A Random Works Campaign for the P-51D in a Tactical Air Doctrine Role

Fly alongside Lt. Childress with the 356th FG as USAAF and RAF aircraft engage Axis assets in the air and on the ground. An eight mission non-historical campaign which offers the player an immersive experience in the P-51 as a multi-role fighter within the Western European Theater of Operations during the summer and autumn of 1944 to March 1945.

The Campaign utilizes the Rearm/Refuel function for home and forward bases to allow for several different scenarios and 2 to 4 sorties per mission should the player decide to fly them.

The missions, which include taxi, take-offs and form-ups along with air-starts can run anywhere from twenty minutes to over one and a half hours depending upon players actions and feature CCG_Pips excellent 356th FG Skin Packs.

Excellent news, will try it out tomorrow :)

The idea of rearming and doing missions by choice sounds very interesting and promising.

I have uploaded the campaign to Content Downloader if anyone is interested.

The Download separated into two - Campaign and the Skins which can be found in the Skins category.

Awesome campaign so far, congratulations!

I just flew the first mission.

Very well made start+taxi, nice ambience units on airfield

Met the b-25 to escort, then got bounced by some bf109, shot down 2 then made a glorious accidental ramming attack bringing down the 3rd bf10920200502231137_1.thumb.jpg.e170fe54dd3d56db81c748b78a154d12.jpg

=> had to bail out over enemy lines & got captured ?

Great campaign so far, will try again tomorrow!

Looking forward to finishing the first mission (hopefully) and trying the other ones (I am especially exited about the ream/refuel as I never did this before)

Thanks again

Thanks for this Campaign. Never tried to refuel and rearm. Questions : once landed how to find out the place to refuel and rearm. I taxied towards a wooden tower with fuel truck and stocks of bombs stayings close. I turned the engine then closed canopy and press RCtrl +A and RCtrl+F but Nothing happened. I guess I was at the wrong place...any help? Thanks

Azdack,

It may be that you entered wrong location or that the location was not able to preform the Rearming, Refueling function at that time due to various situations within the mission.

In which mission and airbase did this occur?

In any event my mistake on this as I should of made the locations and procedures clearer within the ReadMe. You would of had a visible message from the game that you had entered the Rearm/Refuel radius and to shut your engine down.

The default keys are:

  • RCtrl+A - Rearm
  • RCtrl+F - Refuel

*If you want to change these, go to settings--->key bindings--->plane engine controls or weapon controls tab (scroll to the bottom) to change key binding to desired key.

Here are pics for each of the Rearm/Refuel Locations within the Campaign.

Thanks for your answer Tip. It was mission one. We took off at St. Trond (fuel about 60% if I remember). I Followed my leader, joined the bombers to protect. Attaked by 109 we received the order to drop bombs before engaging the enemies. Got two of them and flew back to St Trond to refuel and rearm but as soon as I landed I taxied to the wrong place as your picture shows...I'll try again this afternoon. Further more questions. Beside I had two victories the mission was failed once landed. What are the conditions to have a successful mission due to the fact the player can refuel an rearm and take off again? Then the player will be on his own after having refueled and rearmed..How to join again the AI leader and wingman if there are still alife...Anyway thanks again for your campaign i'm looking forward to find again later in the afternoon.

Azdack,

You bet. The St. Trond airbase is set up as an emergency strip for the campaign. In Mission 1 your group takes off from the Home Base at Le Culot. So following the sortie, or multiple sorties dependent upon what you wish to do, the player needs to return and land at Le Culot.

A way to gauge whether you have reached the Primary Objective or Mission Accomplished before you set out on secondary sorties is to take a glance at the Map. A Primary Objective Icon will be shown to the NW of your home base. In "general" Mission Accomplished will be with at least 2 secondary objectives being met along with Take-Off or Spawning and a Landing at your Home Base.

Correct.  On the rearm/refuel sorties your are on your own to fly alongside. To reacquire your original flight automatically during the mission. It's possible that they will be engaged, at the egress rally point, RTB'ing or already landed. You would of needed to check <Autopilot> within the Realism: Custom settings when you first set up and launched the campaign.

So great Tip Thanks! Back to mission one. Bombers covered but couldn't get any bandit on that round. Back to Le Culot where I could refuel and rearm then take off again to join some P51 heading to Geek for a ground attack but….I hit the floor. Pity! Will be better next time. Thanks for your Campaign. That tool to refuel and rearm is really fun.

I fly mostly Luftwaffe aircraft but I have to say I really enjoy this scripted campaign the p-51's are beautiful in VR.I am having a problem however: even though I get entirely through the first mission, bag a couple of Huns & return safely to base ,I don't  get credit for a successful mission .What have I missed or neglected?

Thanks again for your work on this!

Excellent. Glad you are enjoying the campaign. I figured it'd look pretty good in VR.

With regards to mission one you might not have missed nor neglected anything. The mission has two different scenarios after taking off with the group. It may be that the required 2 Mission Objectives were not met. Which is entirely possible with one of the scenarios.

A way to gauge whether you have reached the Primary Objective or Mission Accomplished before you set out on secondary sorties or during the first one after landing is to take a glance at the Map. A Primary Objective Icon Bullet Point will be shown to the NW of your home base along with the Objective Icons throughout the map itself.

Mission One is Accomplished with at least 2 secondary objectives being met which, depending upon the scenario, may require using the Rearm/Refuel Function at Le Culot or the St. Trond emergency strip along with a Take-Off and a Landing at your Home Base. (Le Culot)

Just to rehash, and for other players sake reading this. For Mission One:

The Take-off from Le Culot is secondary Objective 2.

