Woman pilots!

Recommended Posts

Hello, I've talked about women pilots in the past, and I'm beyond excited to see them in the game!! But this is apparently only to represent the night witches. Will it be possible to see more female pilots in the future? and for other nations? As a girl myself, the level of immersion would be increased GREATLY by being able to see a fellow lady in the cockpit!

I've seen a few people comment on how its not "realistic" but i think that line of thought is ridiculous, considering I'M flying the plane, and I'M a woman. so, to me, the pilot being a male is far less realistic in my specific situation. Plus, as any history buff would tell you, women pilots saw service in nearly every nation during the war.

(honestly I'd even pay money for female pilots as a stand-alone add on)

It’s true that most of the nations in the game (namely the USSR, USA, Britain, and Germany) recruited women as pilots, but the USSR were the only ones to assign them to combat duties.

That said, I can definitely see where you’re coming from when you say that your immersion would be increased by being able to have someone who’s the same gender as you in the cockpit, and in terms of multiplayer it would be less immersion breaking than being strafed by my own teammates right after spawning at their airbase...

Exactly! Plus, if you hear me on comms, you're obviously going to know I'm a girl immediately. And that voice coming from the stock male model seems... far less "historically accurate" to me than letting my sadly high pitched voice come from a woman.

Also, some of the most fun I ever had in any video game, was rise of flight. having an old-timey photo of myself on my profile, and my own little writeup, and seeing how far I could theoretically get through the great war was an experience that would be so, so much more fun to me with that tiny added level of immersion!

I would like to see this. I fly in Lily/Lidya Litvyak's Yak1 '44'  in the BoS campaigns. Perhaps some female pilots in the career creation page. Only Soviet of course..

How many females, apart from @Wikikimoto, play IL2?

Might encourage a few more to join us in this great sim

Moin!

One more woman pilot here.  I also hold an ATP and worked as an airline captain.  I was thrilled to see he U-2/Po-2 in game as well.  Also, yes, that is me in the profile photo in uniform with the actual aircraft.

Wiki, pleased to meet you. Good to see others in these skies.

TO be an ACCURATE usage of female pilots in game,  anyone flying a career of female pilot OUTSIDE SOVIET UNITS, would simply be flying in a non combat role.

I doubt any of you have bought the new microsoft flight simulator to have the fun of flying passenger planes, so i doubt the lure of being a ferry pilot would be more fun then say putting some ninja action on the stick of a FW190

I served with female pilots in the USAF.  See no reason why they should be excluded.

You dont quite get the program do you?

On a spot that seems dedicated to bickering about HISTORICAL accuracy, why the sudden urge to have fictional female pilots flying planes that they never flew IN COMBAT let alone a combat theatre?

Their is a huge difference between women in the US flying bombers or fighters 800 miles over america from factory to army airbase.. versus "hmmm im bored, why not create a fictional campaign for a female pilot to be flying a stuka or P51 D over eastern europe in 1944"

I don't fly 'combat' in Il2 all the time..sometimes I fly from Pt A to Pt B in all kinds of weather. Like a ferry flight.

But hey -you 'fly combat'...  Post your medals ROFLMAO!

If you want historical accuracy, for female pilots in europe, your stuck with the job of night witch for soviets. Thats IT....

Er nope

There were female Pe2 squadrons and famous female aces flew various marks of Yak's alongside many not so famous ones in combat

Cheers, Dakpilot

Yeah, 'historical accuracy' requires an actual knowledge of history...

Because some of the women who play this game would find it more immersive if they could play as a member of their own gender. This was explained in the first paragraph of the first post of this thread.

Or flying a Yak or Pe-2 in combat (and that’s only considering all-female regiments and the service of Litvyak and Budanova). Also, women drove T-34s and manned AA guns.

Why not have them? Is it really historically less fitting than almost all pilots looking exactly the same? Oh, yes, there are moustaches, right. What's the likelyhood of THAT happening compared to a woman being a pilot, even back then?

It's not like people are asking for Elves or Stormtroopers (oh no! another can of worms!)

You do realize that we have had a female pilot option for a few of the Yaks for a while now, right?
