Dynamic Campaigns

Hi guys, I've got the steam release of BoS and I've thinking of getting BoM (from steam as well) since it's on sale atm. If I was to start a dynamic campaign with BoM and BoS already installed and then bought BoK later down the line would the campaign pick up BoK after finishing the BoS section? Or are they treated as different campaigns and the character creation screen is where the created character is carried over?

Yes, I believe you can even start a German campaign in BoM and finish up in BoBp.

Also great profile pic! Had Space Cruiser Yamato on VHS as a kid. ?

@Soilworker ah cheers, I wasn't quite sure how the system worked so, didn't want to start a campaign hoping to take it all the way through only to find I couldn't because I didn't have one of them when I started it.

Yeah, I've never seen the original but the recently remake became one of my favourites.

You're very welcome.

I've seen the new one and enjoyed it, it's a bit different to the story of the original and I think I prefer the original, the Yamato takes a pounding but keeps on limping on. See if you can find it somewhere, I'd say it's worth checking it out. (Now I really want to watch it again, it's been maybe 15 years!) ?

it's what they called a dynamic campaign 25 years ago.  Now it's a career :)

A dynamic campaign is where the front lines change dynamically over the course of your campaign.  The best simulate practically the entire war - or give you that impression.  In some games the better you do in the missions, the better the ground forces do on the ground.  Examples of games with dynamic campaigns include Falcon 4, Mig Alley, Longbow I & II, and Fleet Defender.

I know, I just used the wrong term, I was talking about the base career mode.

Must admit I now prefer the way career mode is handled by the Il2 team now vs how it was in the past with other games like Mig Alley, Falcon 4 etc, but I know everyone has their preferences :).

Your definition is too narrow to capture the historic usage...

A dynamic campaign is one with dynamic elements - e.g. randomisation or procedural generation of *any* part of the mission.

What you are talking about would be better referred to as a 'strategic campaign' (i.e. if you can influence the war) or a 'dynamic campaign with a living-world' if it is just giving you the impression of simulating the entire war (i.e. many of the mission events aren't directly related to your mission).
