Hoots Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Love the weathering! Brilliant work Gramps. This is my current project. Like some others it sat unworked on for a month or so as I had no enthusiasm, I’ve never really liked January and since losing my wife it’s got worse. Seem to be back into it now. Hull is mostly complete, masts and rigging next. 7 1

"The Saucy Jack was a well smack fishing boat built in Gravesend in 1836. Well smacks were a type of fishing boat that had a built-in tank of seawater to keep fish alive. The Saucy Jack was 60 feet long and weighed 51 tons. It was the last well smack to leave Barking in 1880. " 1 2

Thank you for the comments on the Lanchester! 3

voncrapenhauser Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 Great build gramps....Definitely different. On 1/25/2025 at 8:17 AM, Hoots said: It can be very restful. voncrapenhauser Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Early days for my next big scale car......any guesses? Think this one is a little obvious. Got three builds on the go atm ,so may be a while before we see this one again. apologies for the focus was in a hurry. 2 1
No_85_Gramps Posted February 7 Posted February 7 So, I dug this relic from around 1980 out, and decided it was time to get it finished. Plus, a change from the usual for me. Historex Hussard De La Mort (Death Head Hussar), will work in finishing the horse up first, then on to the rider. 3

voncrapenhauser Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 Built The complex base for another 1/4th scale figure to follow. 3
Hoots Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Pretty much finished and am quite happy with it. This is my fourth build and I can see an improvement in each one I've done. Or rather, there's less glaringly obvious and stupid mistakes in each one so far. This kit was also the best one I've bought, really good materials and plenty of them for when the small part inevitable pings across the room. Good instructions and plan sheets too. Vanguard Models if anyone fancies giving one a go. Excuse the quality of the photos, photography is not my strongpoint. Now waiting for my next one to arrive! 8 1
voncrapenhauser Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 1/4th scale Lady Blackhawk. Comic hero I think? Just liked the figure. 5 1

Oh yes, it worked. I always struggle with faces, especially with 1/35th figures. I have a 1/10 scale bust of Princess Elizabeth that I'll get to eventually, hoping I can improve on faces in that scale. 1

I watched a tutorial on face paiting on Sprueverse you tube chanel recently ....Thought would give a new method a try this time around. I think The smaller the scale The tougher it is tbh , my eye sights not The best these days , so choose to build big scale stuff and still use a magnifier lol. 2

The damn cancer has come to my house again, which has meant that I have to spend more time during the day taking care of both my mother and my stepfather who is affected. When things get better I'll be back here to share tricks and learn tricks from you too. Thank you very much for the time you've spent PS: Before I say goodbye temporarily, I'm going to share some of my work as a memory of my time here. I will also continue to fly online and live on my channel on the days that I can. My channel is Lothar29 Museum quality once again…but that’s not unusual for you! 2
BornToBattle Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Good Lord it’s been a very long time since I posted in here! Life gets busy. Anyways, I’ve made dozens of builds since posting in here. Since rediscovering the hobby after a 40+ year hiatus I’ve managed to complete 69 builds as of this writing in going on the 4 years of being back “into it”. F4F-4 Wildcat I finished not too long ago. It was my first serious attempt at building an aircraft model. I used the multilayer chipping technique on this one done in acrylics, pigments and oils. I used the new Shaders line too if I recall… 11
BornToBattle Posted March 10 Posted March 10 12 minutes ago, No_85_Gramps said: Weathering looks fantastic! Thanks Gramps! Ironically, being my first aircraft build in ages it was sort of a guinea pig for me, both in general build and in weathering for as you know I’m mostly prone to armor builds. I tried the multilayer chipping as I was looking for a bare metal/zinc chromate/top color approach. Upon finishing it I liked the way the layered chipping turned out but didn’t like the overall weathering. I thought it was overkill for what I was depicting (I like to do a lot of research with period photos). As luck would have it, it took Best World War Two Fighter award at our local model show here last February. 2
BornToBattle Posted March 10 Posted March 10 As they said in Monty Python…”And now for something completely different”…I made a whole slew of 1/350 submarine models. Just a quick assortment of the some two dozen or more as they’re kinda boring, sorta…done in acrylics and oils in an assortment of time frames from history. The French Surcouf is here along with the I-27 and her midget sub and seaplane along with the world’s largest submarine ever made, the Russian Typoon class. The 1/350 test my patience. Made my own bases from wood, National flag repressing the sub is included along with a working QR code for more info and a human shrunk to 1/350 scale near front of sub for comparison. 12

BornToBattle Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Old Tamiya Me262 kit in 1/48 I completed last year along with a V-1. The Tamiya V-1 was so bad enough with the lines being all wrong I ditched it and got an ancient MPM kit and added mods to it. The dolly I robbed from the Tamiya kit and added just a few extras. All acrylics with Alclad II being used on the Me262 for metal finish. Spoiler 11

BornToBattle Posted March 13 Posted March 13 (edited) To celebrate this thread’s continued success I’m posting up two build I completed last month. The first is the M109 Paladin. It’s an old 1983 Italeri kit taken over by Tamiya. I didn’t check this on Scalemates before I purchased it but upon looking over the kit I suspected it was an old tool kit and was right. Anyways, this ironically is what I was going to be crewed with upon trying to rejoin the Army after a stint with the Air Force, but failed my hearing test at that point. Oh well. Life goes on. I decided to have it in travel mode with barrel stowed as seen in Iraq in 2003. I also decided to leave off a bunch of stuff thus denying it of the gypsy caravan look. Acrylics, oils and VMS metal pigment. The other build is the US Marine Corp AAV-P7/A-1 amphibious assault vehicle by Tamiya, also in 1/35. Another older kit… Edited March 13 by BornToBattle 11

Here's my latest.....paint still drying lol. Round 2/Polar lights Galileo shuttle ...1/32nd scale. Great easy kit to assemble, only mistake I made was fitting an after market resin interior which made things way harder than I was hoping. Have another with The proper interior and figures to do. Thought I would do something different and personalize my model with my own decals showing USS Lexington's no.2 shuttle Athena as everyone and their dog has built this model on various forums as Galileo or Galileo II. Its also why I didn't bother with a build log as it's already done to death elsewhere. 7 1
voncrapenhauser Posted March 18 Author Posted March 18 (edited) Mad Max update. This pack was a little disappointing as only really 4 parts...... Big parts mind and is just more chassis. 20 mins later here it is. Edited March 18 by voncrapenhauser 3

voncrapenhauser Posted March 22 Author Posted March 22 (edited) 1.18th Scale De Agostini X Wing. Really cracking on with this one, two wings and cannons almost complete. I am re painting this model totally as provided parts are way to dark grey and should be white. At this time as you can see it is factory fresh which will not do and will be weathered when assembled. This model hopefully if I build correctly will have folding "S" foils lit engines as show in test picture, illuminated cockpit and firing cannons. Oh and a lit and rotating R2 unit all on a nifty remote control. Also I am adding a Paragraphics ,console and cockpit framing as The ones supplied make it look too much like a toy. Will be adding my own Pilot figure as not supplied in kit. Edited March 22 by voncrapenhauser 6
Ghost666 Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Decided my HOn3 train layout needed a warehouse. So I got some wood out and a knife. Cut each board individually, stained and assembled. Ok the doors and windows are castings. 7
