jollyjack Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 (edited) Again something's missing in ME 4.501 .. happened before and then al of a sudden was back: ADDED: ResetEditorSettings.cmd fixed it Edited November 23, 2020 by jollyjack
jollyjack Posted November 23, 2020 Author Posted November 23, 2020 (edited) Hello bug hunters. Surface edit and heights dropdown menus keep disappearing in the ME 4.503. ResetEditor command works only once, on the next boot they're gone again. If i start the ME from within an old backup folder of 4.008 it's all there. Each and every boot, only the 4.503 version missions wont load so it's useless. I have been complaining about this since 4.501, and it's getting annoying as i was in the process of adding an airfield and some scenery to the Rheinland map, which i cannot continue now. Most people do or did not notice this bug; heard remarks like i did not know it should be there. Some have no problems and both menus show however. Also this 4.503 version crashes a lot, spontaneous a CTD on saving or zooming in the view port. This is not only with me but i keep hearing other's complaints too. I run it in Windows 7 mode now, with scaling adapted for the ME only. I have even been looking in the registry for settings, but the surface edit and heights menus don't seem to be mentioned there. REGISTRY: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\1CGS\STEditor After the reset editor command this folder is gone, and does NOT come back after an ME reboot. Maybe there's the problem? PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT !!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows LTSC 64bit, NVIDIA 2080ti 11G, 24GB ram, all drivers updated. 4k Acer monitor. jollyjack Posted November 24, 2020 Author Posted November 24, 2020 (edited) ADDED: i found that when you switch off 'Open Last Used Mission on Start, the surface edit and height menus are back !! But only after using the ResetSTeditor.cmd file. Something is wrong with the registry entries made on ME boot IMO. Edited November 24, 2020 by jollyjack
1CGS -DED-Rapidus Posted November 29, 2020 1CGS Posted November 29, 2020 @jollyjack, why do you need a surface editor?
jollyjack Posted November 29, 2020 Author Posted November 29, 2020 (edited) Hi Rapidus. I am in the process of correcting the Rheinland map locally in regards of a (historical sort of) mission making attempt in the Dutch Zuid Holland area. My dad fought in 1940 as local airfield defender at a small (missing) airfield as 19 year old sergeant, why my interest. They 'won' this battle actually destroying Nazi elite para troopers and their Ju52 planes with one AA cannon, and nothing more than one-shot WW1 rifles. And then Hitler bombed Rotterdam out of revenge. ------ So on the map are quite a few missing towns, airfields, canals, roads and railways, whole harbors. Missing roads and railways programming i don't know if that's possible as for active vehicle or train movements .... I figured out how to edit landscape heights, like editing in missing dunes (see 2 pictures) and other terrain corrections. What really frustrates me now is that i cannot edit out (or in) forest areas; they are programmed solidly in the way for corrections. also where Dordrecht town is (omitted from the default Rheinland maps). -------- Dordrecht is a very old place, older than the year 1100 at least. 1940 saw an important battle there about the two Moerdijk bridges some 15 km below that ares. (3rd picture has Map edit active; the red blob cursor change at the arrow with the blue circle in Ortho view only which does nothing, Laprino winter map). -------------- Missing dunes edited in around Hook of Holland, first attempt in repairing the coast line, but trees in the wrong place are in the way: Edited November 29, 2020 by jollyjack
Thad Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 (edited) Along the same lines of thought. I purchased some reference material to build some historically based armored battles that Patton's 3rd Army fought during The Battle Of The Bulge. Unfortunately, NONE of the towns and villages referenced, where the battles took place, are on the Rheinland map. ? If us mission builders were given the needed map tools, we could do some amazing things. Edited November 29, 2020 by Thad

I am interested in the Ardennes, spent quite some time there on holidays and even playing with a Belgian band in the past. A lot of essential WW2 stuff is also really missing in the German scene, especially the industrial areas of the Ruhgebiet.
