Credit for this mission set goes to MattS who had pointed out the difficulties and considerations in taking on a flight of Stukas in the P-47D-28.

The idea of these missions is pretty simple and challenging but has some fun embellishments:  Take on a flight of 4 Ju-87's, single-handed.  You start out on the same heading with an altitude advantage, the Stukas will be at your low 10 o'clock.   Can you get them all?

The embellishments:

1. The original challenge was to use the P-47 to take them out, but I wanted to try a couple of other planes and that's where things, well, kind of got out of hand.  Turns out you can learn so much about a particular plane and gun combination doing this, that I ended making 21 different versions of the mission using these aircraft:

  • A-20B Havoc
  • I-16 Type 24
  • IL-2 AM-38F (model 1943)
  • La-5 Series 8
  • La-5FN Series 2
  • LaGG-3 Series 29
  • MC.202 Series VIII <---  (I know,. not an Allied plane, but I couldn't resist the sexy allure)
  • MiG-3 Series 24
  • P-38J-25
  • P-39L-1
  • P-40E-1
  • P-47D-28
  • P-51D-15
  • Spitfire Mk.VB
  • Spitfire Mk.IXE
  • Tempest Mk.V
  • Yak-1 Series 69
  • Yak-1 Series 127
  • Yak-7b Series 36
  • Yak-9 series 1
  • Yak-9T series 1

2. All aircraft have custom loadouts, described in each mission briefing, and are more or less "loaded for bear" with extra guns ammo, mirrors, 150 octane fuel, broadswords, flamethrowers etc. where available. Also a radio beacon receiver where available so you can find your way to your home airfield when your pilot gets shot up and half-blinded, because...

3. Your home airfield of Yantar has a Repair,. Refuel and Re-Arm (also Re-Heal) capability.  Upon landing,  the ground crew will pop green smoke near the RRR hangar.  Taxi up next to it and follow the usual instructions.   Of course, strict rules of the Stuka Dogfight Challenge imply you should take them all out without the need to re-arm, but let's be realistic:  they need to die regardless of the circumstances.

Sounds like a gas, don't it?  You're darn right, it is, so here's the link to download:

This is a really excellent set of missions which I highly recommend.  it is fascinating contrasting the performance of each fighter (and your own survivability - or not!).  The re-arm/repair and green smoke is a brilliant addition!

Well done and many thanks.

Thank you for the very kind comments and feedback - I'm stoked that you like 'em.   To give credit where it"s due, the idea to use smoke to identify a RRR area is something I read about on a thread around here - I believe something @Alonzo came up with for Combat Box.  Seemed to make sense!
