AirWolves=CutCut Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 (edited) Finished mission 3 today. Lost my first wing man to a direct flak hit on the way to the target. I saw no parachute so I assume the flak killed him instantly. Video of the mission coming soon! Edited September 9, 2020 by AirWolves=CutCut 2 3
Gambit21 Posted September 10, 2020 Author Posted September 10, 2020 Wow - one in a million shot at that AI setting. That flak was put there mostly for effect.
Atomic_Spaniel Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 Hi All, I want to play this with as much historical accuracy as I can, so should I use 150 octane fuel and the gyro sight? I guess not, but I don't know the historical availability of either for this group of P-47s. Cheers, AS

Original version/vision had all 16 Jugs from Elwood attacking that field...however performance plummeted with all that logic and all those tracer streams. Was cool looking though. So a bit of rework and the other flights peeled off for other objectives and one of them got the morning off. Edited September 17, 2020 by Gambit21 1 1
GiftZahnsSteigern Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Well played, Gambit21. The first time I experienced one of these, the Flight Record shows I jumped about a foot out of my chair/CP. Really enjoying this. 5 2 1
Gambit21 Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 Thanks! It’s a little special effects invention of mine. I’m hoping for a LARGE explosion effect to employ as well in the future - fingers crossed. 4
Rjel Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 (edited) I've finally had a chance to start this campaign. I haven't read many comments in this thread so as to not spoil the experience of the missions and I'm not going to divulge much information in my comments here. But, after the first three missions all I can say is, well done. It's been very immersive thus far. A lot of ground movement on the airfield prior to takeoff and again when landing giving them a very lifelike feel. Mission three was a blast and lined up with many pilot accounts I've read through the years. After a successful completion of the mission's objective, I caught up with my flight, all of whom had survived. The flight was in formation as we started our let down through heavy overcast as we approached home base. I slid out a little from the number three A/C and went on instruments as everything went first white, then black as I was engulfed by cloud. Very cool. Coming out underneath my flight was right where is was supposed to be and we all successfully landed one by one. Circling the field as those ahead of me landed, was most enjoyable. All in all, a good hour and better spent flying what felt like a real life mission. This might be the most enjoyable mission I've flown in all my years of flying BoX. Good job Gambit. The money spent on this campaign so far feels like it was a bargain. I highly recommend it. Edited October 4, 2020 by Rjel Wording 1 1
Rjel Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 I don't know how you created the massive explosions I'm seeing in this campaign Gambit, but they are incredible. Watching replays, I'm seeing secondary explosions from the target area, sometimes followed by a third. Most impressive. 2

I did create some custom effects/explosions but that screen shot looks above and beyond.

BlueHeron Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 This is the best Great Battles campaign played so far. This time I really felt like I was participating in the war, the big picture. I could just imagine Easy Company fighting it out below me in Bastogne! And the atmosphere in those early morning and stormy missions will bring a tear to your eye. Elwood Blue.... lol, was Jake in a different squadron? 1 1
Gambit21 Posted October 16, 2020 Author Posted October 16, 2020 Thanks! Note: “Elwood” was the actual call-sign of the 388th sqdrn (365th FG) and was a nod to Gen Elwood “Pete” Quesada who was the commanding officer of IX TAC (9th Tactical Air Command) The forward ground controllers (pilots embedded with the tanks) and represented in this campaign, were thanks to him and increased the efficacy of CAS missions hugely. 2
BlueHeron Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Good to know, it's great that there are so many historical details packed into the campaign. Until this week I never knew there were forward air controllers in WWII!

johndw52 Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 Recently I purchased HELL HAWKS campaign on this store sight. It shows up in my account with key # included. Where in the world do I download it? I purchased BOS etc, including BOPp through Steam. I know its not a Steam product but for the life of me how do I download HHs? Thanks Johndw52
AndyJWest Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 You shouldn't need to download it anywhere. It should now enabled in-game when you start it up.
johndw52 Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 (edited) Thanks for your reply but in STEAM HHs show up in campaigns but is locked. When selected, it gives me the option to purchase it and I accept. I then click continue and nothing happens. I'm back at the same locked HHs screen. What am I doing wrong? Thanks again Johndw52 Edited October 29, 2020 by johndw52 highlight

DN308 Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 @Gambit21, is there a schedule concerning the update of the campaign? You told about putting some P47D22 along with D28.

You told about putting some P47D22 along with D28. It was a desire back then, but the reality now is that I don’t have time to go back and retrofit previous campaigns with new content, even if I did have the appropriate skin which I don’t. It would just be AI anyway since I can’t require ownership of Normandy ( for the D22/player) The juice isn’t worth the squeeze. I’m hard at work on other projects now so Hell Hawks is what it is, and now onwards to the next thing.
DN308 Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Thanks for the answer Hell hawks is wonderful and It’s not a big deal if we don’t have D22 1
TheWarsimmer Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Really enjoying the campaign thus far. Finished the 3rd mission this morning- striking the airfield. Rising above the clouds in formation on the return home was a lot of fun. Thanks for the hard work Gambit. 1 1
Livai Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 @Gambit21 is there a reason why the P-47 can't destroy this unarmored vehicle in the official release video???

Once in a while someone will have a hesitation in their line, like they are thinking for a second on what to say next. That alone makes it all sound more lifelike. Not stilted like someone’s just reading words on a page. They deserve a lot of credit for making the campaign feel alive. 1 1
JMan1512 Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Just tried the first mission, gotta echo what other have already said, the added radio chatter really does make a huge difference, think i'm going to really enjoy this campaign, great job, cheers. 1
GiftZahnsSteigern Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 (edited) Just Superb, Gambit21. The choice of that valley south of Spa, the arrangement of the combatant elements, and that damn tricky cloud ceiling........."Cool Beans", as you say. Amazing amount of work and skill to get all those parts working in such a challenging and satisfying manner. This is from Mission 8: Bulge 1. Those 8 Ma Deuce are quite the sight hosing down stuff, from a distance. In a subsequent Mission, an old friend puts in a cameo. Great surprise! I placed time stamps in the Comments Section to indicate sightings of my flight members. Edited November 27, 2020 by GiftZahnsSteigern clarification 1 1
Gambit21 Posted November 26, 2020 Author Posted November 26, 2020 Thanks! Where’s the rest of your flight?
jollyjack Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Y'all got me curious now, i just bought it. Still have to finish Kuban though ... po' me. Rest of the flight? A thing i often wonder occasionall when i set up a (properly?) configured group and some how the wingmen seem to disappear en route. Not always though ... Must be my old brain giving out.
