[DBS]Browning Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Does anyone know which planes do not have tracer rounds in their loadouts? I know the MiG-3 doesn't. It baffles me why any pilot would want tracers. Even if they assist in aiming a little, they can be seen far, far more easily than your plane. It's a sure fire way to attract every enemy in a 5+ km radius.
Vortice Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Tracers and aircraft lights are ridiculously, ludicrously over-bright in this sim. You would need to ask the developers why, because it makes no sense to me. 7
Lusekofte Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 (edited) P 47 in DCS can be chosen without tracers. It is a deathtrap shooting groundtargets. So I dont Edited July 19, 2020 by 216th_LuseKofte
=621=Samikatz Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 The BoM Soviet aircraft lack tracers on some guns to emulate the low supply of tracer ammo in 1941, iirc. I think it's the 20mms on the I-16 and Il-2?
[DBS]Browning Posted July 19, 2020 Author Posted July 19, 2020 Shame you can't disable them. I'm certain real pilots would not have used them if they gave so much disadvantage as they do in IL2 GB. 1
Guest deleted@134347 Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 (edited) mig3 (Shvak) and la-5 (AP blue ammo). And I love shooting tracerless ammo specifically because of the visual FX on the enemy plane. It looks the closest to all those gun cam footage reels when the enemy plane just gets covered with puffs of smoke/debris ... Edited July 19, 2020 by Didney_World
rieper_420 Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 (edited) Hello everybody, Maybe I can help here.. if you guys fly with mods on: Then there is the possibility to change / dim your tracer color: (I updated Mitthrawnuruodo's awesome Multicolored Tracer mod a while ago - thanks a lot Mitthrawnuruodo!!!) 1. Download the mod: http://www.mediafire.com/file/3gnwk8oayedwdk8/Multicoloured_Tracers_V1.2.zip (see also here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/35609-mod-multicoloured-tracers/ => I wrote a guide how to edit stuff manually...) 2. Go to the mod subfolder: Multicoloured Tracers_V1.2\data\graphics\ammo\textures 3. => look for the .bmp files and reduce brightness... save bmp files and you should be good to go. I guess if you reduce the brightness to 0 (black) then the tracer should be invisible... never tried it out though.. Please note that this will also affect AAA tracer color, so you will need to change those to some "not dimmed tracer color" if you want to see the AAA tracers still brightly... 4. If you also want to get rid of the smoke effect: Example: Goto file: "Multicoloured Tracers_V1.2\data\luascripts\worldobjects\ballistics\projectiles\shell_ger_20x82_ap.txt" Change: VisualImage=0,"graphics/ammo/ammobacsmk.mgm",false to:===> VisualImage=0,"graphics/ammo/ammobac.mgm",false (removing the "smk" will remove the smoke trail ? ) I hope I was able to explain it in an understandable way. You can also post tracer requests, it takes me more time writing this description than editing tracer colors ? Best regards Rieper Edited July 19, 2020 by rieper_420 wording
Cpt_Siddy Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Setting mig shavks on 600m with no tracer ammo is wonderful thing.

I think it's the 20mms on the I-16 and Il-2? Correct, and also the MiG-3. Tracer ammo was not made for the ShVAK in 1941. It's discussed somewhere in a changelog here. Edited July 19, 2020 by LukeFF

Real pilots didnt have to worry about them as they are not so bright in real world during day time, like Vortice posted its same problem as with nav lights that you can see from space during daytime in this game, its devs problem to fix brightnes of stuff like that if this game aim is to be sim. =gRiJ=Roman- Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 We need different ammo belts! It will make it more interesting, Ap, Explosive, incendiaries, etc 1
J2_Oelmann Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I allways liked the ammunition screen in Clod for this reason. 1
