@Off_Winters Salute, Just wanted to tell you how well your mod is working in our Campaign against the 352nd squad. The terrain certainly makes for some interesting tactics on the ground.

I wanted to ask, I am in the process of building a Tank campaign based on the Sherwood Rangers British tank corp in Normandy.

I would very much like to have the UK flag and not the Soviet one for obvious reasons.

Is it possible for you to bundle up your union flag mod into a separate package so I could have it for my Normandy campaign, seeing as how the devs still have not included one.

G'day all,

still plodding along after most recent game 5003 update, had to revisit some of the work done for the previous update.

WIP shot of revised C47 skin.
image.thumb.png.30a5616d06f2609d6fda278a046cd975.png

now that I have a basic template done, I've got a couple of other schemes for the C47 to include.

I'm now aiming for a Christmas Eve release of the next update, providing there's no more official game releases between now and then.

regards Rob.

G’day All,

I had to use 7zip instead of my normal winrar zipping as the file was to big for winrar. In the past I have had issues trying to open 7zip files with any program other than 7zip.

has anybody been able to down load with success accessing files?

I’ve just moved house today and won’t have internet installed at new address for at least a week, so it will be after that before I can reupload

regards Rob..

All good using 7zip.  Sorry too much wine at dinner. Unzipping v7 by mistake.

@Off_Winters

Curious why the mgm files are included? The stock ones should be ok to use (since you can't change them as far as I know) so was it just convenience as it allowed you to zip up a folder rather than cherry picking files? It may make the package small enough to get into a single rar file leaving them out.

Rob,

I too have experienced the same problem as mentioned above, no luck unzipping the newest files.  Hopefully, when you get moved in you can correct the problem.  By the way have you experienced any issues with the P-40 extending its landing flaps, particularly when more than 4 planes are in a flight?  I have had this happen with multiple missions and have notified the developers as have several other players.  You might consider informing the developers if you had this happen.

Rob,

The download works just fine now.  Great work, I still have to see if  the P-40’s extend their flaps as I saw after the last update as I’m uncertain as to the cause … a bug or perhaps your MOD although I never saw it until after the last update!  Strange things happen in cyberspace.  Hopefully the developers will correct it, as numerous players have reported it.

I've tested several of the missions and the lowered P-40 flaps did not appear with your MOD running, so it must be the newest update!

Thanks Bill,

I hadn’t noticed the flaps on the P40 since last official update. But I’m certain it’s a game update rather than the mod causing the problem. I have only added textures for P40 rather than editing any of the text files controlling aircraft functions.

G’day Scott,

the included mgm files are where I have used British and US models to replace Russian equipment, or where I have swapped out building types for another type.

I take a given model and then rename and edit text files etc so the game will display the British or US item instead of the Russian one. I have replaced most Russian vehicles, and static Russian aircraft with British or US vehicles now.

Rob,

I just noticed that the use of Tactical Codes is not functional with your MOD.  Did you realize that?

Hi Bill,

yes I disabled them, as they overwrite a large proportion of the AI aircraft historical skins I included, that use default skin positions.

once the devs have fixed the issue of the game assigning ad-hoc codes to AI aircraft I’ll put that option back in.

if you check this thread which I posted a little while back, it explains it a bit more. Also if you download that mod you’ll be able to see the texture files I edited and if you like find them and take them out of the desert mod folder which will give you tactical codes back in game.

it’s near the bottom of page 1 of mods section

Removing Player applied tactical codes from aircraft

Quick thought Rob - I made a modified version of the EfeDB unique skins mod recently so I know that updating each aircraft's info.txt file is quite workable for a mod. You have a fairly limited aircraft set and the info.txt file is where tac codes are enabled/disabled so likely setting up a mod specifically to suit each aircraft's skins is quite do-able. Do you have a list of which skin filenames should not use tac codes or if it is shorter, then a list of generic skin filenames that could use tac codes? - the control is deny tac codes = 1 or blank, so all generic skins have a blank for this control and so the default is to allow tac codes. Skins which have codes embedded in the skin I can specifically turn off tac codes just for that skin.

A brief spot check while in a WFH phone meeting (ie I may be wrong as I was multi-tasking) seemed to say that I could not rely on the skin having "blank" in the file name.

