Recently got a pc upgrade and re-downloaded Photoshop but I got a new dds plugin and I'm not exactly sure what settings to use. I'm used to an older plugin that had everything I needed already set up.

Any help or link to another plugin?

Did you download the stand alone tool, or the Photoshp plugin?

I see there are two versions on the download site. Maybe you got the stand alone version.

I'm using the older version found here:

https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload#?dn=texture-tools-for-adobe-photoshop-8-55

and this are the settings i use to save as .dds:

Now that you posted this new tool, maybe I'll give it a try.  It looks interesting and it's new. The version i have is really old.

Plugin version. Not sure if it's the plugin or I'm just doing something wrong, my textures seem a bit too pixelated. Gonna download from the link you posted and try again.

There are two versions of this older tool. 32bit and 64bit. If your Photoshop is the 64bit version, get the 64bit tool.

Edit

Now that i looked better at your screenshot, i think you may need to change the compression from  fastest to something else. Try the highest quality. it will take quite a bit longer to save, but the old tool takes a long time to save as well.

I have it installed and tried it, but I didn't like the quality of the .DDs file it generated. I switched back to the tool Nvidia released.

I'm curious, your said is due the quality of the pixels or more relative with the alpha handle and colors? because I only tried this cause I had an AMD car.. I don't now if I can use another to compare.. I did compare with other skins generated by other users using the nvidea plugin and I had found that some colors are a little bit different... but can be manage during the design and alpha generation I think

I don't remember exactly what it was. I tried it back in November-December, right after Cpu, Mobo, RAM and Windows upgrade.

I remember I looked at two skins i saved side by side and I liked the Nvidia saved version better.

You can install the Nvidia tool as well. They coexist without issues. You just select the tool you want to save with, from the "save as" menu.

@Legioneod

I just performed a system wipe and reinstalled Win10 myself in prep for MSFS 2020 and have been downloading games, updates as well as PS and also came across this major update to their Texture Tools Suite. Which was long overdue by the way!

I'm sure you've resolved this but others may have not.

What format to choose?  -  You'll always want to select BC3-RGBA-8bpp as the file type to save the DDS in. This is your DXT5 file set, compression format and ratio IL-2, DCS, P3D, XP etc utilize as well as the proper alpha (interpolated) export. You can leave Mips on or turn them off, that's ultimately up to you.
