IL-2, so I’m wondering if I should also install it the last, once HMD is installed. Disclaimer, this is my first foray into VR, and the G2 is the first HMD, so like the sig says, I’m a complete newb in this, so any and all advice are appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I would go ahead and install IL-2.

Yes you will need the main WMR install.

You also want the WMR for Steam VR, and Steam VR. You get both of these from the Steam Library.  I recommend the Beta on both of these.

Once everything is installed and the Reverb is setup in WMR.

You will use the WMR for Steam VR application to launch Steam, Steam VR, and WMR

When you plug in your headset, the main WMR window will launch. I suggest closing that down each time you turn on headset, and then launch WMR for Steam VR as previously described.

Once I exit the game, I close down Steam VR, and then I close WMR for Steam VR.

I do it this way each time I want to play the game.

You can do some reading whilst you are waiting for the device to get there:

Thanks @dburne!

I’ll start reading them now. This was exactly the kind of insight I was looking for.

You are most welcome, exciting times ahead have fun!

Do not get discouraged early on, it does have a bit of a learning curve but once you get it there it is great.

Aaaaaaargh.

fedex notification says they’re to be delivered by end of day today. The last update is that they’ve left Conley, GA this morning before sunrise, somehow I don’t believe they’re going to make it to DC suburbs the same day. ?

I really hope they prove me wrong. On the other hand, I’ve rarely had a good delivery experience with fedex. Initially they were slated to be delivered last night, then status changed to tonight. I guess I’d better cancel that “time off request” for tomorrow.

Kids being in virtual school, and wife working from home I had hoped a weekday delivery would limit the day time interruptions. Oh well, such a first world problem.
