Killer Whale Color

Hi, all.

I'm wrapping up some Jasta 12 skins and I'm wondering what color seems correct for Viktor Schobinger's (Shamu-like) artwork on his Dvs. I've seen more support for his fuselage ovals being light blue, but the lineup photograph certainly looks like they could have been white. I'm also pretty sure his spars and wheel covers were painted in a bright color, most likely the same as the ovals. The original RoF skins showed a light, light blue, so that was my initial direction. However, I can't help wonder if these were actually white. Please let me know what you all think. Cheers!

For reference, here are two different versions of my skins shown in black and white. The first one being light blue artwork, spars, and wheels. The second one using white.

Look at the spinner in the photo. It looks the same colour as the patch on the side. I think it's white. I know light blue shows up as very white on orthochromatic film but this looks white to me.

I totally agree @Adam, but I’m always careful to go against the grain of years of other people’s perceptions and research. You know the day I make it white is the day someone finds an old text from a combat report referring to his “light-blue streaked Dv”. It’s so frustrating sometimes. Usually I can find these arguments between Greg VanWyngarden, Dan-San Abbott and others having already played out in the Aerodrome forum, but no such luck this time.

YES I know! I usually end up reading as much as can then going with common sense in the end. If there's no specific information, I examine stuff myself and base my decision on that.

BTW, that white looks slightly whiter than the cross white

The same question applies to the “XX” marked plane with the white(?) fuselage, the third plane in the lineup. I’m definitely leaning towards white artwork for all 3 Dvs in the lineup foreground. Speak now or forever hold your peace! S!

Hello. VERY late to this conversation, forgive me, but the color was light blue, not white. Researcher Bruno Schmäling knew Schobinger. At Schobinger's home in 1976, Bruno had Schobinger [who was still, at 83, "an active man" with an "excellent memory" and "a very beautiful collection of photos and documents"] sit down and prepare drawings of his Albatros "according to his [Schobinger's] photos and personal descriptions." These drawings show light blue markings. So, straight from the horse's mouth.

I think I'll add the blue version, but keep the white as an option, probably when I upload all my stuff to Haluter's Downloader. I appreciate the feedback!
