grcurmudgeon Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Are you sure he didn't just stick his arm out of one of the myriad bullet holes in the fuselage to patch something up?
messsucher Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Haha, what is maybe the most amusing in flight sim forums is how good people are in spotting something what is wrong. 24 minutes ago, Heliopause said: Arm hanging out

If I even saw an arm hanging out as I screamed past a target I'd think ''wow, how realistic is that?... an arm actually hanging out one of the holes I've just punched in that Jerry plane!'' 1

No more of this issue for me where the enemy aircraft would dissapear briefly behind the canopy framing as you turned in, and then not being able to find him again even though you know he should be right in front of you. It`s pretty good. Spotting against terrain is still hard but not that hard. The planes still dissapear during zoom in though. 2
242sqdnd_bader_242sqdn Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 This update affected the end of mission stats reporting which no longer shows kills in quick mission single player mode. My system uses older Win 7 64bit home edition so maybe this is the issue but worked fine up until this latest update. Game still runs.
US103_Baer Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 (edited) So it seems this update has introduced 'Enhanced Visibility Lite' as standard for spotting. It can't be turned off Aircraft at very long range are large specks and when you zoom in they get smaller! I dislike it intensely as it destroys the art of long range stalk, makes a mockery of skill and experience, and breaks immersion as you struggle with zooming-in to ID nearer contacts and zooming-out to track far contacts. To estimate the distance at which aircraft are now visible i ran a quick test on our training server with Enhanced Visibility OFF. The result is aircraft were easily seen at over 25km distance on a 1440p 32" monitor. I believe that's the same pixel density as 1080p with a 24" monitor. 1. MAP - Field No. 7 is at Bellevue. Furball area is over 25km to South East. 2. Looking South East to an AI area over the mud near the the single/twin lakes. Aircraft are highlighted in the red circle. Field No. 7 is visible in bottom right of picture. This is max zoomed-out and no post-pro zooming, but it is cropped to make the whole image smaller. 3. Post-pro zoomed in to accentuate. Could WW1 aircraft be seen 25km away? Edited November 22, 2020 by US103_Baer
Mollotin Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Well i disagree. I like the way it is now. As far as i know aircrafts do not get smaller when u zoom in but they stay the same size. Things work way better in multiplayer now than before. U can actually find enemies and track their moves now.
JG1_Schulte Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 ~S~ Approximately 60* Field of view (default pilot head position) (LuaScripts XYZ (0)) Rendering is consistent in its nature throughout its distance envelope on my system. (Looks like the program is working) Change FOV, IE zoom in or out, a few degrees beyond 60* FOV, at my aspect ratio, and the rendering process gets inconsistent. Size, image quality, etc. I would love to fly, at a 1 to 1 image ratio, But cant at 60* FOV! And the inconsistent rendering at FOV is prevalent and disadvantageous. Moxy (JG1_Schulte) 1

They do get smaller at higher zoom (LOD is based on FOV, low LOD levels are larger). There are still some issues: Some planes have different LOD-enlargement ratios. A similar sized plane can appear twice as large as another at some distances. This needs a quality checking pass (BF109, Spitfire, La5 are good references). Lighting still has issues, personally I would prefer the game to choose high contrasting points on models to display as this better reflects how your eye picks up detail - as opposed to averaging (particularly now with deferred-ish lighting on distant LODs).
JG1_Schulte Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 (edited) ~S~ I do understand the complexities of the filing systems, etc. (un gtp, etc) and the possibility of aspect ratio, resolution. That everything and anything in graphics rendering can cause effect. And I'l even speculate that rendering has to come from some sort of zero point. (I can hack around, not program) But, I have to assume the Devs run the game on a few of their own Reference systems. Are they not seeing this? Yes we know they are aware of this phenomenon. So what is the common denominator to limit or eradicate this phenomenon, is it software, or hardware? Both? I just switched from ATI to nvida....The Game World looks relatively the same (very subtle differences), But the rendering of objects (aircraft) has increased to a point of providing tactical SA. (I can spot/see, therefore gain SA ) . So now Im am very aware of these rendering anomalies. Moxy (JG1_Schulte) Thanks Edited November 24, 2020 by II./JG1_Schulte

Its definitely harder to see them than when fully zoomed out. 2. 25+ km to see a Sopwirh Camel? It may be a better/easier gaming solution for ww2, but for ww1 it's way overkill. Even icons aren't visible at that range. Edited November 26, 2020 by US103_Baer
