ITAF_Civetta Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 Hi all...I hope you stay safe in these strange days and I hope you have spent a peaceful and happy christmas. I'm new in the magic world of IL2. I've spent the last month learning the game mechanics and the various planes. I'm still learing but I really love it and I find it very hard. The biggest problem is the visibility of the contacts (air to air I mean). I cant see them in time to be able to position my self in a good position...it's always too late...and the enemy is on my 6. Can I do something to improve my spot? Thanks a lot and...see you in the sky! 3 1
BOO Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 I share your pain (as all of my former squadmates will attest). You can lower the gamma a little. This can help but can also affect general visibility in low light (I think you can still change it on the fly though) and you can discipline yourself to check your sectors properly (not as easy as it sounds) and get into the habit of check turns. Setting the ground filter to "Blurred" also used to help spotting a little as did enabling "Sharpen" in the graphics settings. Any form of AA will reduce spotting abilty but improve the games graphical quality as will upping the sharpness of your monitor. Its a balance ---unless you are prepared to do whatever to gain the advantage. Best of luck to you 1
Mac_Messer Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 The LOD graphics on planes was reworked just months ago. It basicly is as good as it gets. Try different combinations of gamma/color/contrast/brightness and see what suits you (your monitor). Other than that, lots of looking around and rest is experience. 1
Beanie Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 Hi Civetta - I am also new to the forum and am just finding my feet. Do you have a TrackIR? as I find that using this is a great help although in a recent mission a Bf 109 F4 took me out as I was focus on bringing down a HA to my front. Regards 1
Mollotin Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 play the game a lot and u will be better at spotting. Also large monitor helps Good luck! 1
ITAF_Civetta Posted December 30, 2020 Author Posted December 30, 2020 Thanks for your post... Tonight I tried to set up my monitor. I did a calibration and I improve contrast a little bit. It seems better now. Infact, when I see an russian or allied contact its wings have a slight shimmer...a big step ahead to identification friendly or not. And than, most important thing, I can see much more distant contacts...maybe becouse I set my gamma a little bit down. Thanks for all the tips that you gave me...really appreciate
=LD=dhyran Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 Hiho Civetta, join us on the Temuris Dynamic War server with Icons and GPS! You get access to the fun of the sim! S! dhyran 1
ITAF_Civetta Posted December 31, 2020 Author Posted December 31, 2020 Hi @=LD=dhyran... I'll check the server you said. It seems to be easier with icons and GPS. It could be a good way improve my flight skill... Thanks ?

I live in the UK so, the timing that we are on is about 10.30 to about 13.30pm. Send me a PM if you would like to fly with us and I will send you the password for the server and the password for teamspeak. Oh...and we only fly allied. Which module do you have? We mostly fly on Bodenplatte and Kuban. 1

I also wonder if 4k 60fps (or 120fps) helps? I'm going to upgrade in a couple of years to find out. It'd be nice if allies gave more detailed radio reports about enemies. It would also be nice if AI enemies occasionally lost sight of their targets (just as players do). Maybe a future patch will add these features? Until then try turning up the 'haze' setting in the mission settings. 1
taikoJH Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 Or you just activate "improved visibility", as I do. (Single player, that is) It seems to enlargen the plane models at far distances, so you can see bogeys better. Works for me and I can pretend to have 20/20 eyesight. 1
