Feathered_IV Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 Making a little progress (no pun intended). Sorry the photos are a bit rubbish. It has been a fairly overcast day and I've got the phone camera zoomed in about as far as it will go.... 3
sallee Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 I thought that an electron microscope would be standard kit for you, Feathered. It looks amazing, but from a safety point of view, I thought it looked better when the engine was stuck to the other end of the match. 1
voncrapenhauser Posted February 12, 2018 Author Posted February 12, 2018 (edited) Got some new E Type parts, so assembly of front end space frame almost complete. Floor pan comes in two very large chunks, think I will paint them as they look too plastic, should be under sealed steel apperance. Rear axle and brake assemblies also. Buglord Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I reckon Feathered has some Nanobots stashed somewhere... 3
sallee Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Looking good, von c. This is going to be a slow burn.....
Feathered_IV Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I thought that an electron microscope would be standard kit for you, Feathered. I wish! One of the craftspeople that I greatly esteem uses one to amazing effect. If you've got twenty minutes or so, I highly recommend having a look at this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGMj7o6AwnM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM0VnL30rDc 1
Pail Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 So Feathered....are you going to do your Fe2b as an Australian one ? Just curious because our local museum spent something like $600 dollars or more on an Fe2b model ....I expect it may not have been built even....but i should check sometime.
Feathered_IV Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Hmm, I'm not sure yet. There's very few available photographs considering 4000 or so were built, and the difficulties of sourcing decals in 1/144 need to be considered. I'm still looking for an achievable scheme that would work for a mid-production machine.
Pail Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I reckon there might be some pictures of Australian ones in http://shop.simonlewis.com/the-magic-of-a-name--rolls-royce-3-volume-set-15798-p.asp the silver one (i guess that is the first vol it was in the edition i had)..... I gave it to my dad so he would look after my dog but he killed it.... from here not the book http://www.theaerodrome.com/aircraft/gbritain/raf_fe2.php As i mentioned elsewhere my town bought 2 in World War One... http://kapundalink.blogspot.com.au/2017/03/haig-war-tank.html I'll keep an eye out for pictures if you want. * Look I'm not sure why you wish to hear about my dad all the time but just stop it. Also there is this if you wanted to get specifically SA http://www.saam.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/SAAM-Book-complete-digital-for-website-with-disclaimer.pdf 1 1
Feathered_IV Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Wow Kapunda, small world. I have an elder sister and my brother-in-law there. Sounds like our respective fathers would have gotten on well. Very sorry to hear about your dog though.
Pail Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 (edited) Yeah I hadn't had it long but it cost the guy who gave it to me $900 so a kind of special red kelpie (and it belonged to his kid whose mother was murdered by some other guy....) I just felt maybe I should explain the most recent reason for why I might refer to the old man as an idiot....but nevermind. ....and it wasn't so much "gave it to me" as telling me if i didn't take it he would shoot it......you gotta love the cunnery. Makes me wonder how Hagya Katsuhira himself created it. Without a microscope and spectacles like Ford Hallam uses. The works of Japanese craftsmen never fail to amaze me. The craftmanship, refinement and dedication that goes into their works is unsurpassed. Be it wood carving, ivory carving or silk embroidery. I personally am very interested in Japanese woodblock printing. (And I am the lucky owner of a few Hokusai manga books and ukiyo-e prints by Utamaro and Kuniyoshi by the way. ) 1
sallee Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I did watch it, Feathered. Quite humbling. Amazing what some humans are capable of. I imagine he could knock up a passable Fee if he put his mind to it! 1
STN Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 A bit quiet here lately. All right, let´s stir things up a bit 3 1 5

voncrapenhauser Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Nice one there STN. Lozenge pattern looks great. E type Rear axle assembly married with floor pan. 1 3
voncrapenhauser Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Found a few Fe 2 schemes. Hope they can help.
Feathered_IV Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Wow, thanks! The Trafford-Jones style undercarriage is the one I'm going for. So any options with that are very welcome.
Buglord Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Beautiful work STN.. Hows the ticker Von? Will that be remote control ? My house move has stalled at the moment so iv`e started on a ki84
No_85_Gramps Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 So after a long period of inactivity on the model front, and with the inspiration found in this thread, and a visit to the local IPMS show a couple of weeks ago, I finally started up again. First thing was to organize my workbench. I used some scrap lumber from my woodworking projects and came up with this, before I just had everything piled in those white trays, makes a big difference. Next up is the current model I am working on. 1/35th Lanchester WWI Armored car. Not a bad little kit and with a single color scheme much to my liking (Painting is the one area that tends to stall my builds). I follow-up with more pics when completed. And lastly, just for fun, the oldest model that survives in my collection. This was built in 1978/79 when Testors was boxing and selling Italeri kits. This kit has survived five moves overseas and back to the states again. 2 3
sallee Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 A real beauty, STN. Coming along nicely, Von C! Nice organisation, Gramps. That Lanchester should be fun.
STN Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Thanks guys. Time to move on. My first floatplane. Will probably build it with close to none patina. 3
No_85_Gramps Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 That looks like an interesting build STN. Keep us updated.
voncrapenhauser Posted March 13, 2018 Author Posted March 13, 2018 (edited) Ticker is still ticking Bug thanks, ribs and sternum still reminding me they were pushed to one side to do the business with the heart and the wounds still stretching can be a pain....... literally. But things could be worse I suppose. The E type has working lights and engine noise like so many of De Agostini's kits but sadly no R/C. E Type stalled until next parts arrive. Lanchester looking good too, mmmmm rivets. Edited March 13, 2018 by voncrapenhauser Added content 1
voncrapenhauser Posted March 13, 2018 Author Posted March 13, 2018 (edited) Is this what you mean by Trafford-Jones style undercarriage Feathered buddy? I am no expert. Edited March 13, 2018 by voncrapenhauser 1
Winglesschip209 Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 (edited) I was not aware people plauyed this game and also built scale models how cool and ironic i do too ill post a picture of my 1/48 scale spitfire i built last week it was painted with brushes only because my airbrush and compressor was on the way but its been about 15 years since i built a model so its kind of rough.Ill post some of my p-51b 1/32 scale almost done On 12/18/2014 at 4:04 AM, voncrapenhauser said: Here's 1/24th scale ME109 G2 Trop "Black six" I finished a few weeks ago. Ah no, I'm not sure what those ones are called. The Trafford-Jones version is this one with the diagonal cross brace. It looks quite pretty to my eyes.

STN Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Interior done. Although I am really not sure about the colour. Followed the instructions but it seems the red colour is quite off. 2
No_85_Gramps Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 That's so they don't see their blood when they get shot... Does seem a little bit off, but you never know. Detailing and painting look great! My projects always seem to stall when it's time for the airbrush. I have a King Tiger that has been waiting for about 8 months or so, along with the Lanchester that is ready for painting. I figured that if I have more that one project to paint I can work them at the same time. With that thought in mind, I have a 3rd project, just starting construction, and will do all three during one airbrush session. The added project is this Gaz AAA vehicle:
WIS-Redcoat Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Wow guys, I haven’t made a model kit in years, merely painting miniatures. Who are making the best kits these days?
