Team Fusion Buzzsaw Posted July 10, 2020 Team Fusion Posted July 10, 2020 (Thanks to Preystalker for this explanation) ---- Microsoft don't really advertise the fact, but changing your current system from W7 to W10 is easy and free ! Download the W10 Update Assistant... https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3159635/windows-10-update-assistant Let it do it's thing. It just needs an hour or more depending on how much data you have and your hard disk speed. When it finishes, you're on W10 and all your documents and files are still there - Magic ! ( Back up important stuff, just in case) Then watch any 10 minute Youtube video "how to optimise W10". You can turn off many things that are unnecessary and it runs fast and light. My laptop and my gaming rig used to be W7. Now they both run fine with W10. No regrets.
jollyjack Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 (edited) Great tip. If i'd known; bought 3 win10 licenses some time ago. There's a lot of tuning to do with Win10 (pro, home). I used some tools, EdgeBlock, OOshutup, and best of all ClassicShell, latter makes similar to Win7. However i had a gaming PC running Win 10 LTSB. Far less MS bloatware and update related problems. Had to change that to LTSC as LTSB was no longer updated, and NVDIA drivers were not working on LTSB. Now i reinstalled LTSC fresh on my work laptop and PC too; i will NOT look back, LTSC (64bit) for me LoL. Edited August 3, 2020 by jollyjack
LLv34_Flanker Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 S! Running Win10 Pro. There are tweaks etc. one could do to gain more performance. I once wished the Game Mode would be such a tool that simply ends all processes and services that are not needed for gaming. But was wrong Any basic tips how to slim down Win 10?

jollyjack Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 PS i never regretted getting Windows LTSC (enterprise) instead of Pro, it has not screwed up my system so far and as usual with Pro for the last 3 months .. I had LTSB running stable for over 2 years on one PC. Bought the license then for some 30$ on eBay. With 10-Pro you cannot turn off Windows update, as it s always reactivated automatically, even if you use the windows update switch tool, or set update services to off and/or disable it in GPedit .. It looks like microsoft uses paying home and pro users for unwilling beta-testing. Tip: Some times you can get a license for LTSC on ebay quite cheap coming from disassembled business PCs. Maybe not as LTSC is about two years old now and you cannot upgrade LTSB to LTSC needed for NVIDIA i found out. Can be a fishy business though. Those licenses were usually bulk- owned by large companies, who kept them alive out of disinterest? But if it shows Windows is activated after installation usually there's no problem there. Ebay offers money back guaranties usually. PS don't upgrade from Win10 Pro but do a fresh install, always better.
LLv34_Flanker Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 S! @jollyjack Thanks for info. Going thru the services and other performance things. I do not use WiFi or Bluetooth, so those can go etc. Nice guides.
SNAPKronovanX Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 I did the free upgrade from Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate to Windows 10 in early January. It went off without a hitch and migrated my settings perfectly. After hearing the struggles some of my siming buddies had with the upgrade back in 2015 & 16, I'm glad I waited. 1
