When I start up IL-2 all I get in the headset is "Dash encountered a fatal error." I restart Dash as instructed in the headset but the error appears over and over again until I exit IL-2. IL-2 seems to be running fine in the background (I can login and exit IL-2). I've tried updating nvidia drivers, reinstalling Oculus, reinstalling IL-2, running with and without public test channel in Oculus.

Yes I am. Pretty fresh install. CPU is 8600k and GPU is GTX 1060 6 GB.

Did you check "allow unknown sources" in the Oculus software?

Are you running an older build of Windows 10 from an Enterprise build?   If you are running a Windows 10 build prior to 1804 I think it was.. the Rift S will simply not work or have all sorts of errors.

Yes. And the other sim works.

I don't think so. It's the installation usb image that you can download from Microsoft and I downloaded it just a few weeks ago so I presume it is up to date. Rift S has been working fine otherwise.

Thanks all for the help so far! I'm hopeful we can get this working!

Ran windows update and it says I'm up to date. Probably the only unusual thing about my setup is that my primary display is a TV. Should I start up IL-2 in non-VR and are there any settings or anything I should look at in IL-2?

Hi Austinnh. You need to be running either Steam VR or Opencomposite and then fire up your Rift. Then you can start the game.

Oh I had no idea. Never used Steam VR and never heard of Opencomposite. I'll look into it in the morning. Thank you!

Ok so I've got Opencomposite running and now I can see IL-2 in the headset. Thank you for telling me about that.

The oculus dash error is still present in the headset and blocking my view! I can get it to disappear for a few seconds by killing OculusDash and OculusClient via task manager but the tasks always restart themselves and the error message pops up in front of my face over IL-2.

I sent some screenshots and logs to the Oculus ticket so hopefully they'll be able to help.

Question: Do I need to install SteamVR too? At this point I only installed Opencomposite. I don't have Steam or SteamVR installed at all.

Thanks for the help so far!

So here is a workaround process I've found after hours of experimenting and searching. (Amazingly, I can't find a single other person on the entire internet with this particular problem.)

1. Put the headset on so it turns on normally. This is necessary because the headset will not turn on if dash is not able to run.

2. Start up IL-2. It appears in the headset but causes dash to emit an error message blocking the center of my view.

3. Set use file explorer to set OculusDash.exe to run as administrator. This is necessary because, for some reason it stops the Oculus Dash from re-starting once I end the task.

4. End the Oculus Dash task in task manager. The message disappears in the headset, but it will come back in a few seconds if I didn't do step 3.

5. Play IL-2!!!!!!!

6. Set OculusDash.exe to not run as administrator. This is necessary because, as stated in step 1, without doing this the headset will not turn on the next time I try to use it.

Now I still need to figure out

A. How to set IPD. I bound a button to it in IL-2 but that is a percentage. My IPD 67mm. What percentage is that!? I'll try to do some research.

B. The sound is not working. IL-2 settings don't appear to allow me to select output device so I wonder if it's outputting to the wrong audio device.

C. How to put in a custom cockpit photo. This is absolutely necessary to my enjoyment of the game!

for your custom photos   not my guide     but the talented @Wanderfalke  posted this  ive used it  and it works.

as far as your sound I run into this constantly, its not il2  its windows 10.  Im running a rift s.   But it keeps trying to force its audio,    I have to constantly go into windows 10 properties  and force my audio settings (make default).  the rift s audio is shit.  Much better with my logi  g533. (Im nearly deaf btw).  Ipd  i cant help you with  Im fortunate enough that I put on my headset  and no adjustment is needed.  I run steam vr,  But open composite is good too.

Btw   since I have issues remembering things   I use the photo  for notes  on the aircraft Im flying.   Settings etc...   (      I got caught  with a scantily clad photo of a female on my dash  by the wife).

Thats my excuse

The IPD is on the Oculus Dashboard under Devices -> At top it says "Rift S and Touch" with picture of Headset - click that see picture below

Windows key + S brings up the windows 10 sound dialog/window  - choose the correct sound output for the oculus app and the game ie  HeadSet Headphones 2- Rift S  - or set that as the default (at the top), and then reset the steam/game/oculus ones to use default.

To get rid of the error sounds like you should try Steam - make sure you run steam VR (top right of the steam window)
