mrtomek999 Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 (edited) It's not a mod yet, I would only like to know what do you think about this idea to colour the scales a bit to simplify reading some important information (characteristic speeds, max temp etc.) If I have some other parameters (fuel/oil pressures, carburetor temp.) I will mark this also. Personally I find this very useful when I fly (and also nice looking) so that's why I started experimenting with it. Edited July 20, 2020 by mrtomek999 4 1
=VARP=Klingon Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Nice, that will help a lot with quick look on instruments!
Dutch2 Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Great , but only on the 4k instruments from @Oyster_KAI because I’m not going back to that fuzzy looking stock instruments. Think if you ask him he will gladly work with you. 1
mrtomek999 Posted July 21, 2020 Author Posted July 21, 2020 (edited) I forgot add that I am currently using 4k cockpits from @Oyster_KAI (my photos are in low quality). I figured out that unfortunately some aircrafts use the same file (with gauges) as template, so it's not possible to do with all aircraft. Another example: Now Pe-2 and La-5FN Edited July 23, 2020 by mrtomek999 1
J2_Oelmann Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I would change the cockpit texture like you just made a mark with red paint next to the dial on the dashboard. Would be a quick and easy fix in real life.
Semor76 Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Strange idea...I thought modding a WW2 flight sim would lead to more historical accuracy, not the opposite. But what do I know? This is the modding section,so each to his own.

The engine RPM gauge has the time limit duration hand written to the appropriate indicated RPM and the airspeed instrument has the heights hand written against the max safe airspeed applicable too those heights. The dash looks to be a 109. 2

Jade_Monkey Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Here is another example in color: P-47D "Norma" from the New England Air Museum. It flew with the Peruvian air force after the war, so I don't know if the gauges are from WWII, but it's possible.

And here is what we have in-game: I find colour markings very useful, and the idea was not unknown, even though it was rarely realised systematically back then (possibly due to technical reasons). I'm for it.
Jade_Monkey Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 The in-game colors are definitely muted and pretty hard to see without zooming in. That kind of defeats the purpose of the colors which was to be able to tell at a quick glance. I'm not saying they should be as bright as the pic I posted but probably more vivid than the current version.

Mind you, the La-5 is much worse...

It's a general FOV/scale/visuals problem. Thing is that not only the colours are hard to read, but most of the instruments as well. I wouldn't mind faded colors if I could see the needle without zooming in. If you need SA, you need a wide FOV, and if you have a wide FOV, you're watching the dashboard from too far away.
VampireNZ Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Great idea - however I would probably tone down the colours so they are not so 'vivid' if you know what I mean. The green and red blocks in the temp gauges are pretty bright for example. Just a thought - might help make them look a bit more 'period correct'.
