Barnacles Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 If the tempest loses these covers by for example opening the landing gear whilst in a fast dive, then after you close the landing gear again you do not get any speed loss from aerodynamic penalty. 1

Without the landing gear cover, the flow of air is disturbed as it will turbulate in the wheel well and so increase drag. The higher the speed and the higher the effect (to the square) But the penalty is smaller than with an open landing gear and I am not sure the physical model goes to such detail. But you are right there should be a small penalty. In combat this can just penalize by a few knots the enemy plane and allow you to catch it in extreme situations.

The p38 65kmh. Tempest is zero. It used to lose a fair bit of speed before recent updates. 1

Barnacles Posted November 7, 2020 Author Posted November 7, 2020 Problem seems to still be there, Map was QM, Rhineland Spring, auto level at 1600m in default loadout. Full throttle and RPM. One run I deliberately ripped gear doors off in dive. Both planes achieved 603kmh I took a photo of the graphical damage. (the slight altitude difference is because of mountains, the true altitude is the same.