PS any skin such as Bf109e7_skin_04.dds will have deny tac codes set to 1 anyway as it is set up that way in the game. Any stock skin with blank in the file name will have deny tac codes = "" per the game set up. So I only need to know where you have replaced a xyz_blank_99.dds type skin with a skin with embedded codes or a skin that is a truly user made skin with embedded tac codes outside the normal xyz_skin_99.dds or xyz_blank_99.dds - so it actually may be a much smaller effort than expected to setup a mod that allows tac codes to remain enabled.

G'day Scott,

Yes your theory on the plane text file being edited to "" instead of 1 would work, I did think about doing the edits for the planes I have added skins for. theres 33 plane types and 2 drivable vehicles that I have swapped out blank skins for historical skins. as well as skins that dont have "blank" in the file name. I shied away from editing the text files for each as it would be an extra 35 files I would have to check with each game update.

In the download there is a text file that lists all the skins by aircraft type and skin name with corresponding details of the new skins in place that I have included. (also lists skins creator as well) I made this list so mission builders could work out which of the stock game skins had desert scheme applied and pick them when making missions.

Below is the content of that text file. in some cases its only the default skin that has a desert scheme as I haven't gotten around to making skins for the selection menu yet.

regards Rob.

Rob,

I just noticed that the use of Tactical Codes is not functional with your MOD.  Did you realize that?

Bill

G'day Bill,

I'm back at my PC now, was in the airport traveling back to work when I wrote the above from my phone.

Here is the path\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\MODS\Kuban_Autumn-1943_Desert_Beta_8\data\graphics\textures\common

delete all the texture files with: "tacticalcodes_" in the file name (there's 12 files) and you'll have your tac codes working again.

regards Rob.

Ok I'll have a go. The files actually don't change much at all. I believe the intro of tac codes was the first time in years I believe because that was the cause of EfeDBs mod failing and what led to me poking around in it to get it working. Let you know how it goes.

@Off_Winters

One more quick one Rob - do your vehicle skins suffer the same issue? ie if tac codes get re-enabled your skins are mucked up by them?

Hi Scott,

yes mate, but there's only two vehicles at the moment that I have identified in my list of skins, the Sherman and the Churchill, as drivable vehicles.

I know one of the Tank Crew guys was having issues of tac codes over writing his custom skins and my removal mod fixed that for him as well as the aircraft.

Hi @Off_Winters and @Stonehouse

Salute,

What about the two AAA trucks in the drivable list?.

The DangerDogz and 352nd are using both in our current North Africa campaign.

The allied forces are using the Russian model and obviously the Axis are using the halftrack.

We have a custom sandy skin for the Russian truck and are using the default one for the Axis.

I made a custom mod pack of the download for our campaign that had the skins included and removed a lot of the skins for planes we are not using so this is not critical to us to ensure all players had the same skins etc.

Cheers

Only vehicle skins I'm seeing are for the M4a2, Churchill and PzIIIM. I think all the others are handled via textures rather than skins that you can pick from like in QMB setups for instance. So, in other words other than these 3 all the others have just one default texture which has been altered from European to desert. I can see the collector's German AAA halftrack in the ones covered by the mod (it has a desert texture but no skins) but not the GazMM. It doesn't really fit the vehicle set for the theatre, so I am guessing it was left out.

I think Rob will need to get back to you and if he adjusts things, I can just alter what I am doing to suit. Worst case I'm happy to walk you through how to control tac codes for a specific skin.

@Stonehouse - We are fine thanks - what we have works all ok. Players can add their own codes to the units as there are no default ones. I just wanted to highlight that there are other drivable vehicles being used on the map.

Hi Friar,

I'm using the stock skin for the German Halftrack in game, and I'm in the middle of painting the Russian AA truck to have a desert scheme. I will eventually change the German halftrack to have Afika Korps marking as well.

I have changed the uniforms on the germans to be Afrika Korps, included now. and I'm working on the Russian uniform to make it look mor like a US uniform, similar to what I did with the AI soldiers, artillery and AA crews. you'll see a few other vehicles (both axis and allied) in this update that have now got desert scheme applied.
