TDK1044 Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 So, if I've followed the route using the autopilot and the way points, and then I engage with enemy planes and use up my ammo and start to make my way back to base, is there a way to now use the final way point back to base, because the other unused way points are now redundant? Stalingrad has an 'Autolevel' function where you can point the plane towards your home base and then use the 'Autolevel' function to stay on course and head home. Just wondering.
danielprates Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 (edited) IIRC here in CloD the only autopilot you get is the one that historically existed in the specific airplane you are flying. Bf110s for instance only have an auto-course setting and it is up to you to keep it level manually as you see fit, for instance, trimming the elevator. Some will have a full autopilot but you have to learn how it actually worked in real life, and indeed, the specific buttons/knobs/dials etc. in the cockpit can be interacted with the mouse. Aircraft that historically had no autopilot feature, will have no auto-anything ingame. GB's system is easier on the wrist as you can auto-level any plane with the click of a button, but is historically incorrect as many planes had no autopilot at all and the ones that had, well, it was more complicated than just pressing 'auto-level' somewhere on the cockpit. A purist can choose to not use it at all. Both games choose different styles, it is just the way they are. I am not advocating any as the 'best'. CloD, with all its claimed 'flaws', seems to be a bit more 'study-level' when it comes to autopilot systems. Now, as for radio nav, I can't remember if CloD has it, if it is functional... can anybody else answer this? I a curious too. Edited August 12, 2020 by danielprates
Sokol1 Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 (edited) No, AI autopilot will follow waypoint's set on mission, and is the only option for fighters, unless you put plane in direction of home - ask heading for "ground controller' in "radio" (in TAB-7-2) and careful trim de plane for ~straight level, and use accelerated time command. In Bombers you can use the "Kursteuerung" an mechanical autopílot capable of keep altitude, heading and can have heading "pre-programmed". Quote IIRC here in CloD the only autopilot you get is the one that historically existed in the specific airplane you are flying. Note really due "historic factor", Blenheim, Br.20 modeled in the game don't have autopilot, but for MP convenience - make bombers run more viable, receive the "Kursteuerung" of German bombers. TDK1044 Posted August 12, 2020 Author Posted August 12, 2020 I was just being greedy. Thanks for the responses. ?
sallee Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 I was interested in this, because there is no "Level autopilot" by name in Cliffs. What do people do if they want to act as bomb-aimer? If you use autopilot, does it carry out all functions including dropping the bombs in spite of your best efforts to drop them when you want? In GB you can engage Level Autopilot and take your time with your aiming duties. I was sure you could do this before in Cliffs.
ITAF_Airone1989 Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 (edited) @sallee you can find explanation for each aircraft in the cards. Here H-111 "Course mode" will just keep the heading, while you can still change your altitude. "Mode 22" keep heading and altitude. Edited August 13, 2020 by ITAF_Airone1989 1
sallee Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Thanks very much! I know there are some "course autopilot" commands in the control options. Are they just for binding keys for the He 111?
ITAF_Airone1989 Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Some is clickable, some other no. Check it here: https://k2s.cc/file/37f60c8610961/Flashcards_All Aircraft-en - v.2.pdf (You can also find this in the game manual)
TDK1044 Posted August 13, 2020 Author Posted August 13, 2020 'Autolevel' would be an easy mod if there was enough demand for it. ?
Sokol1 Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 1 hour ago, sallee said: I know there are some "course autopilot" commands in the control options. Are they just for binding keys for the He 111? The "course autopilot" commands will work for all bombers of the game - although for some (Blenheim, Br. 20) is a non-historical concession for easy the live of (virtual) bombardier. 1
markltuc Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 Has anyone had a problem with the Bf 110 rudders locking after engaging and disengaging "Course autopilot"? I have no rudder control after autopilot is turned off. Regards Mark
