Flying Circus - DRM / Copy Protection

Recommended Posts

Posted

I watched a lot of reviews on youtube and read them on the internet. Most of them dont mention DRM/copy protection and some mention "internet connection required" in the Game Requirements, but since it has a multiplayer option, that's an understandable requirement.

What is the actual, plain text DRM requirements on playing / owning the game ?  Judging what some have said in other posts, there is some form of 'always on' internet requirement for some or all of the game. I am guessing IL2 is being a bit cagey on this ?

Oh, I just bought it and downloaded it before making this post, The game is just 168 megs?  Is that just a "stub" ? It seems like a lot of game is missing. (I havent installed the game yet).

Do you own a Steam copy of BOS as well?  If not, you will require the BOS version (either Steam or non-steam) so your other IL2 modules (like your FC vol#1) will run through it.  Apparently, they aren't marking this requirement clear enough on the additional BOS module expansions, because a number of recent new players are having this same problem.

Typo...

Thanks, I should have added that information>

  Flying Circus:   NON-Steam, No Add-Ons.

BOS (?) isnt on any requirement they showed me.

I visited the site, saw a WW1 flying game for sale $27 USD, checked some reviews and game requirements - then bought it and downloaded it.

Im starting to get the idea I made a mistake.

Yeah that's to bad, you're not alone as a number of others have recently had the same problem.  The good thing is Steam is selling it now for under $10 so great buy, but at least with it you can then add the other modules as you see fit.

BOS = 'Battle of Stalingrad'.

BOS is selling really cheap in IL2's game store too I see, only a few buck more...

IL-2 Sturmovik: Flying Circus - Volume I is part of the IL-2 Great Battles series of products and can be played as a separate stand-alone product or be integrated with other Great Battles titles such as Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Moscow, Battle of Kuban and Battle of Bodenplatte. Combine all titles to create one big WWI and WWII air and ground combat simulation.

Well, this is what it says on the store page, so unless they're outright lying you don't need an extra purchase.  In terms of D/L and installation, you should get the whole Great Battles package with the D/L, but only what you've paid for is unlocked to play - in this case FC1.  A quick check shows my installation to occupy 44 GB.

From the web-store you get whatever you want. I started playing with just the Bodenplatte and Flying Circus preorders and couple of collector aircraft. The latter two being the only thing I was able to use for a while. Everything under the same installer same game, the purchases just unlocks the content inside that.

Steam is where the requirements change. You need Stalingrad first apparently and then you can get the others.

Thanks for the clarity on that, Oliver88.  I'll change my tune a little regarding the Steam/Non-Steam requirements.
