HagarTheHorrible Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 Personally, I ,just don’t get “Livestreams”. If they involve someone from “outside” fine, a developer, a producer, etc, someone who can offer something new, but just to spend ages going over the stuff we already know ????? Just do a proper review, and be done with it. 4

ICDP Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 (edited) The answer is no, it most likely isn't. Pimax 8KX just as clear but higher FOV and works with Lighthouses for better tracking. Index has better FOV and better tracking So as usual it's going to be a case of win some lose some in comparison to other VR devices. Edited November 8, 2020 by ICDP 1
Blitzen Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 I've pre-ordered the Reverb G2 to replace my Pimax5K, so I am looking forward to initial Il-2 GB reviews in November.I probably won't be getting mine until December so there will be time for others to test it out .Also plenty of time for the newere graphics cards to become more widely available ...I hope!? 1

This guy compared both of them IRL and while 8kx has wider FoV and comparable resolution G2 still has better image quality and clarity however 8kx he used in his review is not final version. G2 vs pimax8kx at ~22:45

G2 vs pimax8kx at ~22:45 This is my point, I have bolded the pertinent part. The G2 has a very narrow FoV and as someone who had a G1 I (and many others) cannot go back to such a restricted view. So while the G2 will improve in many areas it will have some drawbacks. There are existing HMDs that do offer improvements in many areas and until we have a HMD that does all needs we cannot have a single HMD claim to be the best on the market because there will always be someone who says "not for me". Some can live with lower FoV, many can't I can live with LCD screens, many can't and must have OLED Some want 120Hz or above Some refuse to have anything to do with inside out tracking Etc

Currently on Rift S so G2 will be improvement on all areas for me. As you said above we all have different preferences, for me biggest drawbacks are: 1. Low pixel density and lenses that makes it possible to count pixels 2. Clarity 3.FoV (haven't tried wider than oculus 90° so it may vary on priority list) Here are FoV tests on all HMD's: Edited November 10, 2020 by =VARP=Ribbon
Ribbon Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 Here is one lucky guy, getting G2 and pimax 8kx in the same day.....he's only missing rtx3080/3090! He did some comparision review! 1
PatrickAWlson Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 I have the G1 and have loved it since I bought it. Would really like a G2 but hard to justify spending another $600 less than a year later (not hard to justify it for myself, but my wife is a different matter ). Still, appreciate the reviews. The article posted by @=VARP=Ribbon seems to fall in line with my use case. I use VR for simming. At the moment I do not use it for other games types. Acknowledging the superior FOV of PIMAX, HP seems to really make the best choices in terms of price and clarity. For me, the clarity is more important than the increased FoV (that's what I have a neck for ), especially at half the price. Looking forward to further reviews as they relate to IL2. Especially interested in how much of an upgrade the G2 is over the G1 specifically in IL2. 1
ICDP Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 I can only compare G1 to the 8KX and the great thing about the G1 is it is much easier to setup. I spent a few days tinkering with the 8KX to get it looking as sharp as it should be out of the box. But once I got it tweaked it is definitely sharp and clear and the FoV is so much better for sims. Just wish Pimax as a company weren't so shoddy. 1

Ribbon Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 Reading on reddit many have hw issues with their G2, so i suggest to those who already got thier G2 to keep thier old HMD for a while as a backup!
HunDread Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 I've heard voices that this might be the reason they are stalling the Europe ship.

That came on my mind too since EU has very strict laws on customer rights. Well at least it gives us some time to cancel preorders if turns out G2 quality has some serious issues, as well it gives time to HP to solve those flaws on production line.... Whatever it is i hope they're going to fix it, i'd rather wait extra month than recive faulty product and mess with RMA. Once i get mine G2 i'll still keep my Rift S for a while before i sell it!

Yeah I am loving my G2 but will keep Rift S also, for those Oculus games I enjoy from time to time. 1

You are right. If it's true it's better later. And 2-3 weeks sooner or later is not really an issue.

Mine would not be recognized until the fourth one I tried, which was one on a PCI USB expansion card I happen to have. None of the ports directly on the mobo would work with it.

Also in addition, double check the cable connection at the headset and make sure it is inserted all the way in properly. On mine I pushed it until I felt it stop, but then had to press just a little more before I felt it go in and seat. Not too hard, just enough to get it inserted. Edited November 18, 2020 by dburne
Charlo-VRde Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 I’ll also add that with my older, Titan X Hybrid GPU that only goes up to DisplayPort 1.2 you have to use 60 MHz in WMR settings for any image to show up in the G2. But at least I can enjoy the clarity of the G2 as I await my next GPU, once I see benchmarks and feedback from others here with a new AMD 6800 series
