  1. Tacview 1.8.3 is now available on tacview.net and Steam! Download: https://tacview.net/download Release Date: Fri, 1 May 2020 Operating System: Windows® 32-bit / 64-bit File Size: 390.6 MB I am always looking for ways to improve Tacview’s frame rate to make it as smooth as possible, and to compensate for new features added over time, especially for lower-end systems. During my investigations, I have found a few bottlenecks, big and small. In this version I have already implemented a few optimizations which should improve the performance on lower end systems and make the UI and 3D a bit more responsive. In the following updates, I will work on a bigger optimization which should have considerable impact on missions with a lot of objects. Always an ongoing project, with the help of my partner BuzyBee, plenty of 3D objects and declarations have been added the to the database so your favorite planes and vehicles are properly displayed. This certainly makes debriefings more comfortable and intuitive! In addition to new options to customize your experience, there have been several tweaks to make the satellite view more comfortable and weapons impact clearer. Meanwhile, Tacview 2.0 is still growing up slowly, but surely. All the tools required for its multi-platform development are complete (some are even used to speed-up Tacview 1.x development). The next step (starting soon), will be the development of the core engine, which will include completely rewritten terrain, 3D engine (using Vulkan for portability and performances), as well as a greatly improved telemetry engine, feature-wise. I am as impatient as you are about it, it is a long-term project, slow but steady! Take care and fly safe! Vyrtuoz & BuzyBee FEATURES & CHANGES ADDED Static Object Injector addon to easily add static objects in Tacview world ADDED Track Injector addon to create flights from waypoints ADDED numerous objects and 3D models to the database ADDED IL-2 Arras elevation map ADDED support for DCS World submarines ADDED new keyboard shortcuts to inject bookmarks in DCS World ADDED longitudinal and lateral accelerations (g-force) ADDED support for routes and waypoints for GPX files ADDED support for DRX Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS) static objects ADDED support for WebP for custom terrain textures ADDED support for non spherical engagement ranges ADDED support for inactive SAM/AAA sites (radar on/off) ADDED support for simpler event-log sheets (timeout+callsign+event) ADDED an option to auto hide latitude/longitude coordinates whenever bullseye coordinates are present ADDED support for Shift + PgUp / PgDown to move quickly +/- 10 seconds in time ADDED support for more exotic characters in latitude & longitude coordinates ADDED /Fullscreen command line option to start Tacview in fullscreen mode IMPROVED impact effects are now more transparent so we can still see concerned objects IMPROVED direction vector length to be proportional to the corresponding object speed IMPROVED fast forward speeds to better match other debriefing tools (x3/x5/x10/x20) IMPROVED support for csv files such as granular data from Flightradar24 IMPROVED support of wrongly formatted date/time in GPX files IMPROVED anti-aircraft engagement range display in satellite/orthogonal view IMPROVED support of static objects from KML files IMPROVED handling of carriage return characters when importing telemetry files IMPROVED Database Builder to automatically refresh Tacview database after each save IMPROVED media windows now display only file names without path in their title FIXES FIXED charts auto-scale was not always correct FIXED the event-log importer to work regardless of the user regional settings in Windows FIXED rare crash when manually removing objects from the world FIXED crash in Database Builder add-on caused by duplicate entries FIXED could not add waypoints via the add/edit dialog box FIXED pilots not properly exported for DCS World Harrier & M2000

  7. I am not sure about the sampling rate of IL-2. If you open an ACMI file generated by IL-2 in a text editor and check the frame numbers (prefixed by #) you should be able to ascertain its sample rate (assuming it is the same for all of its objects). You are correct, Tacview calculate the speed like in your formula. I believe that IL-2 only export latitude-longitude coordinates in its acmi files. Because its world is flat and not spherical, it means the speed calculated in such way will be inaccurate depending on the distortion of IL-2 maps compared to the real world assumed by Tacview. We could get better results if IL-2 would export “native” x,y,z coordinates, but I do not think it is doing that yet. The AOA is roughly the angle between the aircraft orientation and the current velocity vector (on the longitudinal axis). Tacview calculate telemetry with its own dt, which is independent from the sampling rate/export rate, and dependent on the variable measured. I believe the speed is calculated on over 1 sec. Because, the shorter the period, the more jitter you will get, which will give unusable results. AOA is calculated over a period of 1 second too. Can you elaborate more about your suggestion, I am not sure to understand were this should take place? Do you have an example?
