Tacview 1.8.4 is now available on tacview.net and Steam!

Download: https://tacview.net/download

  • Release Date: Thu, 20 Aug 2020
  • Operating System: Windows® 32-bit / 64-bit
  • File Size: 408.8 MB

This release improves the support of all your favorite flight sims and even add support for a brand new one everybody is talking about ;)

New maps have been integrated, the database has been expended and tweaked to better display your favorite aircraft, and thanks to your feedback, many tweaks and fixes have been made to improve everyday debriefings.

BuzyBee and I are also experimenting with new addons such as the fuel consumption and turn rate calculators. They are still experimental, and may not work for all aircraft yet, but I am sure you will find them quite useful for your navigation and dogfight analysis. They can be enabled via the “Add-ons” menu.

Meanwhile, I am now putting more and more time on the development of Tacview 2.0. This new generation will be a huge step up, so it could last for the upcoming 10 to 20 years.

Unlike Tacview 1.x, Tacview 2.0 is very open from the beginning, it is like a debriefing Lego bag, which anyone, with little technical knowledge, can easily create addons of any kind to expend and create new data and tools at will. And it runs on all platforms including tablets.

Take care and have pleasant flights ;)
Vyrtuoz & BuzyBee

I have a problem with the tactview.

I just installed tactview 1.84. I have change Il2´s startup.cfg to show "tactviewrecord=1"

When I tried to open il2 with the tactview open it says that another instance of il2 is already open. If I try to do it the other way; first the il2, then when trying to open tactview (still on the main screen of il2) it opens a message that says that in order to avoid cheating tactview can´t be open.

I surely missing something very obvious but can´t guess what.

Actually you are not. To prevent cheating, you can only review tracks when the game is not running.

Ahh, ok. I probably remembered wrongly that you had to keep tactview open when recording a track.

Thanks ?

Hey @Vyrtuozfirst of all, thanks a lot for this amazing app.

However, it is crashing for me after some usage in my laptop (desktop is fine) with integrated intel graphics. I've read somewhere that it might be caused by outdated drivers but I updated them and removed the OEM ones and installed the ones directly from Intel and still the same.

Any clue?

Hi,

Indeed the crash dump indicates the crash is occurring in the Intel graphics driver (your version 27.20.100.8681). There seems to be a more recent version available here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/Graphics-Drivers , can you please try again to update to the latest version?

Thanks for the reply! I have tried with 9030 drivers and still the same error. I guess that Intel graphics is just trash.

Hey @Vyrtuoz and @BuzyBee love the product. Any chance we can get the Hurricane icon added in the next version?

Hi busdriver, I can definitely add it to the database so at least it shows up as an aircraft object. Can you share that .trk or .acmi file with me?

Hi Gents,

I used TacView already in DCS, but just bought BoS and Bodenplatte. TacView installed, IL-2 acmi track gets recorded and shows up in track list no problem, even terrain applied.

Question: what should I do so that TacView reply shows my callsign, in other words to find myself among the many planes in the replay? There are just a lot of identical planes listed in the Telemetry selection drop-down menu. I guess I did not register any sqad tag or something like this, so which callsign should TacView display anyways, or where should I start investigating or correcting?

Thanks a lot!

EDIT: I found it. You need to choose from the menu Add-ons (Gear icon) / Enable Add-ons / IL-2 name corrector.

@BuzyBee or anybody with the answer, how do I get the sky to appear blue rather than black? I've tried selecting a different Time Offset.

Hi busdriver, if it is night in the place and time that your flight is taking place, the sky will be black. Changing the UTC Time Offset only changes the time displayed in the top left corner but it does not change the sun's position.

Thanks, but this is happening with all my daylight missions in all careers. Bright sunny days in game render as night (black sky) in TacView.

Scratching my head on this. Let me test some more.

It seems that IL-2 is exporting local time and not UTC time. So tacview thinks it is 1436 UTC time, which seems to be 1736 Moscow time, at which time, in December, the sun has set.

You can open the acmi file in a text editor and change the time from local time to UTC time. Moscow seems to be UTC + 3, so change:

0,ReferenceTime=1941-12-06T14:52:56Z

to:

0,ReferenceTime=1941-12-06T11:52:56Z

Then open the .acmi file in Tacview and select Time Zone Offset UTC+3

Hello

I'm looking for someone who could tell me how to configure TacView server to store acmi files AFTER the mission on a disk. I've heard Blue Flag server (DCS) is configured this way.

At moment we are trying to run Il2 Sturmovik server with TV but we heard that some people use TV net code to cheat as a "radar app". That is why we don't want to give telemetry during flight.

Is it possible to block telemetry outside the server completely but record and upload the acmi file after mission end?

This is such a great tool, but unfortunately the IL-2 multi-player servers I frequent don't allow the use of Tacview. Is there anyway to make a Tacview recording of an IL-2 Track file?

Hi,

IL-2 does not allow this, I believe they have specifically made this decision because they are concerned about cheating.