The Landing at Le Culot following a required amount of time or certain actions fulfilled by the AI is secondary Objective 10.

The other 2 required mission success Objectives number 3 through 9 and may be fulfilled by AI or the player depending upon what the players actions are.

Thanks for the post.

What's New?

Lullaby for a Dream now includes updates and housekeeping fixes plus 2 new missions.

New One Drive Download Link is in the OP:

To Install for Campaign Play:
1)    *Download the "Lullaby Dream" Zip and extract the enclosed "data" folder to your C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad folder or wherever/however you have your pc set up to play BoX.

*Be advised you will need to allow the overwrite of certain folders to correctly install the Lullaby for a Dream campaign and associated P-51D15 skins.

**Mission 6 adjusts the Daytime.cfg within the Data folder of the players game.
This in no way alters the time for sunrise or sunset from a players point of view but allows spotlights and land-lights to function earlier or later than default.

2) Please review the Enclosed ReadMe for RRR Locations/Pics and other pertinent details.

***Edit.

If you are already playing the campaign. Downloading and installing the updates and new missions will not effect your progress.

Enjoy the Campaign,

Not able to get in there and correct the name within the zip atm. However the .cgf and mission files and skins should of gone into the correct folders.

At least they did for me when I tested the download.

If they don't for other folks then give a heads up please.

The readme is now a Word doc yes. I see in your OP you've been able to open it.

The additions to the original Readme .txt doc are the RRR pictures and some more details on the .cgf file change.

Here are the RRR Locations and Pics for folks that may have problems with the word doc.

jorgesoo,

Not sure which .ini files you are referring to.

The "data" folder which contains the .cfg file, the campaign folder and the graphics folder needs to be extracted into your main C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad folder or wherever/however you have your pc set up to play BoX.
*Be advised you will need to allow the overwrite of those folders and the .cfg file to correctly install the Lullaby for a Dream campaign and associated P-51D15 skins.

As mentioned earlier I really liked this campaign...I even like motoring around the airfields looking for gas...but I do have a question regarding the 4th mission: at two points ( 30km & 17 km from target/action marker,) 3  Long nosed Fw-190D come hurtling out of the high overcast on fire and out of control. I’m not sure why..perhaps they were put there to ambush our flight, but obviously something went very badly wrong...

This happened each time I repeated the mission...

Possibly what the 190 AI pilots p-brains registered a split second before their aircraft exploded. :)

They do make you take notice though. Most probably ran afoul of other units high above. Your squads not the only one on the prowl.

Glad you are enjoying the campaign.

#5 is quite a wonderful bru-ha-ha and  like Groundhog Day I was able to (had to) re-fly over & over...dying over & over in flames, crash landing a damaged Mustang over & over, not finding the re-arming  site & crashing into vehicles & /or buildings. I finally made it back to earth with 4 kills! You know I’m going to kind of miss #5, but not enough to try to do it again for quite a while....?

Aaargh in mission 1 CTD after I landed at St Trond and rearmed

Playing again to reproduce

I was really enjoying this campaign so far

And for some reason the RRR facility at Le Culot doesn't work, it never says you're in the service area so I flew to St Trond and it wouldn't rearm either....bug?

edit: Finished mission 1, all Resupply worked, this was a lot like a round of golf, great fun, wonderful variety, this is what all Campaigns should aspire too

Thank you for the comments Blitzen and WM_KMS, that's a very high compliment indeed. Much Appreciated.

@WM_KMS after reading your comment on the CTD I flew Mission 1 making sure to visit the RRRs at Le Culot and St. Trond after they were activated so both their RRR sorties were going off at once along with what was already going on. Definitely heavy but perhaps a glitch or something which caused the CTD. Unknown.

Thanks for the heads up. Glad you are enjoying the campaign.

Tip

I finished the Campaign with no recurring CTD, I did have trouble at the Asch RRR site twice, when I taxied there the music didn't play and it wouldn't reload anything so it wasn't active, I waited a while and suddenly it became active and reloaded me but afterwards I couldn't move, my throttle would go to 75-100% for just a half second and drop back to 0, plane would barely move, brakes were off. I despawned and got a mission success. I had no troubles at Venlo and Le Culot. Probably a game bug but thought you'd like to know in case someone else gets stuck.

What a great campaign, lots of kills thanks to the resupply facilities.

Tip,

Enjoying your campaign; however I experienced the same issue that WM-KMS described above, i.e., after RRR completed l couldn’t get my throttle to work correctly and join the flight.  Any ideas?  Also noted, I appeared to arrive early at the RRR site at Asch.  I thought I had gone to the wrong site so I restarted and taxied around but returned to the initial site as I received a message to RTB and reload and refuel after which I was able to rearm and refuel, but was unable to take off as described above.  Nevertheless GREAT campaign!

It would appear that after they introduced, (corrected) spawnable RRR objects in v.4.007 (?) a new issue, or perhaps an old issue with the RRR function was created or again resurfaced with regards to the throttle settings problem. I haven't ever had this happen so add that it is also intermittent in nature.

I think a workaround for players to circumvent this type of thing happening would be to hang tight out of the 75m radius of the RRR GMC Truck if landing before given visible orders to RTB and Rearm and then when it becomes active (visible) enter as usual.

Appreciate the feed back and glad you are enjoying the campaign.
