Lusekofte Posted August 27 Posted August 27 (edited) The patience and space needed for such builds, and skills. You guys are far too modest. You do have skills Edited August 27 by Lusekofte 2 2
voncrapenhauser Posted August 28 Author Posted August 28 Ran out of likes....Great builds everyone. I should build something but life and ilness keep getting in the way. 2
Vishnu Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) A diorama I finished a few months back that I never got around to posting. All kits are Tamiya, with one figure being a Dragon figure. The tree, wooden crates, and sign are all scratch built. I apologize if it looks a little dusty. Edited August 29 by Vishnu 8 1
Vishnu Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) Here is another diorama, I recently finished. Once again most of the kits are Tamiya, with one Dragon kit and one MB kit. Tree, wall and shrubs etc are scratch built. Once again, I apologize if its a little dusty. I own cats!!! LOL!! Man, it is dusty!! LMAO!! A Hairy Panzer!! Edited August 29 by Vishnu 4
Vishnu Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Eduard kit La-7. Major Amet-Khan Sultan, 30 kills. Older kit. Had some challenges. 4
Vishnu Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Airfix kit. Hurricae Mk.1 Pilot Officer Ken William MacKenzie. 501 sqd RAF. Oct 7th 1940 destroyed a BF 109 by ramming it! 6
SARFlytitus Posted August 30 Posted August 30 GREAT ! Models and dioramas very nicely done! I like your weathering job on tanks and planes … and the wet muddy terrain is top notch ! 1 1
No_85_Gramps Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Mossie WIP. Our daughter popped in from Texas for a week long visit, so not much got done on the Mossie. Ready to mask and then to spray booth for primer. Airfix provided styrene parts for the wheel well masks, had not seen that before. Anyway, glued some sprue to those to keep it off the table while the paint dried, and a short piece of sprue white glued into the tail wheel housing. Plane is about 90% black so I just used black primer for the whole airframe. Give it a day to dry and then on to making for the top side camo. Also, lots of amazing work posted here recently! Those rigged ships would try my patience for sure! 6
SARFlytitus Posted September 3 Posted September 3 @No_85_Gramps WOW ! A Mossie !!! what scale is it , 1/72 ? wait, I'm going to dig through the hundreds of kits on my man cave hoping to find some to build in 1/48 scale. You might have given me a good suggestion for the near future (beyond the usual Bf 109 or P-something...)😉 ...And, in any case, it seems like your work is progressing excellently. I'll be following your WIP with great interest. (Excellent suggestion: the three "foot sprues" for painting work. I'll definitely use them too.) keep up the good work ! SARFlytitus 1 1
SARFlytitus Posted September 3 Posted September 3 (edited) My Man Cave... So many models to build or fly and so little time to devote to them... But is it true that all modelers, as they get older, become collectors of unbuilt kits and beautiful RC models now sadly destined to gather dust? What is your experience in this regard, fellow modelers? Edited September 3 by SARFlytitus 2 1
No_85_Gramps Posted September 3 Posted September 3 The Mossie is the 1/72d Airfix kit. I guess I have around a hundred kits laying around, some date back to the seventies. A few really old Aurora and Monogram kits in that bunch. 1
SARFlytitus Posted September 3 Posted September 3 mmmhhhhh....I've found only an Old Monogram Mossie in 1/48. I think I'll buy a newer Tamiya.🤣 1

No_85_Gramps Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Mossie update. Decided to mask the canopy so I can paint it at the same time as the camo up top. This will try my patience for sure. Took about 6 tries just for the nose. Sprayed the landing gear silver and will give it a black wash to tone it down a little. Tired/hubs were easy as the hubs are separate pieces. Might be time to rethink my choice of scale! 2 3
Vishnu Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Just harvested a huge supply of Teloxys aristata, or Sea Foam. Teloxys aristata is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Amaranthaceae. It is the sole species in genus Teloxys. It is an annual native to temperate Eurasia, ranging from European Russia to China and Korea. This plant is commonly used for plants and trees in dioramas, like the tree I made in the third picture. The small container shows the thousands of tiny seeds I got from this crop as well. This will keep me in foliage for a long time! 4
SARFlytitus Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I've been meaning to build the Accurate Miniatures P-51A for a long, long time, and I finally did. It was a pleasant build, and the mold holds up well over time. The only annoying things about this old kit are the canopy and the Curtiss Electric propeller, both of which are very rough and don't do justice to the quality of the rest of the sprues. They deserve a little extra work or the use of third-party accessories. @Vishnu The vegetation in your dioramas is beautiful...I'll have to practice with Teloxys aristata to improve the appearance of my vegetation. Great suggestion, thank you very much. 5 2
No_85_Gramps Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Mossie update. I primed with black and then took a few days to get the canopy masked. Last night got the plane masking done and then this morning shot the gray, and a couple of hours later the green. I reverted to using my scalpel to trim the canopy masking, I like the tip on it, and it's a little heavier than an xacto. Pleased with the canopy, needs a little touch-up and side windows added. I used my printer to enlarge the painting diagram and used it to cut masks out of tape. Time for some football (American style) tonight and tomorrow. 4 1
SARFlytitus Posted September 14 Posted September 14 @No_85_Gramps It looks like a nice job is coming out. Nice old-school work on the canopy mask. indeed a scalpel with a sharp, brand-new No. 11 blade can do wonders with the right amount of patience and swearing. keep up the good work 1 1
No_85_Gramps Posted September 15 Posted September 15 (edited) That seam on the nose was really getting to me. Used some putty and sanded, then re-sprayed the gray. Not perfect, but a lot better than before. Now for some gloss and decals. Edited September 15 by No_85_Gramps
SARFlytitus Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Friday i’ve Started my very First Eduard kit , a 1/48 F6F5N Hellcat . So far it Seems a very hassle-free model (let alone the allround glossy sea blue😂😂😂) Now I had a forced stop because yesterday morning I had an emergency abdominal surgery 🙄anyway I hope to be able to return to the work table as soon as possible… @No_85_Gramps Those pesky ghost seams are a real PITA for every modeler.😡 great work so far m8 , can’t wait to see your mossie completed…👍🏼 3

That cockpit looks fantastic. Have to laugh, my next build is a 1/72 F6F5. Always loved that plane, in overall glossy blue. 1
SARFlytitus Posted September 16 Posted September 16 @No_85_Gramps I admire you very much for your 1/72 works When I had good eyes and steady hands, 1/72 scale was my only choice, then too much water passed under the bridge and 1/48 scale became mandatory.. . in reality I would be much more comfortable with 1/24... but not owning a residence like the Royal Palace of Caserta or Buckingham Palace I would never be able to find room for a few hundred models...🤣🤣🤣 here some of my almost 40 Y.O.. kits in 1/72 Those were the good times... 9 1
ST_Catchov Posted Saturday at 11:19 PM Posted Saturday at 11:19 PM Good job on the nose seam Gramps! 👍 1 1
