Hello fellow pilots!

I'm using oculus rift CV1 and i have always been suffered from the shaky view. I'm just wondering if i'm the only one to experience this and is this a problem or just a normal feature in VR.

The shaking is more notable when zooming in and it makes hard to identify planes.

If i take the headset off the shaking stops and the picture is smooth.

I uploaded video on youtube to demonstrate this.

My rift is on the table for the whole video so it's firmly in place.

In the beginning of the video the headset is in the "sleep mode" and as you can see the picture is smooth. At 0:10 i put my hand front of the censor of the headset so it starts tracking and the shaking starts. Headset is still on the table so it's not moving at all.

So what do you think? Is this something that can be fixed or is this just a normal thing in CV1 or maybe in all headsets?

My specs:

I-5 9600K @ 4.8GHz

GTX 1060 6GB

16GB DDR4

That does not look normal to me.

Definitely not normal.  Is this behavior present in other titles or just in IL2?

I have a CV1 and that is not normal behavior.

Did you troublecheck on Oculus to make sure everything is setup properly?, are all your software up to date?

I would try unplugging and re-plugging all the USB connections, might be an issue with one of the USB ports.

It looks like some glitch is sending incorrect data which shows up as head movement. I have seen similar behavior with joysticks.

Not just IL-2, all games act same. It's just most noticeable in IL-2 because you have to identify a small target in distance.

I was hoping to get respond from someone who has the same headset so thank you!

Everything is set up properly and all softwares are up to date.

I tried to unplug and re-plug all of my usb connections, no difference.

That glitch you mentioned could be true but i dont know what would be causing it.

I have changed my MB, CPU and RAM a while ago and it has been always like this. The problem cant be in the headset because couple months ago i sent it for repair (for a broken ribbon cable) and got new refurbished rift and it's not the same that i sent to the oculus.

@Sgt_Joch If you please, could you ensure that yours not doing the same by placing the headset on stable platform and opening SteamVR and SteamVR mirror. When you place your hand inside of the headset and front of the censor that detects when the headset is on your head, is your picture still smooth and not jittery like mine?

Basically all VR headsets are incredibly sensitive to anything being 'wrong' with the USB. I didn't realize this, but USB specifications are a dog's breakfast, and if you try to do anything more complicated than a mouse or a webcam, you might have problems depending on the USB port, the motherboard chipset, and the drivers.

If you can, try putting the two (?) CV1 sensors onto different USB ports, maybe even one onto a USB 2.0 port instead of 3.0. That will reduce the data rate from one of the cameras. You might have better or worse luck on a USB port that is directly on the motherboard back panel vs one that is on the front panel, etc etc.

For my CV1 I ended up buying an addon USB card that was recommended and reported to work, but I still had some driver issues.

I have the same headset (I think) and the same issue. Disabling 'Camera Shake' in the options seemed to fix it a bit, but the problem still remains. Will do the fixes in this thread, but it started happening with one of the IL-2 updates, so perhaps it's something on the game side.

I have the same problem with my CV1 when using steam vr. I have been using open composite and do not have the shaking.

I also experienced the same problem but only very recently; possibly with the most recent steam VR updates. Opencomposite works fine.
