Been playing with this for a little under a week, few little things I've noticed

So far, lots of fun. Playing on Finnish Pilots quite a bit and if I'm not wanting to dig all my flight stuff out. I can play tanks.

The sounds of battle from the ground are phenomenal and if you blindfolded me I'd have a hard time telling you what flyby was real and what was in the game.

-First thing, is there the possibility of adding a throttle lock? The distance between targets is pretty long and holding your finger there for 10-15mins starts to hurt after a while.

-Invisible trees/objects

They are sneaky and hurt ALOT. In some cases you will injure the crew so badly that its a sortie ender because you can no longer see.

-Possibility of adding a range finder or something within in the specifics tab to help us range our targets a little easier?

-Multiplayer anti-tank AI at objectives is INSANELY accurate. Its usually a one shot kill, if they do miss the first shell. I promise they don't miss the second! They also seem to ignore cover as I've been nailed 1000ft in the trees.

You end up having to snipe at a pretty extreme range and it just burns ammo...

-Some of the damage models seem a little... off. SU152 had a pretty decent rep as a Tiger/Panther killer. I nailed one twice at range (Head on mind you) and was got one shot in return. I don't know enough about these to push this point alot. But it seemed.. odd

-Plans for graphic optimization? I run everything on Ultra/High at 1440P and am usually 110fps-140fps while flying and in my tank avg about 70-100fps depending on where I am. I have a pretty beefy computer so it could hinder those running older tech? So far my experience on the ground has been sublime.

A favorite moment was during a foggy, low cloud sortie. I was pushing a grove of trees off the road to flank the enemy troops. I could hear the 110 above me, every so often catching glimpse of a twin engine silhouette stalking me. The fog obscured the terrain around me, with the occasional tree top peeking through to help me navigate to my next waypoint. The engines got quiet. I figured the 110 had given up and went in search of easier prey. So I made my full throttle dash across the clearing only to hear those twin DBs coming.

This thing shot out of the clouds and came at me scrapping the tree tops, clawing wildly at the air trailing exhuast from both engines. I was in deep trouble. I stood on the brakes hoping to throw off the aim of that cannon. I attempted to get my commanders .50cal in position, the tank ringed with cannon impacts and suddenly its time to bail out. The tank is on fire, the driver is dead. But it was a phenomenal experience.

For tanks, if you already have a throttle I'd suggest binding the tank throttle to your throttle although that doesn't change the notion that keyboard players really do need to have some sort of throttle lock as you suggest. That'd be helpful for sure.

Did that in warthunder but your pinky gets pretty beat up using the paddle so often.

Keyboard is definitely the lesser of two evils

Their cruise is you can select what gear and your throttle is at 100%

Tip for TC:  While holding down throttle button, pull up the map, release throttle button, hit button to turn off the map again, and just like that, you’re throttle is locked. You can still steer as well.  Just tap the throttle again for it to stop.

I'm curious if we can have more involvement with the devs on this one.

There's alot of potential here but I'll say this also

I heavily considered a refund the first night of playing.

@DenumPenguin I would say stick with it. For me TC really comes alive when you play with other players. Creeping through a village looking for targets knowing there is someone else out there doing the same, but looking for you. Working with a team mate to capture a bridge or take control of a town is something else.

Get comfortable with all the tank controls and then have a look at some of the Public servers. There are ones also that have planes and tanks which again adds another dimension.

Have a look also at joining up with a squad.

Tank Crew has so much to offer and will only get better.

With keyboard you can by pressing two keys at the same time, my prefered method: Hold either the key for forwards or backwards(depending on if you want to move forward or reverse) and then hit enter key. then it will go auto and you wont have to hold the key to drive, to stop: press the forward/reverse key twice, then the tank will stop or require you to drive again.

Hitting a tree in speeds above 15kmh will hurt the crew in real life, but yes these invisible trees are a menace, theres a thread made by Rivaldo where one can help the developers to find them and have them removed.

Most normal tanks didnt have the scissor/range finder binocolours, but the assault guns like ferdinand and ISU 152 should have one, but so far it doesnt exist but hopefully the developers will add it one day, for Panzer IV and T-34 and the standard tanks you can calculate it by using the gunsight or using experience as you get a good grasp of it after a while.

They were way more accurate in the past :P Now they miss one 2-3 times or even more if you are hull down or using terrain to your advantage but if you stand out in the open and shoting at their base they will soon zero in on you. Biggest issue is they often see through terrain which is annoying, but when it do work as it should you can get the drop on them often if you use the terrain properly, but once you start shoting nearby the base they will notice and start aiming for you, so you better use the surprise moment to take out the guns that will start aiming for you.

Well thats real life, either sneak in close and use terrain or if you use more open terrain: shot from distance is safest method, and ammo is something that will be burning, unlike warthunder and arcade games here it takes 2-5 shots before you start hitting at ranges.

The damage models are far from perfect but its ever evolving and improving, one also need to remember the shell might tumble in the air or hit the enemy tank froma  certain angle etc that it wont do much to it, this is where experience as a gunner comes in handy.

My pc has no issues running TC on 100 or more fps but then again I have the best graphic card and processor on the market until recently but a graphic optimization would be a good thing especielly on prokarovka map for the pilots who complains that its unplayable for aircraft.

