Hoots Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 Ok it's not plastic but I hope it's ok to post, feel free to move/delete if not. Been working on this off and on for ages and finally got it finished. There may have been some swearing with the rigging. 9 1 2
voncrapenhauser Posted October 26, 2024 Author Posted October 26, 2024 (edited) All build mediums welcome ,look back at previous posts. The"plastic" monika was not The original thread name. Ship looks fantastic Hoots ,great work. Edited October 26, 2024 by voncrapenhauser 1 1
voncrapenhauser Posted November 1, 2024 Author Posted November 1, 2024 Finished.......Cannot understand why the makers of these kits did not make the body in plastic as The real Alpines bodies were made from fiberglass, I need a reinforced shelf now. 10
XQ_Lothar29 Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Friends of modeling, I've been taking a break lately, which I hope doesn't last too long. The damn cancer has come to my house again, which has meant that I have to spend more time during the day taking care of both my mother and my stepfather who is affected. When things get better I'll be back here to share tricks and learn tricks from you too. Thank you very much for the time you've spent PS: Before I say goodbye temporarily, I'm going to share some of my work as a memory of my time here. I will also continue to fly online and live on my channel on the days that I can. My channel is Lothar29 12
voncrapenhauser Posted November 6, 2024 Author Posted November 6, 2024 Good luck lothar, of course The Health of you and your family always cmoes first. 3

I too recently went through a period of serious bereavement and am still struggling with health problems. I understand your situation very well and I wish you my most sincere best wishes that everything goes well. I hope to hear from you soon on the forum and, hermano, your modeling style, your amazing skill are the modeling goal I would like to be able to get closer to! Hold on brother! No_85_Gramps Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Finally got some time to start painting the Lanchester. I was busy with a Xmas project for my wife and daughter in my woodshop. Going to do this in the Belgium scheme, have always wanted to try one. Will use a thin micron pen to draw the black lines and then brush paint the other two colors. Have to see how my patience holds out moving forward. 5 1
No_85_Gramps Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Figured I would do the turret first so if I didn't like it, it would be easy to change the scheme. I model as a member of the "Good enough for me" club. I had a set of WWI German uniform colors so I used them. Other than having to go back and redo some of the black lines, looks pretty good to me. 5
voncrapenhauser Posted November 27, 2024 Author Posted November 27, 2024 Looks great to me also Gramps, looking forward to how this one finishes up. 1
No_85_Gramps Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Progress on the Lanchester. It was like doing a paint-by-numbers after drawing the black lines. Needs a little touch up in spots, but over all pretty happy so far. Have to add the radiator plate, I had forgot to prime it when I did the body. Probably do the suspension in steel, most of it won't be seen once the wheels are on. Now that I've completed the boss's xmas to do list, I'll have more time to work on the model. 7
No_85_Gramps Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 One last pic before the holidays kick in. I replaced the ditching planks with some .03 inch baltic birch wood and the bottom brown wood is a piece of .01 inch cigar wrapper. I'm going to use it on the rear storage area. I've had that cigar wrap for around 30 years or more, finally found a use for it. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! 6
No_85_Gramps Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Almost to the finish line. Realized I didn't have any oil/gas cans or tools for this era. Have to wait for them to arrive so I can finish this off. Probably will make some type of tarp to add, along with finishing up the weathering. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! 8 1

Now the fun starts ..... glazing The canopy, a few smaller inside pieces for The cockpit and weathering.....I am going to do a more subtle weathering unlike the filming models which are heavily weathered to show up on film but under close viewing look terrible. See what I mean.....Third and fourth pictures are of filming miniatures Very cool. I always thought the snowspeeder was just as cool as the X-Wing. The snowspeeder was a nimble sturmovik! 1 1
Vishnu Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Hey all, Happy New Year! I'm curious, have any of you gone through a building, photographing slump? I completed, what I think is a pretty good diorama in the fall, haven't taken pictures, completed an Airfix Hurricane in the late fall and haven't taken pictures. I also started a new diorama, and stopped at the end of November. I know the Christmas season is busy and all that, I even got some great modelling tools like paint etc, BUT, I have totally lost interest, and have no desire to build anything at the moment. I've been logging lots of time in BOX, but haven't touched a thing since November. Have you guys been through slumps before? If so, how long? What caused it? What got you back at the bench? Vish 1
RedeyeStorm Posted January 4 Posted January 4 I stopped building when I went to collage at 18. Started playing Warhammer at 32 and loved the building and painting more than playing. Since Covid I stopped with Warhammer (several reasons) and switched back to model building. Bought 3D resin printer and aiming to build all Star Wars star fighters in 1:34. Working on the Y-Wing at the moment. Real Life is interfering right now unfortunately. 1 1

I've been modeling off and on for around 60 years, yeah, I'm that old. Over the years there have been slumps ranging from, a few months, to a few years. Sometimes life gets in the way, you discover other hobbies or pursuits, or you just lose interest. Two things got me over my last slump. One, the new acrylic paints that have come on the market, and two, my desire to build a submarine model for my close friend and neighbor. I discovered that he had been a submariner in the early 70's, I managed to locate a model of that sub and built it, mounted it, and made a cover for it. The joy on his face when I presented it to him was amazing. I then decided to build 2 fast frigates, one for my son, and one for my son-in-law, who served together on that ship. That was what renewed my interest in modeling and, although I have slowed down some over the years, it's still fun and relaxing. 4 1
voncrapenhauser Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Wow Gramps, you got me beat. I have only been a modeler for on and off around 55 years ish. You summed me up too, life and other hobbies got in The way but I allways come back to modeling. When im in a slump I try a different type of model to reignite my love of building something different. On 12/31/2024 at 4:31 PM, CzechTexan said: Very cool. CzechTexan Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Way back before we had computers and WWII simulators like IL-2, I could only read about the war in books or magazines OR build models to fuel my curiosity and imagination. Later, when IL-2 Sturmovik came along, I stopped building models because now I could simulate WWII on a computer. Now, the internet is full of information and WWII sims that I could never dream of in my younger days. I'm glad there are other modelers that have not stopped creating works of art. 4 1 2
No_85_Gramps Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Getting ready to finish up the Lanchester. A pic with some accessories for the build. The chain is from the model railroad side of things. The other numbered items are from a piece of embroidery thread (my wife is an avid needlepoint person). It comes with 6 strands which can be separated to make ropes and cables. A little thinned white glue makes them pliable, and you can form them to any shape. 3 1

Trooper117 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I have a Tamiya 1/35 Willy's Jeep and crew, plus an M3 Halftrack and crew from the 70's that are still in the boxes... I joined the army in 1972 and never got around to making them... 2
No_85_Gramps Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I built this in 1978, sole survivor from that era, and it needs a good cleaning. I have a few really old kits from the 60's, Monogram and Aurora kits. I guess I have at least a hundred or so unbuilt kits. It's great to see one of the old ESCI kits here. 4
No_85_Gramps Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Finally finished with the Lanchester. Now, what next? 7
