Dear friends,

The Autumn is here and our project is very close to another milestone. The next version 4.501 that will be released in a few weeks will contain very important improvements.

Good news for Bodenplatte owners: the long-awaited campaign for this module will be included in this update as well - its author Alexander =BlackSix= Timoshkov has much to tell you about it.

We will continue our Dev Blog with another important change that affects the aircraft visibility - update 4.501 will include the atmospheric haze setting.

..........................................................

We'll finish with a short report on the Normandy development. Here's our hero of the day - USAAF pilot in early war uniform and without the G-suit that was introduced in the theater later.

Great news, the Tempest campaign looks fantastic, just what Bodenplatte (and the Tempest!) needs! Also, that Hurricane 😍 I pre-ordered it a week ago, can't come soon enough.

Excellent DD. Really looking forward to the Tempest campaign, the new haze effect looks cool and there's a Hurricane in the shot. Bring it on! 👍

Looks fantastic! and good to hear about the fuel tanks. Can´t wait for that feature.

There was a huge thread on it already, with videos showing the tweaked visibility. Look for the later high-quality video to get a more accurate look at what's coming.

Thanks a lot for heads up RedKestrel...I coimpletely missed that thread.

It has been a really annoying poor feature in IL2 so far....even compared to Desert Wings that use an old engine

Other than that, great job guys. Can't wait to play the Wind of Fury campaign and move/fire the tank turret with the joystick.

It's a fairly big update in terms of changes to the base game so maybe its considered better to skip to 4.5 to show a big step?

Maybe its because we, like Bon Jovi, are halfway there* (to 5.0 Normandy).
*whoah-oh, winging on a prayer

In relation to missions, I found the explanation of historical reality vs. game play illuminating.  It helps in empathizing with the developers and understanding their choices; makes me less BITCHY.

Very interesting!

 

Has there been thoughts to including single-missions with the campaign which consist of an existing campaign mission but where the player is flying in one of the other aircraft (e.g. instead of escorting a Typhoon - they are flying the Typhoon)? It would be neat to try some of these missions from different points of view.

Wow the changes described here sound really great, I am really encouraged by what what I perceive to be a recent "pivot" to better listening by the developers (on the G issue and on the spotting issue). 

 

The haze looks fantastic in my opinion, too.

I'll try to explain.

Most of the green lines in the picture lead to the player's plane, these are the connections on which all the work of the mission depends. Therefore, you simply cannot assign a player to another plane. You have to use the player's current plane together with his flight, make a new route for him, re-establish the first flight without the player, rebuild all the time counts and much more. Such work can take from 30 to 70% of the time required to create the initial mission.
Anything is possible, but it is not easy and not fast.

Wow! So much more sophisticated missions! Not at all like taking a flight in the old Il-2's full mission builder and switching the 'player' flag from the escort fighter to the aircraft which is being escorted!
