When Tobruk gets VR I'll buy it and play it. While it doesn't have VR I won't. To reiterate this as clearly as possible, play the game how you want. No-one is forcing you to buy a VR headset, but that's how it is for me. In point of fact all you can do at this point is to throw a tantrum. That doesn't impress anyone in a way that is favorable to you. Not everyone can afford the latest VR HMD and associated hardware even if they might like to. My guess is that funds generated through DW-T came mostly from "long haulers". They are critical to survival of Blitz so their desires are paramount. 5
Team Fusion Buzzsaw Posted December 19, 2020 Author Team Fusion Posted December 19, 2020 Ok Guys... lets tone down the discussion of VR and please avoid the personal comments. ? Bottom line: - We are not neglecting the other improvements in favour of VR. - VR is a goal which we are working towards. 11

We licensed the software approx. 13 months ago and only got full access to the support we needed at that time. And we created a proof of concept Alpha after about 2 months. We then put TrueSky development aside to complete TOBRUK. Otherwise TOBRUK would have been a 9 months later release. We only re-started work a few months ago. Plus as mentioned, Simul has changed the background programs which support TrueSky to new versions and updated which meant we needed to start again. Video Game Development is not a simple process, especially adapting new code to the core engine. For those who know absolutely nothing about coding and who have never worked on CoD's game data it may seem simple, but that would be a function of their lack of training and knowledge. --- And yes, the TrueSky update will be free to game owners. 1 1 9

John_The_Bodge Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 I finally bought this today - I had held off because (here goes that VR thing again) although I have flown on my monitor with a couple of flight sims since I got VR in 2016 - such as IL-2 1946, which I also got working in VR, I just can't enjoy it any more, it feels too restrictive. On the other hand I've been desparate for the nice, clear terrain graphics you can currently only get in high quality in 2D, which is one of the reasons I did some flights on the monitor, with my old TrackIR, which is now falling to pieces and as a VR pilot I just can't justify another TrackIR unit - even though I have the bits to make one myself, the motivation is lacking for the same reasons I don't find 2D flying fun. I tried CloD acouple of years ago on the monitor and had the same issues - I daren't venture into combat at the time and just did a few airfield circuits in the Hurricane with touch & goes. I really struggled, not to fly, but with confidence due to the lack of situational awareness that in pre-VR years I wouldn't have thought twice about. I also do some monitor flying for my website screenshots, but that's just free flight stuff for a few minutes. One thing that does motivate me to fly on the monitor is learning new aircraft - so difficult to do in VR (due to limitations of accessing reference material) and one of the main reasons I did my website series for IL-2 GB, DCS and the civvy sims. It would be a huge help to that end, if we had the possibility for customisable kneeboards in IL-2 of all flavours. I hope that I will be able to have a go on my monitor at some stage, it looks really excellent, and if not, then hopefully there will be a possibility to fly it in VR before I'm too old and decrepid. Having racked up many thousands of hours in each major flight sim sim since 1985, I'm logging nowhere near as many hours these days - it gets to us all eventually! Some sooner than others. Blimey, if you had told me then what we would have available to us now, I would never have believed it.

A little couch time might help you cope with the immense strain of coming back from VR into the 2d world of combat flight simming. It sounds so traumatic, I don't know how you are coping, but keep up your valiant efforts because CLOD DWs-Tobruk is worth it, VR or not. I just have one question. I have owned every TIR version since the first one was released, I have given away 2 of my previous versions which are still working to this very day and I own TIR5 now. How is it that your TIR "is falling to pieces"? I mean, it sits on your monitor or on a shelf and does nothing but bathe you in infrared light and reads 3 reflectors returning some of the infrared signal, all controlled through software? If it is your track clip pro, then you can get a new standard hat clip for 9.95, which honestly works just as good if not better than the track clip pro. At any rate, keep up your brave effort to endure the punishing world of 2D simming. You are a real inspiration for all of those that are thinking of trying DWs-Tobruk in the old school world of 2D simming. Thanks for being a pioneer in this brave journey! S! S!Blade<>< 1 1 1

=RS=Funkie Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 Hey @Buzzsaw seeing the patch notes coming through for the updates, I'm loving the attention to detail and the historical accuracy. That's fantastic, and makes me excited every time I read through. May I ask how the truesky system is coming along? It's been a while since I've seen any updates on this. I understand it's a big task.

I understand it's a big task. We are working as hard as we can on the trueSKY implementation. We have not been unaffected by this Covid situation. We just had one of our key guys go down with it about three weeks ago... he is recovering and should be fine. Other TF members have had effects on their ability to work and contribute... and others have had family concerns. trueSKY will be done, just not clear at this point when. On a positive note, the work on the new Maps, the new 3D modeling of aircraft and other objects is proceeding well. No we can't be specific at this point, Jason will make an announcement, hopefully in the next few weeks. 8 4 1

We are working on multiple new maps simultaneous so as to speed up the process. These maps will not necessarily be all released with the next module. (TF 6.0) I can't say what areas these maps cover right now. We will hopefully have details on this subject and others related to TF's plans in a few weeks. The terrain tiles on the new maps will be done in 4k.... the older maps whose areas are not done in 4k are being updated to 4k. 8 2 2
=RS=Funkie Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 Wow! This stuff sounds incredibly exciting. Covid has been so destabilizing, I hope your team can navigate a safe path through it. Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the announcement in the coming weeks.
OBT-Voss Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 Buzzsaw any news about the support of simshaker wings ? Will I have the chance to have my Forcefeel working on TFS this year ? Thanks for the superb work you are doing with your Team.

Hello Voss We are at this point focusing all our coding efforts on trueSKY and VR. After those code changes are completed, we will certainly look at improving Force Feedback.

Feathered_IV Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 It’s been a while since I checked in. Wasn’t there some sort of cloud improvement announced a year or so ago? I think I recall a tasty screenshot of that at some point. Is it still a thing?
Thundercracker Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 (edited) Still a thing, but nothing new. Although someone did post an old true sky screenshot I hadn't seen before in the arguments.... I mean announcements sub forum. edit: just tried to find it for you, links dead ? Edited July 10, 2021 by Thundercracker
