Awards and Citations: Identifying Medals

Hey guys. I am wondering if on the Awards and Citations page the medals are supposed to be clickable so that you can see their names, and maybe when and why they were awarded. I assumed this was supposed to populate the open area under the medals. If not, I wonder how hard it would be to add this information @PatrickAWlson.

 

I realize this can be found in the Squadron Log, but since this fills up quickly, finding the titles of the medals is not easy.

Ok, no worries. I am no WW2 expert, so staring at the medals, I am scratching my head trying to remember what they are. Anyway, great work on the tool. Keep it up!

At the moment I do not store a citation with the medal.  It's a good idea.

Yeah, if the specific information in the squadron log could populate under the medals that would be a good way to remember the valor achieved.

FYI: medals were awarded differently.  Germans tended to award medals for consistent performance over time where allies tended to award them for individual acts. 

 

In fact it is not that simple.  The truth is that consistent performance over time would get you medals on the allied side.  The award would be tied to a specific act but when you read the citation you would think "but lots of people did that and didn't get ....".  PWCG models this by awarding you a medal if you already have n victories and you shoot down two or three more in a mission then you get the higher medal.

 

On the German side there was a lot of politics involved.  If you weren't among the favorites you don't get as many medals.  PWCG does not model this,

Interesting. For me. I just assumed I could sit back and look back over the medals to recall how they were earned. I am flying an RAF campaign, and I have no idea what the initial medals were called. Of course, this becomes a learning exercise, which is fine, thanks to Google.

Is it possible to add a tool tip for each medal image; that would help the learning process as after being awarded a medal a couple of times and looking up the info on-line for it, the player would steadily start to recognise them, especially with the help of hovering the mouse over them and seeing the tip?

Fyi I am currently modding the medals a bit, so they show the names as well as some other changes. I'll share it as part of my GUI mod when done. But its easy enough to add labels to the current ones if you have the inclination (if a little time consuming).
