Turning GPS on/off

Is there a way to toggle the black position marker for your plane on and off? I'd quite like to practice navigation properly, while keeping the red enemy markers on, because I suck at identifying planes, use VR, so it's more difficult, and other lame excuses, but it's what I want to do.

I can turn off the black marker and ALL identifying markers by toggling "navigation markers" in the difficulty settings, but was rather hoping there might be a setting hidden away somewhere that makes me navigate properly, but still be able to identify enemies (and friendlies) easily.

In realism settings, turn object markers on, navigation markers off.

Don't think you can toggle nav. markers on and off during flight.

But you can turn objects markers on AND off while flying, hidding the black Market for your plane (GPS)

So, turn markers off, default i, open map, check map, close map, turn markers on

Respectfully, you can turn in game icons off and on, not Object markers or Navigation markers with the [ i ] key.

I think @Shakey60 provided the correct answer to the OP's question. If you do not want the black airplane symbol on your map but still want the red and blue symbols, the have Object markers checked and Navigation markers unchecked.

While Navigation markers checked...

Many thanks, that nailed it.

Some liberal hammering of the I and H keys was necessary for me to get exactly what I wanted, but I discovered what Busdriver said.

Thanks again for your help

I respect any persons preferences.
I aknowledge and appreciate seeing the joy and enthusiasm for this game no matter how he likes it.
you will find identifying a plane very easy after a while. Take sessions in qmb no and then without markers. 8 planes on each side. And you find it easy after a while to differ friend and foe. And its really no harm mistake in that mode. Happy flying my friend

Sorry to necro bump the thread, but is there a way to keep waypoint markers on, and everything else, including my plane off?

I thought object markers would have included the player plane as well, but it looks like it does not.

Whaddaya know. Unchecking navigation markers does exactly that. Turns players plane off, while keeping the route lines and waypoints on the map.

The wording is really threw me off. I was expecting players plane to be an “object” too.