  8. IL-2 exports the callsigns in the object name instead of in the pilot name. I am going to see if we can write a little addon for Tacview which to move it to the pilot name automatically for you. We are adding new models on regular basis, but it takes (a lot of) time to make them clean and fast for display in Tacview. Is there any *specific* model you are particularly missing?
  9. This is a brilliant idea Hanu! The coordinates of Rheinland texture map has been adjusted in the Tacview 1.8.1 final build, which will be released this week. I will try to make all IL-2 maps transparent like yours too, because it looks so nice
  10. Tacview 1.8.0 is now available to everyone! Download: http://tacview.net/download Release Date: Fri, 6 Sep 2019 Operating System: Windows® 32-bit / 64-bit File Size: 293.0 MB This year, I worked closely with military partners to improve Tacview for real-life playback and debriefing. Most of these improvements are also relevant to flight simulators and are now available to everyone in this brand-new release. This includes better support for small and big screens, more UI modularity, the possibility to display local time (at last ;)), as well as a new tool to measure distance between the selected object and any other object or even a point on the ground. I have also been working hard to improve performance, notably the loading speed of custom textures. Thanks to the help of my partner BuzyBee, numerous airports and maps are now included in Tacview distribution, Tacview database has been greatly extended, and many 3D models have been integrated. This simplifies the installation process by reducing the need to download and manually install add-ons and asset packs for debriefings. Right now, I am focusing more on Tacview 2.0. So, if you feed a slow down in Tacview 1.x dev, this means that Tacview 2.0 is progressing faster  I am currently working on the core engine which is starting to run on all platforms from cell phones to computers. This first step takes some time, but it is also important, because this will establish a clean base on top of which the rest will be built. The next step will be to port most of Tacview components to the new engine: internal tools, telemetry recorder, installer. Then I will start rewriting Tacview main application. Enjoy! 12. Thank you for the feedback Plank! I am happy to see how you are enjoying Tacview. I thought about your question concerning the trails. I may add an option to keep the trails after death in Tacview 2.0. As for the explosions, they are injected by IL-2 in the telemetry data. We should be able to create a Lua addon for Tacview, you will be able to use to remove them or reduce their occurrence.
  13. Hi FlyingNutcase I have just tested with IL-2 v3.012c and it has generated a proper *.acmi file in a sub folder of my IL-2 install. By default, I needed to press LCtrl+R to trigger data recording. At that point I can see the little red camera icon in the top right corner of the screen. As Plank suggested, if you have redefined the default control used to trigger trk files recording, you will have to press your own key combination. Side note: The “ACMI Files Recording Folder” does not have any effect on IL-2 series. IL-2 records all the acmi files in its own folder “\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Tracks\”
  14. Hi everyone, TL;DR: Due to data limitations, the AOA readings in Tacview, when using IL-2, may indeed be inaccurate. I would like to point out several facts about the AOA displayed in Tacview: IL-2 does not directly export any AOA (cockpit reading or real AOA) The data recorded by IL-2 contains only latitude, longitude and altitude. They come from IL-2 “flat world” coordinates. Which means they are distorted in Tacview spherical world; inevitably leading to discrepancies when values like speed, AOA and so on are calculated by Tacview. In addition, as previous outlined by some of you, there is an incidence angle error to consider. In the current state of IL-2 data export capability, Tacview is very efficient to analyze tactics and piloting. However, if you want to check the accuracy of IL-2, it should be done in-game only to ensure there is no possible conversion error in the equation.
  15. Thank you very much for the follow-up. That said, this is strange because you do not need to have Tacview installed to record IL-2 flights… Maybe that was a bug in IL-2 which has been quickly fixed. Anyway, I am glad that everything is working fine for you now.