Sad truth is there arent many tank squads at the moment, the biggest two are SCG which I belong to and JG-1.

Not sure if we're using the same controls here. When I want my tank to go forward, I move my throttle past 50% on my throttle (for what it's worth, its a VIRPIL T-50 and I have the detent set at 50%). When I want to stop I bring it back to 50%. When I want to go backwards I bring it back under 50%. No pinkys are getting beaten up.

Loved the review. Thanks for supporting Tank Crew.

I would like to see them improve on the sound/graphics of artillery/tank rounds hitting near your tank, but the sound of the other vehicles/planes as they go by is pretty decent.

Use the "ENTER" key as @SCG_judgedeath3 has suggested. It works really well.

Now that IL2 includes ground war vehicles, the hope is that the Dev's will start to put more focus on cleaning up the maps a bit. As @SCG_judgedeath3 suggested, if you hit one, take a screen shot with your mini-map open to record the location and then post it in the appropriate thread on the Technical Issues and Bugs reports forum. The Dev's have pointed out that the initial maps come from an era when computing power was a fraction of what it is today. It would only make sense that graphic/map optimizations are part of the roadmap going forward. I am really waiting to see what is coming in the Normandy map, and how that differs from the BOS map for example.

Its 1942 man, have your gunner/commander practice using their gun sight optics/binoculars to range targets.

AI is a current "HOT TOPIC" for guys/gals in tanks. The Dev's have made some progress in this area, but need to keep up the effort if they want to fully address the issue. Shooting through hills and forests is just not cool.

Damage/ballistics models would be one of my biggest complaints. I think there is still a lot that needs to be done in this area to make the simulation more accurate. You can read/hear a lot of different stories that might make you wonder if the Dev's don't pander to certain crowds in their audience. There are a couple good thread going on this if you want to spend the time doing a little reading, but my hope is that the Dev's would model the damage/ballistics as close and accurately as possible, and forget trying to make it so that a player in an SU122 can take a Panther out frontally from 1500m with one shoot 10x in a row.

If you want to get to know the tanks a little better all be it without the air component, my suggestion would be to play around with the Quick Mission builder a bit. All 3 of the modes can help a lot with practice using your gun sight, but my favorite is the skirmish mode (3 red/blue tanks in white circle icon). I think it is one of the most underrated features of Tank Crew. You can mix and match the munitions load-out of up to 3 formations on each side with up to 4 tanks in each formation. Pairing off differences in armor protection with differences in shell penetration performance of the different vehicles you select can create some really interesting engagements. It would be nice to see the Dev's make the QMB more robust in terms of being able to add AT guns/ more control over where each formation spawns, but I have spent a quit a few hours comparing various combinations of tanks with a lot of enjoyment.

WELCOME TO THE GROUND WAR!

You're lucky to enjoy this moment, personally that's what I hate the most about TC, aircraft... ?

Why? Your feedback seems generally rather positive. What is the point(s) that made you consider a refund?

I play pretty much exclusively online. This was a player that smoked me.

First night was ramming trees I couldn't see, getting hit by AI a ton. Overall the first experience wasn't so good.

The area of the map I was started in was very bland.

Things got better afterwards, but if I was a player unfamiliar with the series I'd probably have refunded and been on my way.

How can you expect to be proficient at any sim after one  use? Don't take this personally as I suffer from it also, but becoming familiar and effecient with any sim takes time. If I based my review and desire to return a sim of any type on one days playtime, I wouldn't own any sims at all. It takes time to become confident in any sim not to mention in setting up the controls and becoming familiar and effecient while using them. I want to just jump in and be a tank ace and whoop the AI's a$$ also, but 'never was a tank ace made overnight'. The problems are there, yes we have to be real and admit that, but the more time I put in, the more Fun I have. The really good point is that 1C really actually seems to be listening to the community here and implementing changes that are fundamentally changing TC for the better. The bad thing is that they can't make the changes fast enough for my impatience. IMHO, any potential customers need to do more reading of reviews and Forums to get the overall reaction of the sim communities to a particular sim game before purchasing it. Of course one will never truly know whether they like the sim until they experience it, but at least a couple of weeks is needed to make a final decision. As the wise Ent Treebeard once said, " don't be hasty little Shirelings". TC has a lot of the foundation laid down, now if 1C will follow through and flesh TC out then our investment will pay off and we each will enjoy a great Tank sim. Here is to hoping that dream comes true in 2021 and beyond.

I've play sims since... well whenever Microsoft released Combat Flight Simulator 1

It was less my performance and more the game itself, Once I found a good online server it got better, It was a situation of dropping 96$ and expecting... well quite a bit more.

I'm sure it'll come.

96$, wow. Not sure I would pay that much tbh. Where do you live? Fiji atol? Is there a nuclear fallout surcharge?

Bravo, bravo. Well put. I can think back to the time when some of us pled the developers to add more tanks to the game. They listened and Tank Crew was the result. TC has improved steadily. I fully expect it to be added to and made better and better. It is not all I want it to be or should be, yet. But it is on its' way. I have to wonder what the Normandy module will present us as in any additional armor goes.

Most 'simulations' are not easy to play well and most have a steep player learning curve. At 70-90$ in cost, any game should be wisely researched before purchasing. That is unless one has plenty of spare cash on hand, (not me).  :coffee:
