Will buy it. A sucker for Star Wars. Empire brings peace and stability. Rebels are troublemakers and outlaws that need to be eradicated.

It must be my sosialist upbringing making me remember it differently

I've always been a soldier of the Empire for many years... This was taken on my first patrol on Endor.

The "rebel" leaders want to bind you under their will, so that you could be more easily controlled.

The "rebel" leaders fear your hate because the hate can break you free of their control, and make you to be more than a mere sheep, needing protection from the shepherd. Hate is a natural feeling, there is nothing to fear on it. Clones can not feel hate, and that is what "rebel" leaders want you to be, hidden by a miraculous promise of "diversity" and "freedom". You can paint a clone any color you like, but it is still just a clone, and how can a clone ever be free. So, feel the hate, bravely, and break free. There is nothing to fear for.

Man, this thread is a roller coaster of trying to guess what's going on.

Surprisingly good price for a new AAA title release, I'm guesing this will be very episodic. Hopefully it ends up being a kind of freelancerish game.

Anyway, Pilto One, standing by!

I hope there is a way to disable the markers on-screen for objectives and/or enemies. Space battle games become boring quickly when it's just "follow the arrow to this thing to blow up, follow the arrow to the next thing to blow up", etc

Edit - someone replied to me in the comments on PCGamer and said you could turn the markers off.

But a wise man once said:“only imperial stormtroopers are so precise“

and he said that to prove it couldn’t have been tusken raiders (which in turn are the guys, that hit small 600 km/h podracers at 90 degree deflection in 900m distance with single shot rifles!)

From what little I’ve seen this looks very well done. I’m not a big Star Wars fan- liked the first few movies but got burned out once they started pumping out all sorts of stuff to monetize as much as possible.

Is this just space ship fighting or does it also include FPS elements? I cannot play any sort of FPS as I get motion sick.

I may be tempted to buy this if it’s just spaceship combat. Looks like it could be mindless destructive fun.

Star Wars is an amalgamation of WW2 films, Samurai films and Spaghetti Westerns set long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Except for the sequel trilogy, fuck the sequel trilogy.

I watched jackfrag's youtube video of first few missions, which confirmed my hunch: that's yet another space-sim which fell victim to a dreaded "Descent" syndrome (look-up "Descent" PC game). By this I mean slow movement speed, and following obtrusive HUD to rotate your spaceship on target. Rinse and repeat. Doesn't feel like Star Wars spacefighters at all as they were portrayed in the movies, with their breathtaking sense of speed, and movement patterns similar to WW2 fighters.  Even in more open spaces where the Descent syndrome was less prevalent, the gameplay was still reduced to "twitch and fire", "twitch and fire", repeat  ad nauseam. Sorry, but that's just boring, because unlike well-implemented sims such as IL-2 there is little planning, energy/systems management or flying/gunning skill involved. Just a chaotic battle, where reflexes of a 15-year old trump everything else. I still have some hope for the game, if rudder support is implemented well and it is actually feasible to fly full missions HUD-less (not likely from what I have seen so far).

The whole thing is pretty meh to be honest. Played for a couple of hours and I'm bored already. It's a 3 star game at best. The campaign is laughable, whatever hack wrote and directed it should be cast into a Sarlac pit. Multiplayer is fun. The UI is disgusting, The controls seem to be more about meta building your ship and managing shields/lasers/engine than actual flying skill.

If you're not a huge fan of the franchise, wait until it's on sale.

Thanks for the review. I had somewhat expected the same.

And then, there's the control issues...that are popping up all over the place...

Edit: got it fixed within certain likeable parameters. HOWEVER, considering that a lot of people have hotas setups and the amount of threads on the steam forums where people report calibration/dead zone issues....this seems something that should have come up in testing for a title of this calibre. Really really weird, now that I think some more about it..

I watched some YouTube videos. Didn’t really jump out at me as something I gotta get.

Sort of reminds me of the old Wing Commander games I played for hours back in the days just substitute cats for Stormpilots or whatever you call them.

LOL

I want to know who

A. Makes Stormtrooper armor and what it's advertised efficacy is against blaster hits. (does it resist them or amplify them because it seems like the latter)

B. Who the Imperial procurement officer is who keeps buying from this source.

Game is a pass at any price sale or otherwise - no surprise.

Anyone with this found a way to get Trackir to work?  I want to see if there is a workaround before I buy it, otherwise it's a no from me.

Cheers

Well, glad I didn't buy it... if problems, gameplay etc get improved, trackIR added in the future, I may get it in a sale.

Months ago when it was found that you would be grinding the game to get better parts and systems, cosmetics like dangly bits of rubbish adorning your cockpit, fancy uniforms for your pilot... I just knew ''this is not the game I was looking for''

The title is cheap for a "AAA" game. However, It is probably because at this point Disney have ruined a once great franchise and enthusiasm for all things Star Wars are nosediving unless you are a die hard fan. The Mandalorian has some potential but that is just a rehash of the manga, Lone Wolf and Cub by Kazuo Koike. Just like Star wars is heavily based on the Hidden Fortress with the Dam busters thrown in for good measure.

20 years ago I would probably been enthusiastic about a game like this, now it's just meh.

Edit: I will pass a mile wide ?

That is INSANE.

What this needed to be was X-Wing V. Tie Fighter 2020. Looks like another swing and a miss.

I won't get a chance to try it till later on in the day, early golf game this morning.

Anxious to see it in VR and if I can get it set up ok with my HOTAS.

First 19 Minutes of Star Wars: Squadrons Campaign Gameplay:

Weak graphics, lack of physics, uninteresting dogfights, general feel of an arcade game. Most likely, I don’t buy this even on sale... (((

I had some hopes for this game, but alas ...

Indeed BlackSix, it is no sim, no IL-2 GB.

Because it turned out TrackIr will not be supported I initially thought of asking for a refund.

However ... the child (of 50 or so years ago) in me ... likes it !

Will keep it since it seems to exceed me very low expectations for this game.

I TRULY LOVE that I can set up my own (as well as coop) Fleet Battles ... that feature alone means more to me than the 35 euro I paid for it.

Never expected this to prove so rewarding and I have to congratulate the EA Devs for this.

Although not the SIM I love it is, to me, a true Arcade gem I am gratefull to have added to my collection.

But for now ... back to IL-2 !

I cannot understand the criticism. Clickable cockpits are not included and the absence of TrackIR is something I miss painfully (although I hope it will find its way into the game one way or another). Nevertheless I had a lot of fun with it the last 5+ hours and the micromanegement was much more than in Il-2, which made the battles in the singleplayer so far quite interesting. I haven't touched the multiplayer yet, but I will probably do that tomorrow. The HUD and the markers can also be switched off if you like, which makes it much more immersive. You can try it at EA Access (or whatever they call it) for 5$ to see if it works for you and if not, so be it.

Dunno whether clickable cockpits would be really usefull/truly needed in a fast-paced arcade-game like this. Might be interesting though.

Missing TrackIR is something I do not understand ... it again proves this is an Arcade game at its roots.

But there is nothing wrong with being an arcade game ... given the flight-sim-like nature of this it could even draw simmers into it and, more importantly IMHO also arcade-oriented-gamers getting more into sims !
