JG1_Vonrd Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 I've looked and haven't seen any Dead is Dead events posted. Is there anyone hosting such events? 1
[Warship]MidnightLightnin Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 I'm not sure what dead is dead is but is this of interest? 1
drivertwopoint0 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 I am planning too but i am still working on getting to the rules of such matches clear and understandable enough for an event as this to spark peoples interest. I am also hosting Co Op missions from time to time and was thinking of running a PWCG campaign start to finish wich would also be similar to dead is dead. I remeber Dead is Dead events beeing very popular and a lot of fun from my days in Post Scriptum, it adds another level to the gameplay and imersion.

In the context of events or tournaments, Dead-is-Dead (DiD) basically means that the each participating pilot has one virtual pilot life per night. You can always "fly next time" with no penalties. But for that specific night, dead-is-dead and captured-is-captured. Dead-is-dead events were very common in Red Baron 3D, IL-2 1946, and even IL-2 Cliffs of Dover. However, somewhere in the transition to IL-2 BoX, this style of play faded in popularity, with many being unaware of it's history within the greater community. Flanders In Flames, a WW1 event run by JG1 since 1999, is to my knowledge the only ongoing DiD event within IL-2 Great Battles. To quote the rules for Flanders In Flames: Quote If a player, acting as a pilot, dies or is captured during a mission night, that player will not be allowed to refly or reenter the server as a pilot for the rest of the session. The aircraft the pilot died or was captured in will be considered lost and will be subtracted from their team’s available total. The pilot is marked as killed-in-action (KIA) or captured (prisoner-of-war - POW). Players who have had their pilot killed or captured must either leave the server or switch to the role of a gunner. @JG1_Vonrd posted back in June looking for other WW2 events or WW2 squadrons that were interested in this style of play. The reason - JG1 has been actively working to bring dead-is-dead back to WW2. We've been testing IL-2 missions and prepping for a new tournament, which we hope will fill this gap. If anyone is interested, post below. It's never too early to start building, as we're going to move out of internal testing soon. 1
ITAF_LG965 Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 This will be dead as dead but it is already full of pilots, we hope there are others. 1
Sky_Wolf Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Friday Night Bomber Flights (FNBF) was a weekly dead-is-dead event that was perfect in my opinion, with mission planning, recon photos, etc. However it is now also dead. 1 2 1

If you do something like this again, definitely let us know. You can always PM me on the boards, or stop by our website: https://jg1.org/ Thanks! 4 hours ago, Sky_Wolf said: Friday Night Bomber Flights (FNBF) was a weekly dead-is-dead event that was perfect in my opinion, with mission planning, recon photos, etc. However it is now also dead. That's too bad. It looks like it was a lot of fun! Currently, JG1 is working on a WW2 dead-is-dead tournament. Similar to our Flanders In Flames. However, we're still in the testing phase of things. Getting all the bugs out is taking a bit of time, and we want to make sure that the product we announce to the community is top notch. Hopefully, I'll have more information soon! If any pilots or squadrons are interested in helping us out, definitely let me know. Edited December 11, 2020 by Stab/JG1_Klaiber 2
