Custom Cockpit Photos

For a moment was hoping that once squadron letters are typed in the serial numbers would be auto generated.

Quite interesting to see which fonts and colors would we choose from.

Also, cockpit custom_photo section seems to be abandoned and does not allow tpo save multiple ones as we do with our custom skins.

I don't know what this means. Anyone? We've given you the ability to add your own custom picture to the cockpit, we've provided a few to act as stand ins until you make your own. If you don't like them you can turn them off. Nothing was abandoned.

I meant to have option as we would have when choosing custom skins, might have expressed  myself not precisely.

By default there is 1 cockpit photo per plane. What that photo is depends on the nationality of the plane. If you want you can take the German plane photo and add it to a US plane etc. What we can do is make our own custom photos and add those to each plane, so you can have a different photo for each plane if you want. But you can only have 1 active custom photo per plane at a time, so  when in the game and you go to select photo you have a choice between photo and no photo rather than a series of photos. You can have many photos in each planes programme folder but only one can be active at a time, if you want to change that active photo you must do it in the programme folder for the plane and you can't  do that in the game itself when playing.

I think he got mislead by the UI. Instead of it being an on/off toggle it leads to a whole section that looks like it could contain multiple custom photos.

Does not matter how many, being able to select  just like a custom skin is more important.

Matter of taste I guess? My cockpit photo is of my girlfrend, so it is the same photo in all aircraft, so I'm good with just the one spot, haven't heard anyone else so far that has needed more. Would be nice to have the option, but not super high priority I figure.

He's talking about how you can only have one per folder, while it is displayed in game as a drop-down list. If you want to have say, engine notes for a plane instead of your girlfriend, you'll have to overwrite the GF entirely. You can't stuff both pictures in the P51 folder and choose which one to use from the drop-down in game.

I use it for copies of paintings which poke fun at the aircraft I'm flying in.

I strongly dispute any emphasis on "important" when it comes to a nice little trinket like a cockpit photo, in the overall scheme of things anyway.

If you need plane notes just type em out in word and print them out on half sheets. Buy a knee board and slide em in. Real life is really lifelike.

I love how the .50 crowd finds a way to interject this into EVERY SINGLE thread. You're aware, I'm aware, Dev's are aware, everyone is aware. When the DEV's can find time for a deep dive into the .50's they will. And not a moment sooner BTW. Bellyaching about it incessantly isn't going to change where they can fit it in to their schedule and it's de-motivating/counter productive to beat this dead horse into hamburger. I wouldn't want o see upcoming decals reminiscent to custom_photo type of feature.

Trust me we all want this game to be as good as it should be.

It would be great if we could select a standard skin and unit numbering for everyone to see, but load a custom skin on top for squad members (or anyone else with that custom skin) to see.

This will be a very welcome feature.

Interesting, didn't know this was possible. The only plane I'd like to move the default photo placement, is the Fw-190 (A-8 and D); where the photo is on the left side of the cockpit and can barely be seen at normal viewing angles. The P-47's is also a little awkwardly placed, but at least it's visible.

You can have picture of a ground target which is very usefull for ground attack.

This is a matter I've analyzed quite seriously. I'm sure the following will sound absurd to many people, but whatever.

 

I've concluded there are a variety of factors at play. First of all, rapid urbanization made cities into miniature melting pots, genetically speaking. Previously (as in, for the last few thousand years), people were isolated in tiny villages and small towns. This led to many thousands of isolated gene groups which ultimately created greater diversity. Without physical isolation, everyone will begin to look alike. Might take thousands of years of easy travel/movement combined with dense urban living, but it's statistically inevitable.

 

Taking me for an example: I lived in 3 major cities by the age of 20, thousands of miles apart. 200+ years ago, this would be inconceivable. Most people were born and died in a radius of a few dozen miles at most.

 

However, that said, I don't think looks have changed much yet. What's much more likely the cause for your nostalgia, is the fact that standards of beauty have changed so that women who look, for lack of a better term, 'classically beautiful' are no longer being selected by influential people (chiefly in the entertainment industry, naturally). Therefore, the perception is that they no longer exist; when in fact they do, but they go unnoticed because they're no longer elevated to 'star status'.

 

There's also a third explanation. The most cynical of them all. A Liz Taylor lookalike, for example, might still exist in a small town in Kansas (where her parents were from)... but with processed foods and unhealthy modern lifestyles, she might also weigh 250 and no longer look like Liz Taylor. The obesity epidemic surely cuts down on the number of star-worthy people who might come from small towns. 

 

And so concludes today's episode of 'more than anyone wanted to hear on this off-topic subject.'

I really like the new lettering, that will make the default skins much more appropriate. It will be cool to incorporate that into some offline campaigns and missions, don't you think?

back on topic:  that is a game changer for me and PWCG.  I can make a generic squadron skin and assign a lettering making each plane unique, plus appropriate rank markings for German units.  All the while I can keep and assign unique skins for variety.  Looking forward to it.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. 1 custom skin with squadron markings and then just assign different letters.

 

Now we need to discuss nose art. What about pictures of good looking babes with no clothes on? Vargas girls and such.... I’ll start working on a gimp mock-up now.
