Load times for missions are taking quite a bit of time...why?

Within the last few months I've noticed that the loading times to fly missions even on the older maps is getting longer for me & way way longer on the bigger maps like the Rhineland ( esp!) Somtimes the mission on that map NEVER loads & I have to bail out on the entire sim & start over again. I play with Mods but other than that I can think of no reason or solution to this time consuming problem...any ideas on how to solve?
