Missionbug Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 The Spitfire is a outstanding model, cannot believe you guys are so far advanced with it. Hard to imagine the dinky little warplane we had in 1939 turned into such a beast, the late models look almost too big for their boots, hard to imagine how anyone can control such a machine, that undercarriage will I fear create much devilment for those of us trying to land and taxi it. Thank you very much for the update, really appreciated. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Bremspropeller Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 The cool thing about the XIV is that you'll now do the donuts into the opposite direction, so on average you'll be going straight... 5

This and can we dispense with the clipping of such a beautiful birds wings - please?? Yes, yes I know - there are some benefits but it ruins those gorgeous rounded lines.

Ptolemy_Soter Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 15 hours ago, Lythronax said: @Jason_Williams A bit of model pedantry, but it appears the ailerons are too long? The XIV was a development of the Mk VII/VIII airframe which was only tangentially related to the Mk IX, and had shorter span ailerons (1 rib shorter) The model seems to have the Mk IX ailerons: Otherwise this model is perfect, and 100% the best Griffon Spitfire I've seen. Nice catch ! Spit IXe suffered the same type of error (postwar wings) before its offical realease and the 3D model was fixed. So fingers crossed ! A little question about the fuel tanks. I've read that the plane was fitted with an extra fuel tank in the rear fuselage by late 1944. Will it be possible to have this in game to fly Bondenplatte scenarios ? 1
chris455 Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 Will the Spit XIV be free or do we need to purchase it?

Bernard_IV Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 (edited) Looks great. I am hoping for a clipped wing version. I would buy another collector plane to get a bubble canopy as well. Edited July 4, 2020 by Bernard_IV 1
PatrickAWlson Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 Great addition. Gives the British a plane that is right up there with the 190D and 109K without being over the top. Curious: what was the availability of the XIV. Reading this site: http://www.spitfireperformance.com/spit14v109.html If this information is correct then it seems like roll out was quite slow. First squadron operational in January 1944 and the rollout seems to continue almost for a year, with replacement not completed until the end of the war. Guessing engine production was the hold up? Did IVs serve side by side with older types or was squadron conversion immediate? Looks like the latter.

Blitzen Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 I am betting take off, landing, and ground handling is going to present some challenges with this new bird...
=CFC=Conky Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 Hello all, In IL2: 1946 the Griffon-engines Spits are fast but not very maneuverable and depart controlled flight easily, I wonder what the BoN version will be like. Good hunting, CFC Conky
-332FG-Fear Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 Beautiful work, I see the griffon powered spitfire and the mosquito becoming two of my main allied aircraft once they are released

CountZero Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 (edited) Im not fan of bubble canopy version, visability is preaty good without it already, cliped wings would be welcomed do Edited July 4, 2020 by CountZero 2
Oyster_KAI Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 When we seriously look at the torque brought by the griffon engine, it would be great if we could also receive updates to other aircraft equipped with powerful engines. I hope this SIM can be more demanding on the torque simulation, so we need to be more careful when taking off and we must press the joystick to the right. If the throttle movement is too large in the air, it can also bring some punishment = shaking caused by torque, it is really great. 3

Hey Pat, 610 Squadron were the first to convert in December of 1943, based in SW England in 10 Group from January 1944 and moving to West Malling in June to face the V-1 threat, the moved to the continent in the autumn. 91 Squadron were the 2nd unit, they got theirs from the end of February, based at Castle Camps but after a stint in Drem went south for operations in April based out of West Malling. With the end of the V-1 campaign they stayed in the uk, converting to the IX, their XIVs going to another unit bound for the continent. The third unit was 322 Squadron based at Hawkinge when they converted in March of 1944. Similarly they gave them up in August for IXs. 402 Sqn RCAF re-equipped with XIVs in August (possibly those from 91 Sqn) and in September moved to the continent to join 126 Wing. 350 Squadron has a similar history, moving to the continent and 2nd TAF in December. 41 Squadron replaced their Mk XIIs with XIVs in September of 1944 and also moved to the continent in December. Bremspropeller Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 It does require a bit of rudder on T/O and climb... 1

Bullets Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Well news on the spitfire is certainly a pleasant surprise! Will she be getting a bubble canopy? Most pictures I’ve seen of IVX’s had them but I don’t know how common they were! They do certainly complete the look and function of a late war spit though...
FTC_ChilliBalls Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Will the Spitfire XIV be done from scratch like the FW 190 D9, Tempest Mk V and Yak 9? I would love to fly a Spitfire with such a cockpit with comparable quality to these. 1
Jameswildwood Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Cant wait for this one !!!! Teardrop and clipped wings please!!! Still overawed with the Yak 9T ?. This sim is AWESOME!!! thanks Devs.
ScotsmanFlyingscotsman Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 The MK XIV was the first Spit I ever got into, airshow at RAF Leuchars, 14 years old....but 6'3". aircrew guy doing who was helping kids in and out for the photo told me no adults, My Mum had to come from the crowd he didn't believe I was 14,lol. He told me to stop growing if I was ever to fit into a Lightning. I was surprised how claustraphobiic it was with the bubble cockpit canopy brought forward and how HUGE the wings looked, got my piccy and was dead chuffed to be given a minute or two longer, what a nice man ! God Bless him. Been lucky and had a couple of minutes in others. I take my hat off to ALL who flew any of the WW2 types, you really felt alone in there. we owe them all a debt of gratitude. Yep I'll be buying this one 4 2

Ribbon Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 How common were clipped wings on Griffon Spit (one we're going to get), anyone? I sure hope we're going to get that modification (i'm very shallow person, outside look matter the most to me)!
