I'm not sure based on your OP what it is that you are trying to do.  Generate missions that you can edit?  Generate different missions so you can fly them?  They are very different things.

 

Vander's mission generator will generate individual mission.  PWCG will generate missions in the context of a career.  You can use the QMB to create missions.  Lots of options.

Or career generation. I want to try both.

There is also the Career Mode in the game itself, which is quite good as well.

Right there toward the top of the dialogue box, it says "Choose Game Type" with buttons that say "Single Mission"  "Cooperative" and "Dogfight"

What is PWCG

 

PWCG was single player for about 9 years, until it was expanded to allow coop play.  The heart of it remains single player.  Link above with a write up on some of what it does, but the short version is that it is a full career mode.