That's too bad. I'm not sure how much can be gained in the way of cheating from looking at a past recording, but then, I'm not in the know when it comes to cheating.

Thanks for the reply BusyBee.

Tacview 1.8.6 is now available on tacview.net and Steam!

Download: https://tacview.net/download

  • Release Date: Fri, 2 Apr 2021
  • Operating System: Windows® 32-bit / 64-bit
  • File Size: 524.2 MB

As the pace of development on Tacview 2.0 increases, Tacview 1.8 is switching more and more to maintenance mode.

However, Tacview 1.8 is still a great test bed for experimenting with simplified versions of new features. As such, this update still brings cool new tools along the usual quality of life improvement and bug fixes.

For example, whenever it is supported by your flight simulator and your aircraft, you can now display the flight controls position as well as the pilot sight. Together with the optional display of aircraft course, you have now all the tools to analyze the exact behavior of the pilot and pinpoint habits to improve stick and rudder skills.

As usual, the Lua SDK has been considerably extended. For example, it is now possible to create real dialog boxes to directly interact with the user. If you are interested into creating Lua addons, feel free to share your work or ask for help on our discord channel!

BuzyBee and I would like to thank again everyone for your support and feedback!

I will now return to the Batcave to resume my work on Tacview 2 ;)
Vyrtuoz

I asked TacView Support about IL-2, their answer just came in, they are saying:

"When Tacview is used with IL-2, IL-2 is recording the flight, so it is not possible for us to implement a playback delay. We [from TacView] have reached out to IL-2 about this but they are comfortable with the status quo.

When Tacview is used with DCS, Tacview is recording the flight, which gives us much more control over the whole setup."

I dunno how many users should support this request here somehow to make it happen. Obviously nobody wants to see cheaters, and with some willingness from IL-2 and cooperation with TacView, it could be avoided (just as it was done with DCS), and TacView could be used in IL-2 MP for what it already is in SP, a very useful afer action analyzis and learning tool.

Any positive toughts from IL-2 side?

Thanks! I love the way you have handled the colours. I am currently thinking about additional ways to handle the  objects spawning off-map. I think I might have to to consider the boundaries of each map and make changes to any objects that spawn outside of the boundaries. It's going to be a pain.

Have a bug, Though might be user error. When recording with IL2 Flying Circus planes all planes are colored green, no matter if the red/blue aircraft button is on or off. Though when I change to WW2 planes I have planes that are red and blue. Everything else functions correctly. Any help would be great.

Can you share your ACMI file where all the planes are green? Maybe it is an issue with the coalitions. (Green=neutral?)

Hi all,

I wrote 2 more Tacview add-ons for IL-2, IL-2 Off-Map Objects Corrector and IL-2 Color Assigner, in addition to the one I have already written, IL-2 Name Corrector.

All 3 add-ons are available natively in Tacview starting with the current beta version, Tacview 1.8.7 beta 7:

https://tacview.net/download/beta/

Go to Add-ons -> Enable/Disable Add-ons and select the one(s) you are interested in. Then the add-on will appear under the Add-ons menu. From there, you can indicate if you want the add-on to function automatically whenever an IL-2 flight is loaded, or if you prefer to run the add-on manually when needed.

IL-2 Name Corrector
In IL-2 the pilot name is appended to the aircraft name instead of being treated as its own piece of information.
This add-on parses out the pilot name so Tacview can use it.

IL-2 Off-Map Objects Corrector
In IL-2 sometimes objects spawn off the map before transporting to their proper position.
This add-on instructs Tacview to not display objects when they are found off-map.

IL-2 Color Assigner
When using Tacview's merge function on ACMI files where different users have chosen different colors, planes may change color mid-flight.
Also, in some cases all planes may be green.
This add-on will assign the color BLUE to any object with Coalition = Allies or Entente and RED to any object with Coalition = Axis or Central Powers.
As with all my add-ons, feel free to modify the script.

Let me know if you find any bugs - please include an ACMI file with any bug report.

Happy flying,

BuzyBee

Hi.

Yesterday I recorded some action during organized event, I upload the tracks you can see and analyze what is wrong and maybe came up with solution.

What I noticed so far:

Direction of plane motion is wrong - models fly sideways or backwards

Line of fire and plane fuselage position is not aligned properly,

Suggestion:

The AAA bursts in midair are showing as big yellow spheres , IMO I would be better for scene clarity if they had different color (black) and disappear much faster. Maybe they could have similar to fireworks burst animation.

New EA FC Volume II planes do not have models yet (this is understood but for ww1 they should have default ww1 era plane model not the jet IMO )

I am having the same issue with planes flying in odd directions. They are not pointing the direction they are travelling and I don't know why. I understand that the new FC2 planes don't have models yet, and although it looks a bit funny, I can live with that. I'm sure the models will be made soon enough. I would really like to make sure that all the planes are facing the correct direction, though. Here is a screenshot I took of some fighting yesterday from the same event as Husar. Any tips on how to fix this? Currently running version 1.8.6 without any beta versions.
