Why is someone selling a 3090 for $660? Or am I reading that incorrectly?

I see. It depends I guess - @dburne here has a 3090 and VR, and he seems quite happy with it. My understanding is that it's about 20% better than the 3080 for almost twice the cost, so it comes down to personal finances at that point. VR, especially at the res of the HP headsets, is especially tough to dial in well, so every extra bit of horsepower will be noticable.

I've got a 3080 and IL-2 is great in my G2, though I get a solid 45fps. If 90fps is your goal, you've got a better case for the 3090.

3090 will not give constant 90 fps though either.  Great card though, just am not sure it is worth the big premium in price.

Thank you ....... Its hard to controll myself ( i need a wife ?) , but I let my common  sense rule my world .... At moment

I should pay 230$ more for the 3080 than shopprice .... The 3090 would be around 230 $ cheeper than shopprice .... But in about a month or so there will come the new GPU      'ti

So ..... I'm ok with my 2080 super .... At moment ?

You can’t always rely on a wife being your voice of reason - my wife actually paid for my 3090! ?

I agree with what @dburne wrote above. I enjoy 85-90 fps in MP with my 3090, but still have to turn down some things to achieve that. I also verified with my own tests that IL-2 doesn’t need more than 7.5 GBs of VRAM, so the 3080 is the better choice for most.

I tend to keep the same GPU for more years than most folk anyway.

I understand his dilemma. Right now all the 3080s are ridiculously overpriced and if he can get a second hand 3090 that's below the official price, it could make more sense than a ridiculously overpriced 3080 with less than half the memory.

I got a 3090 for 1500 and I don't regret it. It's blazing fast. IL-2 has some issues with its engine (HDR, SSAO and lots of clouds killing framerates at incredibly high resolutions) but it's been worth it so far.

P.S. I am referring to scalability. The performance hits of these settings is non-linear to resolution. They increase extremely at higher, nowadays non-standard resolutions. At ~6000x3000. So it's a complaint from the high horse, to be fair.
