Game version 4.501 discussion: New visibility, "Wind of Fury", 4K for P-39 and Bf-109-G6, Tanks final features

Recommended Posts

Dear friends,

We just released the new update - 4.501. Its shifted version number means it is a kind of a milestone and it really is. First, the research we did on the community opinion on the aircraft spotting allowed us to make many improvements to this important part of the sim.

..............................

In addition to these very important changes, today's update brings you the new campaign 'Wind of Fury' by Alexander =BlackSix= Timoshkov that is included in the Bodenplatte module.

..............................

Also, P-39L-1 "Aircrobra" (Battle of Kuban) and Bf 109 G-6 now have 4k quality external texturing created by Martin =ICDP= Catney.

..............................

Tank Crew gets the last planned features for its release in this update, making 4.501 a milestone for it as well.

..............................

I've been flying in expert mode in VR for a few weeks trying to get the hang of it and previously it was really tough to spot anything at distance and ground targets even more so. I just flew a mission in QMB and the changes in spotting are amazing! Both air and ground are much better. I find it a lot easier to keep sight of enemy A/C even when they are below.

Thanks for the update, I'm off to see if how long I can survive in the Career mode 😆

Steam appears borked at 2.1 GB

From discord chat, It appears most, if not all, steam users have this problem.

This is utterly fantastic. Thankyou

Edit: Two weeks IL2 time is much shorter than two weeks in another popular flight simulators time ;)

Looks like a great patch!

For server operators, be aware you need to open and re-save your missions. On Combat Box we do this with the "resaver" tool every time we deploy a map, so we just redeployed all our maps at once and it looks like it's working.

We'll be adding haze randomization to our weather randomization script in due course, once we've tested the haze settings. We don't want to accidentally add too much haze, like when we had the overcast weather and people really disliked it. I think there's less likelihood of this for haze but we will do a bit of testing before introducing the haze.

Question.

Does this new enhanced spotting mean, that the option as a bomber or ground attacker to sneak past enemy fighters, will be nearly impossible?

Certainly a lot harder than default visibility - it is intended to make spotting easier.

That depends.

You will have a harder time sneaking right under the noses of fighters as was possible before.

You will still be able to avoid fighters, but now that might mean you must take a diversion instead of simply flying straight to the target at low altitude.

Enemy fighters are also more likely to be dealing with your friendly fighters now also. There will still be plenty of chances to get to the target.

And of course, you as a bomber will have an equally easier time spotting fighters in the middle distance and more time to adjust your flight path to avoid them, or put yourself in a position to escape. We must all get used to taking a more strategic approach to target areas.

There is going to be a big adjustment period for both fighters and ground attackers, and for a little while at least the online environment is going to be spectacularly deadly for ground pounders, especially since some people will likely just not bother if it gets harder. BUT in the long run I think it will make it much more interesting for the attack pilot.

The Take Off-->Bomb Target-->Highlighted by Flak -->Shotdown by Target-Orbiting Experten pipeline will hopefully be disrupted and maybe we will see more aggressive air patrols, and more viable escorting because it will be easier to track the Big Friends and see incoming fighters, and you will be more likely to run into enemy fighters at different legs of the journey so it will be less boring for the escort.

Can't wait to try it out!

While two weeks could mean any length of time at all, 10 days apparently means sooner than expected!

My Steam install updated just fine. We don't control how Steam does it, but it should work for you. My web version also updates properly.

We held off on a couple other items what would take longer than planned.

If you already have the steam version installed, does that mean the windows installer will override this steam installation, or can it be used to update what is already installed?
