Tracking base stations with Reverb G2 question???

Recommended Posts

I currently have a Pimax 5K which because of room restrictions I can only use one of the tracking base stations which is approximately 7 feet away on my left quarter ( there is no room on the right - myPc is in the corner of the small room its located in. ) I have pre-ordered the new Reverb G2 & expect it to arrive in the next month or so & replace the Pimax , so my question for Reveb users is pretty obvious : will I be able to get away with the same sort of arrangement of basically using one base station instead of two?

Thanks!

@Blitzen The Reverb has inside out tracking. No need for external base stations.

The Reverb has four cameras that sense your surroundings and adjust the image in the headset to correspond. You only need to launch WMR portal and move the headset up/down and left/right for it to orient and then you are good to go.

The Reverb uses inside-out tracking, so no base station at all.

No no more base stations...its all built into the headset, if I understand you?

That is correct - no more base station with the Reverb.

But remember to leave some lights on in the room so the tracking system can work. They don´t work in the darkness.

Well I have pre-ordered and hope to test it sooner than later...but from the snippits I've read I don't expect delivery this side of November ...maybe even December. My Pimax will just have to shoulder on a bit longer that's all...

I've tried exactly that:

I turned Valve stacking station on, turned light in the room off, complete darkness, Reverb's tracking worked.

When i've read about that for the first time i thought it was some bullshit, but yes, it works. Reverb's cameras can see Valve tracking stations lasers and works 6DoF in complete darkness. It may also help if you have some mirrors or window reflections i guess, from obvious resons.

I think the OP was simply thinking that Reverbs needs basestations, and they are not needed.

But what you say here is interesting if you want to leave ligths off.

I have to try that when my Reverb G2 will arrive.
