Downloading files from server

whenever i try to join a server, it gives me the downloading files from server, and that's normal. however the download doesn't finish it just keeps saying downloading files from server.

and if i press cancel the game crashes

it's not a windows firewall problem i checked and this happens on ALL the servers not just one

This happens to me once in a wile, but actually not on all servers. Depending on how frequently you play MP, so if you didn't access those MP server for quite some time,

then it may happen that some existing file (from earlier downloads) get messed with new once.

 

Tip for you: Go into your game's "data" folder and just delete the content of your "multiplayer" folder. This will allow your game to download the files from the MP server

again. No worry - you won't break anything with this procedure.

P.S.: Btw. if you play on more complex MP server like TAW, Finish, Combat Box, Kota etc. the download sometimes takes a considerable wile, so don't panic!

i did try that, the issue still persists, also i forgot to mention, i just installed the game, so this is my first attempt on connecting to multiplayer,

should i try again and restart the game?

What do you mean with "restart"? Just restart the game - OK. Reinstall? No, this won't help much.

Maybe also try to start/launch your game without the launcher. Try to start your game directly from
the game's executable, which you will find in your game's "bin/game" folder. Look for the "Il-2.exe" and
create a shortcut for your desktop.

 

Only use the launcher to update your game. To actually start the game just use the "Il-2.exe".

 

Btw. - have you checked the rights you have for your game's directory? Sometimes there is an issue

where Windows doesn't properly set the access rights, especially when things are installed in the
"program files" folder.

Well, then it's absolutely clear - read only means you can't write in this directory nor can you make any changes (settings etc.).

Change this attribute - uncheck read-only - and you're done. Just simple as that.

 

For the next time I urge you to install games in a different directory like f.ex. C:\MyGames or something like that. You can actually

create a directory like this and drag & drop your whole game into that new directory. There are no registries done by the installation

itself, so you're on the safe side. Just don't forget to redo the shortcut for your desktop.

the game was lagging heavily when selecting a team, so i decided to exit and reconnect, but instead it crashed, and when i try again ,it gives me the same error

i think it the read only, however when i try to change that, it just reverts back to read only

No - if you changed the attribute from read-only to write, the game will not change it back to read-only - not possible.

 

Can you post the following:

 

- System information like type of CPU, GPU, RAM etc. and internet connection up- and download

- Screenshots of your game's graphic settings

- A copy of your "startup.cfg" file which you will find in your game's directory. And while you're at it, make sure this

  file is also not set to read-only.

Anyways - I think your system might be a little bit short of breath for VR. Especially when looking at your configuration file and the amount you

have in RAM and your graphic card's VRAM.

OK - now, that's sounds better, much better!

 

1. Get rid of the following settings:

 

 

RED Arrows = bad for your system, because you have only 8 GB of RAM and only 4 GB of VRAM.

- So first, disable "Enable VR HMD" as you don't fly in VR (this option IS only for VR)

- HDR/SSAO - get rid of this because it's a FPS punishment for your system.

- Horizon draw distance - lower it to 70 or 100 km. This also has an impact on the performance of your game.

- Antialiasing - lower it to 2. Helps performance and still looks good.

GREEN Arrows = positive options for the game

- Sharpen - activate this because it will help you spot anything in the skies

- Landscape filter - change this to "blurred", this will also help spotting anything. The option Off/Sharp/Blurred are not FPS relevant. So it's up to your gusto.

 

2. Your configuration file has some values you can modify.

Set the value to 0 because this will also slow your game.

Change the red values to 4096 and the blue values to 2048 - don't touch the rest.

 

I hope, this will help you running the game smooth and stable. You have to keep in mind that your 8 GB RAM can quickly get fully used, depending

on which MP server you are - f.ex. servers like Combat Box or TAW have a lot of things going on the map (ground forces etc.) plus it is very often
well populated.

1000 was low, because more and more skins are done in 4K and you have selected the option to show your custom skins when online.

And data traffic on MP is higher depending on the server your flying on.

Yes, you have to try. But as I already mentioned 150 km draw distance is silly, better change it to 100 km at least, if you don't want to go below that.

 

Btw. your monitor - does it run at 60hz? If so, you better keep the frames at 60. But finally it's up to you.

the firewall is ok, il 2 is allowed, the only 2 anti-malware programs i have are malwarebytes (which i don't think has a firewall) and windows defender (where i made sure il-2 was allowed on both public and home networks)

OK - windows defender isn't the problem, I run that too and never had any trouble. But I know that Malwarebytes sometimes

can cause some trouble (false positive), although this is a good software, no question about that.

So, have you tried to "pause" Malwarebytes and run the game in MP? Have it a go, so we can see if your malware protection

is the source of trouble.

i don't think i can pause it since i don't have premium and so the only thing i have access to are scans, not realtime protection or anything of the like, and i haven't run a scan since i installed il-2
